OK, my camera has a problem with the colour green. That is a fact. Photos of my Kermit green jacket (here and here) always were a funny green as well. So take it from me that the sweater I am wearing in this post is a warmer green than the photos are showing. I think the white sneakers with the skinny jeans are a youthful combination but still (age) appropriate. My stepdaughter thinks this look is too young for me. Especially with the hem of the jeans turned up. What do you think??? Please give me your honest opinion, not your flattery.
These photos were taken by my (ex) colleague Deirdre in her garden. She recently had a baby (her first), called Frederique and moved to a new home (as people do when the family expands). I decided to look her up. We had a nice girls chat and she was so kind to take pictures. The sneakers I am wearing were a recent purchase after being inspired by a blogging friend, but I forgot who that was (stupid me). When I saw these in the window of a shop in the Nine Streets in Amsterdam, I could not resist them. Even though I think my feet look big (or rather huge) in them. But they are so comfortable!!!
The rest of the outfit is inspired by Trina of Tea Time with Trina. She showed us a casual outfit and I copied the top, the jeans and the scarf. Also the bag, but forgot to photograph it. The scarf is a present from my friend and neighbour Saskya.
Below: the white sneakers !!!Below: Frederique. Isn’t she lovely? That’s all fooks. No…. wait a minute… linking up to Bella’s Shoe Shine, where you can see a whole bunch of lovely shoes and click through to their blogging owners.
And I am linking up to Sacramento who is showing you different bloggers wearing watches in Share-in-Style: watches.
I really like your casual green outfit! congratulations to you and your colleague for her baby!!!

Thank you. The votes are five against this outfit and four in favour. If I count your comment as “favour” it is five in favour and five against haha. I shall take that as ” be careful, you could do better, you are living on the edge”.
Well, you can certainly wear skinny jeans. You always look good in trousers of any kind. I do prefer the look of your previous post with the high heels and jeans, but this is an entirely different look. Does it work? I suppose so, but I’m not into that kind of style. If you are happy in it, just go for it. What’s going to happen? The fashion police are going to come and take you away and lock you up and make you wear Prada?
Cheers,
Rosemary of http://www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com
You are right Rosemary, nothing is really going to happen. I just don’t want people laughing about me. I am still a bit conscious about that.
And I am glad you are honest with me. It is not my preferred style either, but sometimes I need to be on flat shoes.
Honestly, I think you wear this look well. The fun part is having a cuff and showing the high top sneakers. I like it!
Oh goodie.. 1 vote for the hem up. Thanks Glenda.
Gorgeous baby and fun style…love the scarf!
And the votes in favour are up to four. Going well here. The scarf works very well with the top, doesn’t it? At first I thought I was allergic to something in the material as I got an allergic reaction when I wore the scarf for the first time. But it was a coincidence. I was allergic to penicillin (that is solved now).
First of all what a beautiful baby. I like your sneakers especially because they have zippers and therefore much easier to put on. I don’t think it’s too youthful at all , people who know you can agree with me that you have such a youthful character that it fits you like a glove. The only thing I have trouble with is the way you tie up your scarf, that is stylish so not in balance with the outfit I would have picked a more casual way to tie it up.
You may teach me a more casual way next Saturday. I am always in a fight with scarfs. Never know how to tie them.
Liebe Greetje,
Weiter so!
viele liebe Grüße
Marion
Marion, counting yours as well the score for the votes in favour is three. LOL
I told my stepdaughter that she better get used to the fact that we middleaged women refuse to dress like our grannies.
I think you wear them well because your figure looks good in jeans. I think it is a real challenge to wear casual clothing as we age. I see all the young bloggers looking great in very casual outfits. I remember Trina’s post and thought it was a good example too. I think you have made a nice easy going outfit. We all need them and good to see one on your blog. What a beautiful baby!
blue hue wonderland
Thanks Ann, I do agree it is not that easy to wear casual outfits. It often looks either too young or too granny-wise. That is two votes in favour. LOL
And yes Frederique is beautiful, but in my opinion most babies are beautiful. I just love them all.
Well you know I approve 100%. You did it so wonderfully.
It is the confident face that lets me get away with it LOL.
It does look like the cuffed jeans are controversial. The perfect reason to wear them! Seriously, I think it’s important to wear what you love and what makes you feel good. Self expression is different for all of us and very subjective. I love the differences that we bring to this vibrant community.
I might lower the turn-up 50% haha. I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I feel a bit uneasy about this look myself. I think I will choose something in between.
They look really cool. You can pull off anything.
Love and sunshine, dear Greetje.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Ah… my dear … that is so not true LOL. I cannot pull off anything. But I will admit that I have an easy figure. Thanks for the compliment.
OK … where’s the snow?? Have you seen the snow we still have? Take a look at my front lawn and you will be glad you don’t live in Canada Greetje!!
I’m not a sneakers girl, but yours are stylish and I’d love a pair like those! Perfect with skinny jeans and WOW – your legs are beautiful!!

I forgot to mention that adorable baby!!! Also your beautiful scarf, I am a scarf kinda girl, a huge collection and would love one like this!! 🙂
It is from Bali.
I had a look at those snow mountains…!!! My goodness. Here in The Netherlands it has been a very mild winter, no freezing at all in my (west) part of the country. Which is rare.
And I am not a sneaker kinda girl either…. But boy are they comfortable.
Warum?
Thank you Barbara for your nice comment. I don’t know yet what I will do with this outfit. Just wear it like this or adjust it.
Such an interesting conversation. Let me begin with saying I don’t think this outfit is too young for you. If ever I think someone’s outfit is too young for them, it is because the wearer looks uncomfortable and not at ease with what they are wearing. Sometimes they look like they are trying to create a persona that is not genuine. I do feel that clothing is a way of self expression, and generally really support people wearing whatever they desire! But, if I feel a really mixed energy, I might think the person is wearing clothing not suited to them, not necessarily too young, but not suited to them. Here, you look so at ease, and comfortable and happy! I don’t know, I’d say it’s very age appropriate for a very casual setting. I will admit that it seems a departure from what we usually see you wearing. You are often dressed in very chic clothing, but you are in the city and shopping and dining. Here you are visiting and cuddling a cute baby. I will also add that I’m not really understanding the scarf, and maybe it is the way it is draped.
Thanks Sue for this honest comment. Yes, the scarf seems to get more criticism than the look or the jeans. My friend Marianne will give me guidance haha.
Those sneakers are awesome! They are on-trend and fun (and comfortable)!
But I think I will leave the hem of the jeans turned down…
No! Not too young. Our generation (well, my older generation and the one before me in the 50s, I guess, but I pass the honors on to yours) made jeans cool in a timeless way, and sneaks are for everyone. Remind her that we’ve been wearing jeans forever. And that sneakers have a function beyond fashion that is appropriate to anyone with feet. Pooh. You look very effortlessly easy and cool and chic.
Everybody’s feet look big in sneakers.
Sweet baby! So nice that you got out with your friend into the pretty weather … the outfit is perfect for that!
I can’t get decent color, either, and editing is touchy. I believe you!
I am quite surprised that everybody find this outfit to be so different from what I normally wear. Didn’t think that myself. I will go through my outfits and check. You are probably right though. Presumably I like this just as a change and because it is so terribly comfortable.
My honest opinion? You look great! I love seeing you in more casual looks, I think it suits you really well. I love the jeans and sneakers and how you’ve paired it with the green top and the scarf. It’s all in the combination. It would look cool with a shirt and a blazer, too 🙂
That would be my first instinctive look: a jacket and a shirt. Chic on top and casual at the bottom. With this combination I imitated Trina.
I don’t think you look “too young” at all! In fact, I think you look fabulous. Would I wear this look to dinner? No. But would I wear it around town? In a heartbeat. Should you (since that IS the question) – only if you feel comfortable!! And that’s regardless of what anyone else is saying. And looking at your lovely photos, I’d say you look extremely confident and comfortable, so I hope to see you in something like this again!! It’s interesting how younger ones can make us question ourselves. I’ve never had issues with what I wore… until my daughter turned into a teenager and felt compelled to comment on each and every outfit. But then again, maybe she learned it from me?
xo ~kim
Haha Kim.. teenagers are so black and white, so judgemental. Their look at things become milder as they grow older fortunately.
Thank you for your comment. I will keep my confident face and wear it.
It’s a good look for a (very) casual day but I find the jumper quite shapeless on you. (agreeing with Anja here). I also don’t particularly like the scarf here which looks too dressy in combination with the rest of the outfit. Did you pin it? I think so. On a very casual outfit like this, I think it should be tossed in a loser, more casual way. In terms of correctness of the color green, it could also be your computer monitor. In order to see colors properly there you would need to calibrate your monitor. It is quite possible that I see the color correctly on my monitor.
And I thought this scarf was casual. Marianne also commented that I wear it the wrong way. (No this time it was not pinned, but it could have been, you are right in that.) she is going to show me how to do it properly.
I like a top to be wide when I wear skinnies, but I can your point ladies.
Ah Greetje! How lovely you look in GREEN (at least in my opinion) and you in skinny jeans is youthful in the best possible way. Love the white shoes- I wouldn’t cuff the jeans and you are all set. Great fresh look and comfy to boot. Thank you for linking up to Shoe Shine- you are a STAR!
OK we have three votes against now (or mildly -sort of- against) and four in favour. Which means it is a controversial topic. I am curious to see how this will develop.
And I always want to link up with you darling. Just miss it sometimes being busy.
As a grown woman my rule is : wear just what make you feel good! I think that your casual outfit is young…but you are too! You are one of the youngest women I know, and your real age is only a detail … besides, if sneakers and skinny jeans make you feel confident with yourself my opinion is it definitely is the right outfit for you!
Ah.. I hear some doubt in your words. You would not be in favour of this outfit. I get your point, it is not very ladylike which is not necessary as I can style it differently and still be casual. Josep-Maria suggested boots.
I have riding boots in a cognac/sand colour. They would be good and more “my age”. But I also agree that there is a side to me that wants this foolishness of skinnies and sneakers.
And I am going to steal that line of yours and use it many times:” my real age is only a detail!! ” Hahaha… priceless. Thank you.
The doubt you read in my words is probably the evidence I am not very confident with English…as a teen ager I sometimes heard people laughting at me, and I didn’t like that! It took me several years to feel at ease with myself and now my only rule in fashion is : do what you think is right for you!…I like your jeans and sneakers just as I like when you wear more classic clothes…I think that first of all I like your cheerful personality! ( but don’t like who judges people looking at their clothes )
p.s.
And about my English I feel like an elephant in a china shop!!! ( so I hope you understand what I mean )
I always understand you perfectly. I also understood your first comment, but it is still something you would not wear. And not only because you are different from me. I think I will be a bit careful with this look. But thank you for your encouraging words. And bupy no means are you a pn elephant in a China shop. LOL
Greetje and skinny jeans, the perfect combination. The jersey I like, but the color is not true. The scarf is cute, and the whole set is perfect for a casual day. The sneakers are nice, although not the shoe that I had chosen this look. I do not see your feet exaggerated, honestly. I like the scenery photos.
I am interested to know what kind of shoes you would have chosen. If you like to share that with me, please bear in mind that they have to be comfortable. So no heels.
Greetje friend, I would not put heels in this outfit, of course. You know I’m pretty conservative and classic. I, in this proposal, you would wear with comfortable boots, yellow, Panama Jack type or Timberlan. Is that okay?
Oh I have those, in cognac colour, would be perfect. Thanks for the tip.
Skinny jeans looks perfect on you! Fun sneakers, I don’t own too many for fun, they are typically not my style. I like that these have the side zipper which is perfect for someone lazy like me that never untie her shoelaces.

Greetje, The truth is still flattering , sorry! I love this shade on you and the loose fit. I am really happy about the sneaker trend, glad you are wearing it and looking great! My next post is something I would have worn with sneakers, but did not. Live and learn.

We do help eachother with inspiring blogs don’t we? After all, I got inspired by Trina for this look.
Yes, we do Greetje, and that is the best part of this!

Honestly, you just made me want to go purchase some new white sneakers. I love this casual look. I think there’s a time and place for the wearing of sneakers and this is the perfect combination, it’s a perfect holiday, Saturday, fun in the park kind of look and very age appropriate. By the way, what brand are those fun sneakers? And, besides, nothing, no nothing speaks louder at our age than a fun day of comfort. I also had Tori (my daughter) pull up your post and she loved it on you. Thanks for the shout out, cute lady.
As Tori is honest with you, I am sure she dares to be honest with me as well. So I can continue wearing it like this. Yeah!
Josep-Maria had a good alternative too: yellow boots, Panama Style or timberland. I have some cognac/sand colour boots, flat with riding adornments. They would be great too.
The brand of these sneakers are Marc O’Polo, but this is a European brand. Here is their link. (I can get them for you if you want, but it is a bit difficult with returning).
http://www.marc-o-polo.nl/dames/schoenen-accessoires/schoenen/sneaker/offwhite/16671-110.html
Too young? Rubbish. This look is casual and quite ageless. My only problem with the sneakers is that they are white. Especially white sneakers with a further dark-ish outfit. Same issue for me as the white boots issue;-).
The model of the green top is also not my favorite on you. It has a pyramid shape and in particular seen from the side it does not flatter you.
The skinnies are perfect, also rolled up. And the scarf is great; how sweet of Saskya!
Making things complicated here now… Now .. White is not an issue with me and there is white in the scarf. (Yes very nice of Saskya.)
As for the top… Hmmm yes it is a bit shapeless but sometimes I feel like being comfortable.
Makes perfect sense to me;-).
Dont forget my vote against 😉
It does look a lot better without the hems. I like the panama look a like shoes idea.
Btw you should wear whatever you like and feel happy in. Do think you should also ask a few people my age for your voting panel as well 🙂
Hahaha… no I won’t, people your age will be represented by you and I am taking your comment seriously.
Well you know I approve 100%. You did it so wonderfully.

Liebe Greetje,

Marion, counting yours as well the score for the votes in favour is three. LOL
I told my stepdaughter that she better get used to the fact that we middleaged women refuse to dress like our grannies.
I think you wear them well because your figure looks good in jeans. I think it is a real challenge to wear casual clothing as we age. I see all the young bloggers looking great in very casual outfits. I remember Trina’s post and thought it was a good example too. I think you have made a nice easy going outfit. We all need them and good to see one on your blog. What a beautiful baby!

Thanks Ann, I do agree it is not that easy to wear casual outfits. It often looks either too young or too granny-wise. That is two votes in favour. LOL
And yes Frederique is beautiful, but in my opinion most babies are beautiful. I just love them all.
Honestly, I think you wear this look well. The fun part is having a cuff and showing the high top sneakers. I like it!
Oh goodie.. 1 vote for the hem up. Thanks Glenda.
