This is a bit of a blooper post. A lesson in How not to dress when you are nearly 60. What was I thinking? This Wolford body is the “sister” of my black and white body. In the shop my husband and I had different opinions: he said: “buy the black and white one” and I argued that the blue and black one would make a change to my wardrobe. In the end he bought the black and white one for me and I paid for the blue/black. (I know…. decadent.) Needless to say he was right. Again.
What is the difficulty with this piece? Well…. it is too tight. Not in the sense it is hurting but in the sense it is greatly exaggerating lumps and bumps. Including my two biggest lumps: my bosom.
I wear my black and white body with something on top like a green silk blouse, because just B&W is “bad” near my skin. I am used to playing this trick.
With the blue and black body I had the delusion I could wear it without a jacket or a blouse. As the darker colours would hide the lumps and bumps. Yeah..right… until you lean over or sit down. Then the road going down is bumpy. Unfortunately I already deleted the worst pictures which showed me looking like a sausage. Or should I say : very hilly with two mountains dominating the landscape.
To make matters worse, I got very cold being photographed outside with temperatures near freezing point. Which showed. And you don’t want that.
Photos by Alexandra.
Below: the pearl necklace with lapis lazuli balls you have seen before in summer with my blue Kenzo jacket.Below: trying it without the pearls and with a yellow belt. To add an extra colour, which is always a difficult thing for me. It is alright but not really fantastic (my husband doesn’t like the belt with this skirt at all, but hey.. he cannot see anything wrong with showing lumps and bumps, so his opinion doesn’t count this time…).
The skirt is by Filippa K. The great belt is by Theory and I have worn it with my black and white Spring jacket and with my white sleeveles summer dress. Below: boots by Hugo Boss.
Below: the next photos show a tiny bit of the lumps and bumps, but believe me it was much, much worse in reality.
Below: for a laugh….
Perhaps it is just as well I deleted the worst pictures. I might have put them in this post and you never know where they will show up.
Now for something totally different… below: me with a hat. This hat is thrifted during a fun shopping tour searching for thrift shops in Haarlemmerstraat (Amsterdam). Coming up next week.
Are you kidding me? You look maj (as Rachel Zoe would say). I love the top and didn’t think your bumps were staring me in the face. The entire outfit is great. I love the skirt!
Now there is an expression I never heard of… maj… Have to look that one up. Thanks for the compliments. I will show you the deleted photos one day. LOL
You always have a funny way to comment your photos, and that is one of the reasons why I love your blog! I don’t find your today’s outfit so bad! I like the A line of your skirt, and think it is fine on you! Just try to imagine it with a slim fit shirt and some necklaces worn together…
Do you believe me if I say that you are very nice in these photos?
Perhaps it is not your actual style, and that could be why you see it bad!
You are right, it is not my style (anymore) but it is also because I deleted the bad pictures and then made a post about it. Not very clever if you want to make a point.
I agree with the commenters above! You look fabulous in this body conscious top. And as you know, I am a fan of your boots/shoes displayed on the white steps (similar to your ladder).
I absolutely love your thrifted hat. It looks like it was made for you and you wear it with self confidence. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack!
Thank you Judith, but I will not wear it like this. I put in a pinch of humor in my texts, but I am grateful for my figure, most of all , of course, because it is a healthy body.
As for hats..these bonnets are only the first step on my path of hat wear. LOL
I have to agree with the others here – you look great and I never would have been aware of your “lumps and bumps” if you hadn’t mentioned them yourself 🙂 We all have them, that is, perhaps unless you’re a 20-year-old photoshopped model and they’re not real anyway 😉
I will definitely get the deleted photos back and publish at least one. Just to show you I am not seeing things. LOL
But I agree it would be unreal to think those lumps and bumps are not there at my age. I just don’t want to emphasize them.
I have my ‘fat’ days where I would avoid anything clingy 😉 I love this look.. everything about it – the boots (TDF!) the skirt (another TDF!) and love the incorporation of yellow belt.. tiny yet makes a lot of difference!

I am surprised. I think this is rather a secretary look, but apparently it is much loved. Never thought this to happen. The belt is a good buy. I have it in yellow and black. Expensive but very good investments.
As for “fat”… now that I grow older I really get a stomach. In some outfits you don’t notice it at all and in others…. Oh well… cannot be helped (just hidden haha).
You do make me laugh Greetje! You look great as always! You have a great figure and the stripes disguise any bad bits. I am envious of the cold ‘bumps’ as I only have one now! I love the hat!!
I thought about you and Marianne the day after I published the post. And said to myself: “that is rather painful what you just did Greetje. You did not think this one through”. Too late. I apologise if I hurt you. I know I should not be complaining about it but celebrate.
When I started the post I was thinking mainly about the roles of loose skin and fat on stomach and belly. The rest sort of sneaked in.
Please don’t apologise! I don’t even think about it and will soon be having my first ever tattoo! Not embarrassing when it’s cold!
I hope they do a nice job.
well.. I like a lot! I think you are lovely in these photos and with this look!

You are very kind. So far I cannot show the aweful photos. Haven’t gotten them yet from the photographer. You might think otherwise when you see those. But you are very kind. Thank you.
As long as you have your lumps and bumps in the right place like you have, I see no problem:) Very stylish combi that looks absolutely fabulous on you. Love the skirt and necklace and shirt, so I guess I love it all.
Unfortunately they are at some other places as well. But it doesn’t show on these pictures. I am surprised how much everybody loves this. Just goes to show: I have no idea.
What in the world are you talking about . . . lumps and bumps? We all have them (well at least most of us) but what the heck, we’re in our 50’s so who cares. And, seriously and I’m being serious you look wonderful in that top. I agree full heartedly with the others and that first photo is WOW! I think this outfit is very very stylish and chic. But, the great thing about this entire esemble is it made for another excellent post from the hilarious Greetje. I’m thinking you should be our fashion comedy writer.
And, yes , trade the yellow for a black (patent leather would look striking), also good move driving right back to the shoe shop for those extraordinary boots.
Hahaha… Yes buying those boots was a naughty trick of me. I could not get them out of my mind. They were not cheap (…) but they last me a long time.
As for the purpose of this blog… I have to get my hands on those deleted photos and show you what I am talking about.
It is not that I mind very much that my skin is not as tight anymore as it used to be, but I do not want to emphasize it either.
Glad you thought the post was funny. I am always very much in doubt about that.
Liebe Greetje,
lg Marion
Dear Marion, I am going to reply in English as my German is pretty bad. I can speak it reasonably and I can certainly read it, but have not written it in 42 (ouch..) years.
You are very kind in your compliments and I hope I can continue pleasing you every week with a new post. Perhaps you would also like Annette, Lady of Style, who is a fellow German and a smart dresser. This is the link to her blog:

Greetje
You look dashing! Love your outfit and your boots have my name written all over it. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
http://www.thefashionstirfry.com
I saw the boots while I was showing the daughters of friends around Amsterdam. The desire for those beauties did not cease. Three days later, after I had taken the girls back to the airport, I went straight to the shop and bought them. Never regretted it.
Ah dear Greetje! Great, honest post. I get the reason your arms are wrapped in across your chest in the outdoor photo; you look freezing, and sometimes you don’t want the world to know that. Okay, you have a gorgeous figure, and it’s no crime to show it off. You are covered up with this top, leaving things more to imagination which is very feminine. I will say that the first photos with your arms up and to the sides does create a more ‘look at my lumps’ image, and probably not what you were going for. But otherwise, very tasteful and classy silhouette. Awesome boots too!
Hahahaha… you made me laugh with this comment. Thank you.
I don’t see a blooper here but I am very conscious of my body lumps too when I wear a fitted top. Like you whenever I wear a very fitted top, I tend to wear a jacket with it so it doesn’t show as many lumps. My post today, I am wearing a fitted striped shirt too with a jacket to help cover lumps.
I like it with the yellow belt. But serious – this is a great outfit!

I have asked my photographer to send me the deleted photos again. As nobody seems to believe me.LOL
And I have got 1 vote for and 1 vote against the yellow belt. Fortunately we all differ in taste.
I LOVE this outfit! Seriously! Not trying to be rude here but WTF? Women have bumps…and you shouldn’t be scared to show them off. Sexy ones like that deserve to be shown off. It’d be different if it was a huge stomach you were hiding but those are your breasts. Something to be proud of. I’d be accenting those bumps a whole lot more if I were you. Also I love the blue for you and that hat is a winner too.
This goes to show how we see ourselves so very differently than others.
bisous
Suzanne
I agree on that point: we do see ourselves different from others. The nice thing about blogging is that it works so much better than a mirror. And I don’t mind breasts really, although they do get in the way of fashion. But the other (deleted) pictures were not kind. I will ask my photographer to send them again to prove I was not kidding.
First of all, I adore that skirt – gorgeous!! But I absolutely disagree that the shirt is a blooper! We are always more critical of ourselves, but if you hadn’t pointed out your flaws, I honestly (and we are both honest with each other… aren’t we?!) then I wouldn’t have noticed!! Seriously, who doesn’t have what you call “lumps and bumps”? They are what make us women! Now as for when you were cold, yeah, I understand not posting those, haha! But I think you look lovely in ALL these photos!!!
xo ~kim
Gosh woman, you are quick in commenting… And yes, please be honest. I can handle it.
I think it is smart to hide the flaws and emphasize the best features. No need to show lumps and bumps. I might have to ask my photographer to send some of those aweful photos and publish them as well. Just to prove it.
From the photos you posted its an absolutely great look – the skirt/boots and top look so, so good together!
I know, I thought I still had the bad photos when I started the post, only to find out I deleted them. So the post is missing its point.
In honesty, my absolutely first impression when I saw your first photo was, wow, Greetje looks great in that majestic doorway. Then when you were really critical I started looking for what you mean. Lumps and bumps, we ALL have them. Maybe this is an outfit that you have to move in all the time – no standing still! – to feel great in. I have several of those.
You are a mountain range? I am the desert. It takes all geographies… Personally, I think you’re gorgeous in this. I especially like you in the arms wrapped pose, the look on your face is priceless. Thanks, Greeje!!
Hahahaha… You had me laughing out loud. Mountains and deserts hahaha. I used to be a desert until I was 34. No clue what happened but I now know what they mean by: “be careful what you wish for”. I made a deal with God on this subject when I was 13. He just delivered 20 years later, so in my opinion the deal is off and he can take back the goods.
That is so funny! And, I too, was more of a prairie girl than a mountain for the longest time. I actually miss those days.
So do I. Never thought I would say that but there you go.
?!?! I really don’t know what you are talking about, Greetje…
The shirt, especially on your first photo that also shows the lovely A-line of your skirt, looks very good on you. I fully agree with Kim’s comment.
I prefer it without the yellow belt by the way.
Have a good start into the new week and thank you for your recent comments 🙂
Annette | Lady of Style
Yes the yellow belt was another try that failed. i agree. And I think I should have taken another angle with this post as the pictures where it was hideous were deleted.
I agree with Kim and Annette, I’m not seeing a problem here. In fact this first picture is one of my favorites of yours. You have an absolutely lovely figure and can wear a form fitting top and this great skirt. No need to be so hard on yourself.
I must say, I do get critical about my posts too. The post I did with the zig zag patterned dress I felt like I didn’t get this really beautiful dress styled right. I don’t see this here in your pictures, but it is bound to happen in ones’ own eyes. If you feel this way it’s just an opportunity to change. In my art business some of my biggest mistakes turned into the biggest successes because of the opportunity to change.

Change is something we must embrace all the time, as things are changing constantly. But sometimes you need a kick in the behind. I wonder what you would have thought if I had shown you the “bad” pictures. I am going after them.
We all take some bad pictures. I know I have some bad ones, plenty indeed. It’s a fashion blog we are doing and inspiration is the reason. I see you as an beautiful lady that I’m inspired by. I get the feeling that you have a personality that is fun plus a good wit.

You just made my day. No… my week. Thank you.
PS I have seen a round animal print bag similar to Elle’s (My daily costume) – cost is £38 in local clothes exchange shop. Tempted!
I am searching high and low for a copy of her bag. Is it one of those hat box shaped bags? Small or big enough to hold normal women’s stuff? If I were you I would buy it. You see at Elle’s blog how many times you can use it.
I didn’t realise you were also looking for Elle’s bag until I saw your blog. The one I saw at the beginning of January (and which was still in the shop yesterday) is about 8 inches in diameter and maybe 3-4 inches deep. I am not sure how practical it would be (but since when has fashion been practical?). The animal print is a small print and the surface is hairy. Since I had already bought a couple of bags (well er…3) this year I thought it was too much to buy another…..
No, not practical at all. Too small.
That’s why I haven’t bought it – and also the way those round bags open, I would be afraid everything would spill out.
Don’t laugh but I have just thrifted a hat in tan and black animal print (with a small brim) so with our purple coats and hats we could, be twins (only I will be the shorter, fatter one!). LOL!
hahaha… Let us not do that. It is just as terrible as an old couple wearing the same sensible outdoors jackets.
People dressed as twins works well until the age of about 6! My sister and I are 15 months apart and my mother dressed us as twins when we were young. Sometimes you see elderly twins on the TV and they are still dressed identically! Ugh!
Okay,
Greetje,
I actually love this color combo and the dress,
Do no like the belt with it, sorry,
And see why you are putting this in the blooper?

I think it shows ” your girls ” nicely,
Is that bad for someone almost 60?
I don’t think so, and I loved that pic of you in the window.

This is a keeper, my dear…

I can’t wait to see what you got thrifting , btw,
http://mydailycostume.com
It is lack of material (photos) that makes most of you respond so kindly to this outfit. Never mind. One day I will show you why.
But I am surprised that this post is appreciated this much. It is like bringing out a record. You never know whether it is going to be a hit.
As for the thrifted purchases…. sorry Elle, just this bonnet that I showed. Rest was new.
I’ll have to take your word for it that this isn’t a good look, as it doesn’t really show up in the photos that it is a bad as you’re telling us. But, the fact that Husband is right, oooh, that IS annoying!
Do like the thrift shop hat. Very nice indeed. And the Angela Caputi necklace —- want it, want it!!
Much love from England,
Rosemary from http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
Hi Rosemary. If you search Angela Caputi’s website you might find some retailers selling the necklaces in the UK. (You must have clicked through from this post, as there is no necklace from her in this one.)
When I imagine lumps and bumps I come up with the picture of Mr. Michelin in my head. And by no means you come even close to this picture. So I just enjoyed your outfit without seeing the flaws. I like your hat too, never would have thought seeing you with hats, concerning the destroying factor of your hairdo.
I know… a hat does not do my hair any good. But it is not as bad as I thought it would be. And nice and warm. Really this one is more like a bonnet. And you are very kind in your comment. You should have seen the other photos haha.
As others have said you look fabulous in these picture, but I totally understand what you mean. I know that even if you manage to get some good photos from a photoshoot, you know that there were plenty of others you did not like. Like you I don’t like to show any of my lumps and bumps that I don’t want the world to see. That is a personal choice. I just always want to show myself in the most flattering way. So I totally get what you mean. In the end it’s about how YOU feel in an outfit. If it wasn’t 100% fabulous, there is no point wearing that same outfit again. So even if you may not want to wear this top the same way next time, there is still plenty you can do with it, like layering it underneath a jacket.
Exactly Sylvia. I will never wear it like this as ai would be conscious the whole time.
Greetje, now I realize you’re a little Spanish, you’re a real exaggerated! The text of your post is absolutely misleading and comedian. Greetje, know you a little, I know you like to joke and laugh, even yourself, but please! You think, at your age, and you have that figure, we can talk about bumps? I think many women your age can be offended. Greetje, your body is beautiful, even your breasts, and the dresses and pants look lovely on you. Today you made me a bit angry. EXAGGERATED!
To me, today’s look I like. I think the skirt and sweater beautiful, even with those mountains that dominate the landscape, is beautiful. The blue and black is a combination I like. The boots and necklace are perfect on the outfit. You do not get to be ugly neither wanting it!
As always I enjoyed your comment. The thing is, I made this post in all honesty but cannot show the proof as I deleted the bad photos. So everybody is saying ” what are you talking about?” Stupid me.
You are right about age and figure. I am grateful and do evrything possible to keep myself fit and this size.

Thank you.
You look dashing! Love your outfit and your boots have my name written all over it. Thank you for stopping by my blog.

I saw the boots while I was showing the daughters of friends around Amsterdam. The desire for those beauties did not cease. Three days later, after I had taken the girls back to the airport, I went straight to the shop and bought them. Never regretted it.

Thank you.
From the photos you posted its an absolutely great look – the skirt/boots and top look so, so good together!
I know, I thought I still had the bad photos when I started the post, only to find out I deleted them. So the post is missing its point.

Yes the yellow belt was another try that failed. i agree. And I think I should have taken another angle with this post as the pictures where it was hideous were deleted.
