Citytrip to MaastrichtWe were supposed to go to Paris in September for a couple of days. Dog sitter was arranged, the invitation to the big brocante market Chatou had arrived (remember last year?)… and Ron got a kidney stone. Very painful for a couple of days, hospital etc. but fortunately in 5 days he was back on his feet. Only the kidney stone is still there and will be removed in October. You can imagine that he doesn’t really want to go too far away in case the darned stone decides to descend again. Instead of Paris we opted for a 2 days citytrip to Maastricht. This is a magnificent old town in the deep south of our country, 2 1/2 hours drive from where we live (that is far for us Dutch).

Now I have to rave about the appartment we booked. If this bores you, just skip the next 3 photos.

The appartment of Urban Residences is in an old Post and Telegraph building. We booked a maisonette, which means split level. Completely converted and renovated to such a high standard, I wished it was my house. Everything was Alessi (Italian design) and the equipment like dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, all Miele (the best there is in The Netherlands). Nothing was chipped, everything was squeeky clean…. I can go on and on. I give them a 10 out of 10. With a +. We slept like babies in complete silence.

I really shouldn’t tell anybody about this address as we don’t want it to become too popular, but OK, for you guys…

Below: The sitting room upstairs. I will not show the bathroom and bedroom too, but same high standard. Our own house is very colourful and nothing like this minimalistic appartment in Maastricht, but we can appreciate this as well.

Below: We took some shots of the outfit of the day: my trusted boyfriend jeans by G-Star Raw, the sequined sneakers by Essentiel, you have seen it all before and many times. The top is new and bought in Amsterdam at Young Designers United.  Such a great shop. Selling clothes made by young designers (as the name clearly indicates, duh..).

Below: I love the many colours in the top and the yellow/black neckline.

Below: I am ashamed to say but we did a lot of shopping while in Maastricht. It is a lovely town for sightseeing, but no… Greetje hit the shops. Here we are at Hudson’s Bay. They opened stores in a lot of big cities in The Netherlands, filling the gap that our Dutch department store chain V&D left when they went belly up. It is very handy when you have another top underneath your fancy top. No need for dressing rooms. This is much quicker.

Below: I got a big green sweater, but you are not getting to see that until I have styled it properly and made pretty pictures. One outfit per post is enough, right? Signed up for membership with Hudson’s Bay, which entitled me to € 20 off the next purchase. Only I didn’t understand I got vouchers for that. Thought they were advertising leaflets and threw them in the bin. I mean in this day and age? When you have registered? Why bother with vouchers? Why not make a note in the customer database?

Below: Here we go again… busted. All women do this, don’t they? You are only prepared to take your shoes and trousers off when you think the dress will be worth doing that. In this case.. no.

Citytrip to Maastricht

Below: I had spotted these ladies in Hudson’s Bay and when I saw them again outside I took their photo. There were so elegant. They made me feel mutton dressed up as lamb in my boyfriend jeans and sneakers. Maastricht is far more elegant and stylish than Amsterdam.

Citytrip to Maastricht

Below: We had been to Maastricht several times before so we roughly knew what to expect from the different areas. Lovely old buildings, narrow streets, lots of terraces and restaurants.

Maastricht

Below: Walking along from Hudson’s Bay Ron said to me: “I bet you that on the next corner there is a jeweller”.

Citytrip to Maastricht

Below: By Jove… there was a jeweller. Great memory Ron. And they had lovely stuff in their window display.

Which made us go in…. always a risky thing to do.

Below: See what Ron is doing? He is paying. As I fell in love with a necklace by Isabella Marant and wanted to buy it, Ron said: “It will be a present from me.” The owner told us that the husband of a couple before us, did the same. For his wife 50th birthday. Ron decided this present was for my 50th birthday too hahaha. That was some years ago.

Below: No, we didn’t get a discount for mentioning the shop on this blog. It was just a very good shop. Great jewellery and a charming owner, who was honest and discouraged me to buy the matching earrings. Very rare such people. So if you are in Maastricht, pay him a visit. The shop is called Clio.

I should have shot more pictures of the lovely town. You will see a few in the post of next week with more about our trip to Maastricht. The two photos below are not by my hand, but give you a little impression.
