Black poncho, cream trousers

Here we are again with black and white….. According to Suzanne, B&W is going to be a big hit this spring and summer. Boy, am I ahead of things. LOL
This poncho was made by a young designer from Young Designers United (YDU). It is adorned with black Swarovski crystals. A very simple and effective design.

As usual I tend to overdo things like adding a necklace and such. Luckily I hear Chanel’s voice more and more, saying: “when in doubt, leave out the last accessory”. I have to take that a step further and leave out the last two accessories.
I am striving for classic with a modern twist. Not for “more is more”. OK, OK… I can hear you think…. sometimes I do like “more is more”. Call me fickle, I am a woman.

Starting the photos with the best result in my opinion. Which is without a collar shirt and with long boots.
As we go along you will see the poncho with a poloshirt and the poncho with a necklace and patent leather shoes. The latter are really nice, but not in this outfit (too many focus points).

Nicely covering my bum and creating hips.

Of course there is an animal in the pictures. Can you see my cat Sophie, on the right from the brown pot, hiding underneath the bushes?

Above: with a polo shirt.
Below: with polo shirt, necklace and patent leather shoes. Too much.

Hope you enjoyed my journey.

  1. Awesome poncho Greetje! You can create so many looks with it. I especially like it with the boots. I’m a big wearer of ponchos an oversized sweaters in the cold season. I think you pulled it off nicely with your slim figure.http://www.dixiebeauty.com

    1. Actually, so far this is the only look I managed to create…. I am not very good at creating combinations, but getting better.

  2. Black and white always looks amazing and I wish I could make myself wear it more oftenBrett

    1. I wish I could make myself wear it less….

  3. The poncho makes your shoulders too, big, therefore makes your head look small. The one with shirt and jewellery draws attention away from shoulders, and although you think it is too much, I think it is better. Patski x

    1. I have this illusion that people will put my broad shoulders down to the top and not think that I actually have them (which I do by the way).

  4. I really like the poncho! But without the collar, necklace, or patent booties. As Nanne says, it is a statement piece and does not need any extras. Try your white boots in place of the tall black ones. Your legs will look a million miles long and the poncho will stand out even more. I left you a message on the 40+Style Blog under the shoes post. You and I both like Alexander Wang. Here is my new “plan” for my trip to Holland. First, you and I will go shopping for shoes in Antwerp. Then we will go to your house where I will have to sit in the courtyard to sip my red wine because I am now terrified of spilling it inside your house. Apparently you and red wine do not like one another. So I will keep my glass far away. 🙂 But you can entertain me with magic tricks (using your top hat and pink bunny!) while Charlie chases Sophie – after Sophie falls out of the tree of course. And Anja can be there to sketch it all so I can have that scene framed to hang on my wall. Such happy memories! LOL! USASuzanne

    1. And the white boots are summer boots. Cannot use them for this winter outfit.

    2. This is a terrific idea which we have to execute in steps. First we will start in my garden with the wine while I sit at a proper distance but within reach of talking. After we have exchanged lots of details about our lives (probably will take a day or even two) we can head up to f.i. Antwerp. If we do it the other way around we will never do any shopping because of all the yapping. How about end of June? Anja will be back in Holland, Sylvia might be visiting parents then and you can easily book a flight as well.

    3. I will gladly come over to join in in the company and fun AND to sketch the scene;-)

    4. That sounds great! Can I come too?

  5. I like the poncho a lot. I love a bit of structure and it gives me a japanese style vibe (which is a good thing). From these pictures I like the top outfit the best. But I don’t think you have given the booties a fair chance. Wear them as you do the first outfit but then replacing the booties with the booties. Then let me decide.

    1. I will upload your suggestion to the Style Forum of 40plusstyle.com But I am not so sure. I think the trousers are too tappered for the shoes.

  6. Love those boot, wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    1. Thanks. And they are comfortable too.

    1. Thank you Vogue&Heels. We aim to please…

  8. As you already know I am NOT a fan of B&W combinations, but in this case you wear it well. I am also not a fan of huge, sturdy poncho’s (like Marianne), but again: in this case you wear it well. I prefer the first look, with boots and without the white collared shirt underneath. I really dislike these combinations with collared shirts under; in dutch I would call that ‘tuttig’. And please, please….DON’T try it with white boots!!!! Hahaha!

    1. Wow, you like it even with all the dislikes. And I agree with all your choices. It took me a while but I arrived at the same point.

I am sorry I don’t like the poncho because the fabric is too massive. Like it stands on his own when you put it on the floor. Can you tie a leather belt around it You look like spongebob, are you going to throw me out of your circle of friends now. But I still love you.

    1. I’m with you, Marianne, on this one.

      1. Tssss…. ganging up on me, the two of you….. Well, I am throwing out clothes I do not feel fabulous in this year, so this one will have to go….

    2. Darling, you may comment whatever you want. If I couldn’t take criticism I should not be blogging. As long as people are commenting on my outfits and not saying nasty things about me personally, I can really take it.

  10. I actually like the poncho! It’s really a statement item. I would love to see it with jeans, your brown boots and a leather belt for a slightly more casual vibe, I think that might look good:)

    1. I never thought of that Nanne. Thanks. You prove to have great tips. When I tried jeans before, they made the outfit rather dark, which is why I chose cream trousers instead. But if I add brown (cognac) boots and a brown belt I might get a more interesting look.

  11. Black and white is always chic, which is an adjective I would use to describe you. The design of the poncho is interesting and unique, coming and going. Who could resist the crystal details?

    1. Hmmmm “interesting and unique”…

  12. Nice outfit, always a good solution white and black. It’s a bit medieval, but elegant. I prefer it with boots and without necks.

    1. Strange how I seem to have rather a lot of medieval outfits. Apparently I quite like that style (contrary to you haha).
