Fashion failures with a big black sweater

Allright….. this post is for a good laugh.

Some people seem to think that I am really stylish. That I know how to put together the perfect combination.
That is not true. I struggle. I try. Sometimes I succeed but lots of times I fail miserably.

Up till now I have shown you mostly my successes. Some of the outfits were put together by friends who are better in styling than I am. Some of them were actually by me.

This time I will show you my struggle with a very old, comfortable black sweater. As big sweaters are in fashion again, I thought I could re-use it. I also still had the long yellow skirt which I bought together with the sweater. (I saw to my surprise it was by Rykiel. Never knew that. Bought it in a tiny shop in Nice.)
And as leather and big sweaters are also in fashion, I got my long leather skirt out too.

We can safely say that it is hard to re-use something twenty years later. I don’t mind sharing my failures with you. As the subtitle of this blog says: live, learn and laugh.

OK…. now for the laughs:

    Thanks Cabellin for your feedback. I am still not sure what to do with the yellow skirt. I am contemplating shortening it. The sweater is knitted so it is too difficult to take the collar off.

    I like it also with the yellow skirt. YOu are tall and stylish and I like how that skirt looks on you.The second outfit with the black and white pant, although I like big chunky collars. I will like that outfit better without the collar and some red ballerina shoes, for going to the shopping mall!I’m Cabellin!

      Aha.. I get it. The necklace was meant to bring more colour near my face, but perhaps it is a bit too much with the big sweater.

    Thanks for the tip. Have not got such a top …. yet. I understand it is going to be very fashionable this spring, so it will probably not be that difficult to come by. Very nice of you to leave this comment. If you plan to do that more often I would like to recognize you, so please leave a (fake?) name?

    The long black sweater swamps everything.With the long black leather skirt, try chunky comfortable trendy ankle boots and a black and white bold, GRAPHIC, simple top that hits at the waist and is wide not fitted. You will look amazing. (I want your skirt!)

    They are not laughable outfits, but I also don’t particularly like them. The big sweater overwhelms you and it doesn’t help that it’s black.

      The black sweater is definitely reserved for lounging about the house.And I agree about the black. I discovered that I have way to much black in my winter wardrobe. I seem to combine everything with black. So safe, so boring.

      I cannot help it Heather. I think I look ridiculous. The yellow plaid skirt is hard to give up, so I have also tried it with a black fitted jacket. That was better but still a bit eighties? I will post that on 40plusstyle Forum.

    Do not think it’s to laugh, you might like more or less, but are sometimes useful solutions. I like the black sweater, I like the oversize, have their moment. Personally, I prefer the outfit with the yellow skirt, I find it nice. The first two outfits do not like much, the first belt, and pants the second I do not like. The latter can also be used when you’re a nun … 🙂 🙂 🙂

    All the items you are showing are made to re-use again. Those printed trousers are fashionable at this moment so I think with a black jacket it will be a good combination with a touch of red for instance. The skirt from Rikiel you can wear with your yellow sweater or your Max Mara orange sweater, I would have to see the colours together. I would wear the first outfit without the belt.I don’t know what to do with the last outfit, because I can not really see the model of the skirt. I would not call your posts failures, but hiccups.

    Over-sized, chunky sweaters are really “In” this season and I normally like them best over a skinny pant and boots (as in your first 2 outfits) but I think this sweater is just too big. Even belted it does not show off your figure. It doesn’t work with the skirts either, IMO. Sorry.I love that plaid skirt. Midi length, plaids, and yellow and black are very on trend but I think this skirt needs to be a little shorter. Even on tall, thin you it is a bit too long. But you will need to find a good tailor who knows what to take off without ruining the line of the skirt. It looks worth doing though. I think somewhere below the knee but showing more leg than it does now. USA Suzanne

    Oh my. The one with the yellow skirt made you look like your legs are 2 inches tall and your torso is 5″.

    The skinny jeans you are rocking now are a million times better than these options. Like you wrote…this is how we learn. That is why I posted my worst looks. I need to remember what totally doesn’t work for me.

    Really changes people’s perception of a person though between looking at you here, as opposed to looking at you with your skinny coated jeans. I think the jeans took 10 years off your age.
