Now, this, I believe, is a stunner of a photo. Ron had spotted a coleseed field and asked whether I had a bright blue top. Hah, as it so happened, I had this outfit lined up for the next photo shoot. The reasonable weather was over but the pretty yellow flowers were not going to wait for ideal circumstances. Rain was expected at 11 a.m and we left the house at 9.30 a.m. Talk about cutting it short.
It was cold and windy. By now you know what I think of that. And although the yellow flowers were a great background for the top, we weren’t sure how to do the head-to-toe shot. Trouble was ahead.
Below: another winning shot.
Below: first try to get a head-to-toe picture. The bag I picked up in Italy two years ago. Yes, at the Max Mara outlet. That is where I also found the pleated skirt (seen before in a winter version with brown boots and sweater). My shoes aren’t very visible…. Dog Charlie is photo bombing.
Below: better, but still there are plants blocking the view. My legs are already tanned from a few visits to the tan bed (I know, I know.. bad, bad, bad. The blotches on my bare legs are old age/sun blotches. There is a price to pay for everything). Heels of my new pumps are sinking in the sand. Bought the black peeptoe shoes at Foof in Haarlem.
Below: we tried a different strip of flowers. Only, there was such a fierce wind blowing that those pictures weren’t good. Showing you just the flowers.
Below: again we moved to another part of this area. I am wearing a different belt and….. socks in my peeptoe shoes. With some people they are a hit, others find it appaling.
Below: I find them quite cute and very modern. But my heart is screaming: Why Wear Socks When You are Over Five Years Old?
Below: close-up of the socks, bought at Stemm Voetiek in Haarlem.
Below: then I climbed on the ledge of a fence.. Most pictures were very blurry. Unfortunately.
Below: see what I mean?? A perfect Marilyn Monroe shot with the focus on the sign behind me.
We tried to recreate that shot. Which meant there was little time to focus the camera as the wind was very unpredictable. We laughed viewing these pictures. Hopefully you will too: a few shots of our trials …..
Below: an old age pensioner (well, nearly).. climbing on a ledge with high heels…
Below: AAAAgghh… that was because of the wind messing up my hair.
Below: hopefully there were no people in the building behind me, as they would have killed themselves laughing with this moment of a fully exposed bum.
Below: this is the best “wind shot” we got. Apart from the shot where the skirt was blown so high you could see my underwear. Hope you don’t mind that I don’t put that one on the blog.
Then the unhappy part of this shoot.
As I was a bit disappointed we didn’t really have a really good head to toe shot of the outfit with the socks, Ron drove to the another place. Where there was a road block. On we went and we passed a tulip field where you could pick the flowers yourself for a very small price.
Below: as a background this was a good idea.
Below: but… I had to stand in between the tulips, again with my heels in the sand and lots of tulip leaves blocking the view of my feet. And Ron was going to take the shot on his knees, close to my feet and upwards. If there is one position you should NEVER photograph me, it is this.
Trouble
I was very cold by that time (it was no bare-leg-weather at all), I needed to go to the toilet quite badly and I got a proposition for a shot which lacked a lot of things I asked for.
Poor Ron… You see, I have rather a temper… and I flew off the handle. Which means, I stamped my feet (which wasn’t easy standing in the sand), shouted and screamed: “Right!! That’s it!! No more, I am fed up with this, I am going home, I will stop blogging, no need for you to take any pictures anymore… etc etc.”
Needless to say that this is not something you should do. To anyone and most certainly not to the loving person who is trying to help you while not even enjoying one single moment of it himself. It wasn’t easy to set this straight. Which served me right. We are good again, thank God.
My preferred wear of socks
Here is an iPhone picture of the socks with boyfriend jeans. I prefer wearing them with jeans. Socks and skirts… it will never be my love. I tried though.

The photos in the yellow flowers are fantastic! I love the socks, and I take my hat off to you for pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying something new. You have lovely long legs so you look great in ankle socks. Bless Ron for being so patient!

Yes the poor guy. Well he wasn’t really patient anymore when I stamped my feet and started shouting haha.
Fortunately he has seen this all before and knows it passes but it takes him longer than me.
The socks are way out of my comfort zone! So yes I did push myself. I blame Lisa The Sequinist. And my friend Sabine.
You know you have a good relationship when you can fly off the handle once in a while and nobody holds a grudge. I love the photo of you in the midst of the yellow flowers – the blue just pops against all that yellow.
As you’ve seen I will occasionally wear socks with sandals, but only certain sandals and with particular outfits, not with just anything. I just bought a new pair of thin “jigsaw puzzle” print socks this weekend that I will try wearing with my black sandals. I do think it ‘s a look that works better with pants or a casual skirt.
Kudos to Ron for his patience and photography skills!
I am not sure yet what I like or dislike around the subject of socks. With trousers or skirt. If yes with skirt, what kind of skirt? At least I am trying which is a big step out of my comfort zone. I think your new black sandals are lovely. Will see them with the jigsaw puzzle socks shortly?
My last post was on how you make the Netherlands the place to be for fashion and culture.
This message is on how I love reading your adventures with your loving husband. I smile, giggle and laugh out loud.
The blue looks wonderful on you. The belt pulled it all together. Your closet must be room of joy!
Thank you for starting my day on a happy note.
I am so glad with a comment like this. Makes my day and is the reason why I keep blogging. Thank you very much.
My closet? Hmm .. needs weeding. Just cannot bring myself to do that task.
Love the photos. They are stunning. Well worth the effort. Not sure about the socks not really my thing.
I can so understand that socks are not your thing. Not mine either. I am trying it though just to see whether I can get used to it. Not so sure about that haha.
Yes a stunner !! The blue is perfect on you. That yellow field is magnificent. Love the belt and shoes plus socks! Glad you missed the rain.

It was rather a coincident that Ron asked for a bright blue top and I had exactly such an outfit lined up.
Not really a coincidence… You seem to have almost one of everything! 😉 But that you had the outfit, already in mind, is a great coincidence: you too are thinking like a team!!
A good call on Ron’s part. I am rather envious, my hubby, although I adore him, is just not patient or skilled with photography. How many shots he takes with his thumbprint in the middle. Oh well, cant really complain.. He is willing at least!
The blue top in the yellow field in the stuff of paintings.
Happy weekend!

Ron was very pleased with your comment.
Ron’s photos just get better and better, the top shot of you in the field of rapeseed flowers is exceptional and the tulips and narcissi are stunning. I did laugh at you flashing your bum on the tow path… the things we do for our blogs!
What a gorgeous chartreuse green sweater in the last photo and fab groovy socks btw, but personally I prefer the look with jeans. Glad to hear that Ron has forgiven you and look forward to your next (and hopefully warmer) photshoot. xx
Thanks Fiona for the compliments. Glad I could make you laugh. I have worn that lime sweater on the blog before. This is the link:

Hi Greetje. The shot of you in the coleseed (rapeseed in U.K.) is fantastic- the blue and yellow together are stunning. But didn’t it smell really strong? I get hay fever from rapeseed so – apart from the pretty yellow – am not a fan. As for your Marilyn shots -hilarious. Thanks for including them all, and not just the perfect ones. We like to know that you suffer for your art! ? I like the socks with the shoes, makes them more like booties. I know what you mean though, short socks in general remind me of schooldays. However these are definitely not school socks. Too Cool for school ? And the lovely Dutch tulips and narcissi – beautiful! it’s lovely to see whole fields of them!
I shared a little video of lots and lots of flower fields (Keukenhof) on my No Fear of Fashion Facebook page (try and say that a couple of times… No Fear of Fashion Facebook page…).
Too Cool for School is a fun expression in this context.
No, the rapeseed (what a horrible name) dit not smell very strong. As a matter of fact I didn’t smell anyting. I don’t have hay fever, so I was fine.
Thanks very much for your comment. As so often.
I didn’t realise you had a Facebook page. I’ll look it out. I only participate in Facebook in a minor way. Rapeseed is a terrible name. I prefer yours – coleseed. By Marilyn – I meant Monroe – no disrespect to your friend Marilyn btw.
I know you meant Monroe dear, so did I. I don’t have a friend called Marilyn.
Ha! I’m making people up now! ? It had been a confusing day!! Sorry.
I love how this post, like many of yours, was just like a little storybook. The odd part is that you put the happy ending at the beginning in that field of yellow flowers!! On second thought, I rather like that! You really do look spectacular in that field of yellow and Ron was so spot on, asking you to wear blue! (I know you said it was already your plan)
The Marilyn photos were not only humorous but you were bravely holding your own in the wind! High heels teetering on the edge as you mooned the building behind. I’m telling you Greetje, this was dramatic tension and humor as the plot developed.
Then finally, the quintessential tulips of Holland!!! As our heroine finally couldn’t face another field of mud the cute, sexy , socks she wore, just weren’t enough to inspire her!! Off camera shouting at the camera man and our star walks off the set! THE END
This post was one of my favorites.
Now you had me laughing.. Me the heroine in a play whahaha.. Do you think anyone will want to buy the rights to film it hahaha?
I always put the best photo at the top to ensure it women are tempted to actually read the post. As I know from advertising, our brains scans the whole time and it determines in 1 to 2 seconds whether to proceed or go and do something else. So it has to be interesting, inviting, beautiful or funny. I am not ready yet to put the horrible but funny photos at the top.

I think socks and heels with skirts doesn’t work with bare legs. Socks in heels with trousers are the perfect combination for me
I heard that at the office too. I wore the boyfriend jeans with the socks to the office. Haven’t worn the skirt yet with the socks. I will try some more combinations.
Marvelous photos among the beautiful yellow flowers, it is a show of color! And I love this skirt, you already know. I love the color and this wonderful volume. The jersey is a very beautiful blue and is well combined with the soft tone of the skirt. I am surprised by your shoes with those original socks. I find it hard to accept this addition to the look, I prefer shoes without socks. The latest photos, with the wind shaking your hair and your skirt are fantastic! My friend Greetje is the closest thing to my admired Marilyn!
Hahaha, you have me laughing here. Me and Marilyn are soooo alike whahaha.
But thank you anyway my friend. You say the nicest things.
I am not a fan of socks in shoes either, but I am trying to get out of my comfort zone. If I have to choose I choose the outfit with the black and white belt and no socks.
I will give the socks another go with a blue pencil skirt.
So enjoy your posts which keep me up to date with the latest fashions from Holland.( My mother and fathers birth country.)
Thanks for keeping it real!
The world of Facebook and blogs, of glossy magazines and TV is all glamour, never real. I don’t really mind. My philosophy is: “if you want real and bad news, read the paper”. But I do want to counter balance the fake world a little bit. And I want to entertain.
I love the pictures of you in the blue top waist deep in a sea of yellow flowers. The cloudy weather made the colors just pop. I liked the full length shot just after the one with the doggie. Maybe not perfect as your heels sunk in but we saw what a gorgeous outfit you wore. The windy pictures are so funny. You were a good sport to try it. Bravo to you and Ron for your efforts and sharing them with us. Oh yes, the shoes and socks with pants……tres chic and fun!
Anything to make you laugh Elaine. I am an entertainer at heart and slowly the blog develops from just outfits to outfits and fun. Who knows where I will end. It is an organic process and nobody is pushing me or telling me what to do. All my decisions. I love that about it.
And I agree with your choice of photo. That one after the one with Charlie is the best one.
Wow. What a great color, this blue. Fits you very well. Great pics too. Have a good time.
I just love vibrant, bright colours. And they love me. The contrast between the blue and yellow is my husband’s idea.
Oh my…I want to visit that field of tulips and pick bunches!!!
Ron really is such a good sport, you are a very demanding model.
The Marilyn Monroe shots are hilarious!
Good for you on giving the socks and shoes thing a go.
bisous
Suzanne
Yes, we had quite a few talks about me and my temper. Let’s say this was “a learning moment”.
I wouldn’t mind visiting that field again and pick bunches too. On boots with a coat on.
Remember Ron gave me all those tulips for my 250th blogpost anniversary?
Socks and me aren’t friends yet, but we are getting acquainted.
Good to see you survived the trip back home.
Bwahaha!! Your Marilyn shots are brilliant. I can imagine you standing there trying to keep your skirt down. And well done on the socks. I prefer them with jeans but I hope you keep playing with them. And the locations – all those beautiful flowers, fields of them. You look stunning in the blue. I understand how things can quickly spiral out of control when there is a camera between you. Do I sound like I am talking from experience? Hahaha!! Not with blog photos, but other photos. Yes. I’m glad you sorted it all out.
Took a while to sort things out though. Better rein in my temper. Not easy after a lifetime of flying off the handle when I get cranky but we are never too old to learn.
I will see where my socks will bring me: nowhere? Just jeans? Skirt but perhaps another type? No idea. But I am trying, right?
Oh our patient husbands/photographers, they love us even when we are not at our best. The colors in your pictures are what drew me in and then I giggled along with you at those wonderful Marilyn shots. Fashion and clothes are so much fun and your spirit comes through each time. I’ve been watching the weather since we will be going to Amsterdam in early June and I know how cool and rainy it has been. Thanks for braving the elements to share these pics. I hope your shoes survived.
Hi Jane, I saw your request coming at Ron’s boat service. I was quite proud that one of my readers found her way to him. Stupid thing is that early June, we will be in France. He sent you an email with alternatives.
It has been gorgeous weather here too. From half March to half April it was really good weather, sometimes even 20 degrees C which is highly unusual. What can I say? Our weather is like the stock market: you can never tell. I do hope it will be perfect sunny weather when you come over as it makes the city so much prettier. Any city of course.
Thank you, Greetje, I just saw Ron’s suggested alternative date and that will work out wonderfully for us since it will be our last evening in Amsterdam. Yes, my challenge for traveling is packing for the upcoming weather. I consult the weather forecasts and then just have to trust in layers of clothing for any eventuality. Sew grateful!!
wouuu, those pictures are amazing!, you look absolutely gorgeous in your blue top on the yellow flowers field!. And so much fun watching your ‘marilyn’ pictures, even if you was finally fed up with all that posing and wind and cold (that happens when blogging, mwahaha ;DD)
I also prefer socks with pants, it’s a more flattering look anyway, modern and cool!
besos
Oh I love to be called cool haha. Doesn’t happen much. Thanks for the comment.
Dear Greetje,
I totally agree with you, this first photo is indeed a stunner one! You look so beautiful and natural in this field of yellow flowers and I love the juxtaposition of bright colors! Socks and heels are definitely one of my favourite style things and you did it great! Such a cool pairing right? But you are right, it’s a thing you either love or hate.
Nice to e-meet you and wishing you a lovely week ahead 🙂
Stella

Hi Stella, thanks for all your compliments, I am flattered. I am still getting used to socks. Not there yet, but trying.
You are so entertaining and gutsy Greetje! And you have fabulous legs! I wish I had known you were in London recently, we could have met up again.
Hi Lorraine, I will send you an email about London. And thanks for the compliments.
I’m almost sorry to have enjoyed this post so very much, considering you both paid an emotional price for it. But oh, the blue top amid yellow flowers! The narcissus! The Marilyn Monroe take off (and you very nearly did take off)! So much fun! I wouldn’t worry so much about not getting the bottom half in what turned out to be such a wonderful picture as you amongst the yellow flowers…maybe you could have sat in your car, with the door open, leaning out with legs crossed? A vintage sort of picture. And I adore the socks! It might not be ‘you’ but the color and pattern clearly work…and you have a wonderful leg shape and the right proportions to carry it off, if you don’t mind me saying so! It all made for a lively and interesting post! Thank you.
Don’t you worry about us haha. We are good as gold again. And I make these posts so you can laugh. That is the first goal of my blog.
Thank you for all your compliments. I am blushing (but thoroughly enjoying them haha). So glad you liked the post so much. Makes my day.
Gee, Greetje, I giggled like a fool through your whole blog! The windy photos are hysterically funny. I would love to have been there, to see it in person!
I think I agree that the socks work best with the jeans. And I love that screaming chartreuse top you’ve paired them with!
Many thanks to Ron for his photography. The two of you make a good team, despite the occasional flare-up!
Oh Judy, these flare-ups were there 28 years ago and will probably remain until one of us dies. We are getting a lot better at avoiding them and not making them linger. There is progress.
I am glad you giggled. My main goal with the blog is to make people laugh. Thank you very much for your comment and I will pass the compliments on to Ron.
Lovely pics of the flowers and I like the way you and Ron are committed to make the best pictures.
My compliments for Ron!!!I know your temper..haha. O I almost forget.. love the outfit and getting accustomed on the socks .
Hahaha, oh yes you know my temper. Quite something we are still friends haha. The socks are gradually getting on my good side as well.
So many issues to comment on, so I’ll start with the socks! I’ve seen a couple of other bloggers wearing them, and at first I wasn’t sure. But realistically, I think they could be a smart choice. What’s wrong with keeping our feet a little warmer? And they are such a fun print (not 5 year oldish at all). Besides…they almost look like they are part of the shoe from afar!! I’ll probably try it soon—and I think it’s fabulous to think outside our unimaginative age!!
As for your temper—don’t we all have one? Some of us hide it better than others, but I have to tell you I was being a twit when the 3 of us went shopping for our last post on the blog! My mom just wasn’t playing nicely and she was on my last nerve! So, see—it happens to us all!! (You can even see it on a couple of her photos in the post–ha ha)
The flowers are just gorgeous, Greetje—how smart of you to get such a fabulous backdrop!!
Thanks for the good humor and fun post—and Marilyn Monroe shots!!
Jodie
http://www.jtouchofstyle.com
I have Ron to thank for the backdrop. He spotted the place. He put me and my heels in the middle of the field haha. I spoke to a few other bloggers and most of them are often nasty to their husbands haha. Aren’t we bad? We should cherish these loving souls instead of losing our temper. Loved your comment. As always.
I love your shoes and how you added the socks. You look awesome in royal blue. It’s my fav blue color. Thanks for sharing the tulip fields. I miss seeing them!
I have shared a video of the Keukenhof on my Facebook No Fear of Fashion page. If you want another look.
Royal blue works very well. On me any bright colour is good haha.
I’m still laughing and just finished sharing this with Par and now you have him laughing as well. He said you should be have comic column when you retire.
Your Marilyn shot is the best!!! And it really was a lovely photo, even if it just captures the gorgeous blue top.
I’m with you on the socks with the pumps, i like the look with the jeans (a lot) the socks are fabulous, by the way, but the skirt is so classy that the socks just take away from this look.
So glad you and Ron worked everything out. Blogging as we do, for a hobby, should be fun and enjoyable.
Well Trina, it is my character. I have a bit of a temper or as some friends would say “A bit? A bit? Woman you just have a temper!”
So whether we are making blog photos or doing something else, it might happen anyway. But the photoshoots do bring out the worst in both of us haha.
Tell Par that one of my plans for retirement is becoming a stand-up comedian.
Oh, Greetje. You are a Dutch National Treasure. Ok, I adore the socks with the shoes (OF COURSE) but I think they would work slightly better with a less girly skirt, something dark and more straight. They’re still fabulous here, but I hope you keep experimenting with them. You look very at home with them and your jeans, of course!
The multicoloured tulip photos and the yellow flower fields are just breathtaking. WELL DONE RON! Like my husband, he deserves a medal for putting up with our extreme irritation (that was phrased diplomatically, wasn’t it?). The wind is very trying when you’re taking outfit photos. My last four blog posts have been super windy, and I’m SO fed up with it. I just have to discard most of the photos and use only the ones where I don’t look completely weird. You at least look like you’re having fun in yours; I just look furious. xx
Oh photos can be so deceiving haha. No that is not true, most of the time it is quite amusing. I find that the ideal weather helps a lot. So no wind or rain, no bright sunshine, good temperatures and no heels in the sand. We do ask a lot. I am so glad I am not a model. Not that anyone would ever ask me to be, but I have a lot more respect for them than in the past.
Thanks for the tip of the straight and dark skirt. Got that in the closet, just have to find the right top with it. Oh I know what..
And I have never seen that you are furious in your pictures. The last post was so beautiful.
Loved the pictures … all of them. I do enjoy the fact that you share them all …. “blog-worthy” or not! The blue top among the beautiful flowers looks great!
I do not have a blog but have been known to be nasty to my husband …. I tease him that this is what keeps life interesting for us!
Always look forward to your and Ron’s adventures!
Not blog-worthy photos sometimes make me hesitate as I want to look my best of course. But I always give in for a good laugh. My main goal. As long as I can keep you entertained, I have succeeded.
You too are wearing socks at last!! They are very cute and make the look modern and stylish … my reason for wearing them is comfort!
Those flowers provide perfect backdrops for the photos… bright colours are always a good idea!
Getting good photos for the blog is a hard task sometimes. There are days in which it seems to be really impossible…
Oh yes, those windy, cold days. Or when it rains cats and dogs. I am going to give the socks another try with a different skirt. (Just got the tip to try it with a dark pencil skirt and I have that blue one which I bought with you at Rinascente.)
The pleated skirt and bright blue top look great! The belt is a wonderful addition. Such beautiful, fun photos and you are a blast–so funny! I’m in agreement on socks with skirts. The Mennonite women in our community wear them with sandals and dresses but not a look I like. The jeans photo is very cute too and the photobombing pooch is precious. I hope to see him with you again.
Oh Charlie (dog) joins us often on our trips. She has been on my blog many times. Photobomber as she is.
I will see how often I will wear the socks. In any case I try.
And I am glad you thought the post was funny. That is always important to me.
I am sorry but I can hardly look at these photo’s for the purpose they are meant The OUTFIT. I am just enjoying myself looking at your attempt to shoot the Marylyn pose. They are so funny. The first one is beautiful. And I do like the socks.
You do like the socks? You are so into fashion. I am still hesitating, but getting there…
And I don’t mind if you forget the outfit. Same thing happens to me when I visit a blog and the photos are good. As long as you have a good time.
I love the socks! They look really good. I just bought printed socks to wear under my skirts. And I have said it. before on ig, I love those shoes. They are screaming my name, I swear!
No, I don’t recognize being not kind to my photographer…….pffff??????
Hahaha.. our photographers… l spoke to a few other bloggers and it seems that we nasty women are all the same. We should cherish them instead shouldn”t we?
I DO enjoy your adventures and look forward to each new post.
Thank you to your photographer husband who does a great job even if not his favorite activity.
I am so glad you took the time to tell me this Penny. It is always so nice to get feedback. Especially when it is positive of course. But any feedback is welcome. I will pass the compliments on to Ron.
My last post was on how you make the Netherlands the place to be for fashion and culture.

Love the photos. They are stunning. Well worth the effort. Not sure about the socks not really my thing.
I can so understand that socks are not your thing. Not mine either. I am trying it though just to see whether I can get used to it. Not so sure about that haha.

Sorry.

As always.
