Summer dress with flowers

Summer flower dress 2
When I was at the seamstress one day, I saw this silk lying there and fell in love. We decided on the collar, the type of skirt etc. and she made me a trial dress in cotton…. Stupid me: when I tried it on I noticed that the waistline was a bit high up, but never said anything. Thinking I could always put a belt around it if I wanted the waist a bit lower.

Well, you cannot. Because if you lift your arms, the material of the wide skirt creeps above the belt and stays there. So the blue/purple waistband was an addition later on. When I discovered the dress was a bit short. Quite an adventure, having something custom-made.

In the last picture you will see, there was another thing we had to correct.

I photographed the dress with three different pairs of shoes. Above you see purple/blue suede shoes, below patent leather blue shoes (also with a purple haze):

Then we also have red suede shoes (as seen in the kimono post):

Below: as I was trying to show my shoes, the cat decided she wanted to be in the picture:

Below: the shoes in close-up:

Below: this is the dress before we altered the front bosom part… Emphasizing it with a big, big red rose was a bit too much in my opinion:
Summer flower dress 7I think that blue patent leather shoes (or blue / purple) are better with the dress than the red ones. Which ones do you prefer?

I agree that the alterations made this dress even prettier, I really like the neckline on this dress – very unique. The pattern and colors is so gorgeous! I do prefer the smaller flowers over the big red flower on your chest. My favorite shoe with this is the red.

    1. Red shoes are the winners. How unlucky that I prefer the blue patent leather ones. LOL

  2. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh You look soooooooooooooooo wonderful in that magic dress, Greetje.
What a wonderful vision you are.

    1. The red shoes are winning the contest. Much to my surprise.

  4. Hey G, red shoes for me as well….Much more fun!
wld you be so kind as to mention their brand? also in your next posts? this will avoid me coming up with the same question every time….

    1. I cannot imagine you want to know the brand each time. There will be shoes you won’t like, won’t there? I will mention it if it is not too much hard work. This blog has to remain fun for me. LOL
The brand of the red shoes and the patent leather shoes is Unisa. The purple blue suede shoes is Di Lauro.

I can’t believe this dress is custom-made Greet……love the vintage vibe of the cut & so lovely you can change the look with those shoes!!

    1. Apparently I have a vintage taste. This kind of skirt, collar, etc suit me best.
But I disagree with you that I can change the look with the shoes. It is all more or less the same.

  6. Great dress and perfect alteration. All the shoes look equally good!

    1. Thanks holiday girl. My seamstress did a really good job.

  7. I saw you in Josep’s post lately and have to stopp by just to tell you that your dress is marvellous. If I would have seen it I would have fallen in love with it too. You look stunning in it.

  8. Sigh. Custom made. The neckline and the collar are perfect. Beautiful print and surface … I like the purple-blue suede best, but then, I like suede any time. Lovely dress, all the way around.
(Sweet kitty-bomb. I have a tortoiseshell tabby that looks a lot like yours.)

    1. The cat is called Sophie (after Sophie Tucker) and is two years old. Custom made is not that expensive with my seamstress. I was happily surprised. Could be that I spend too much on normal dresses anyway, so I don’t notice much difference…

  9. That is a beautifully designed dress.

    1. I have a very good seamstress. And she also knows that the result can be different from what you thought up. Therefore she never protests at any changes. Great woman.

  10. This new version is much better. I like the red shoes I am sorry, that is because of the purple waist part I think I needed that red touch. And I see you had your Marilyn Monroe moment.

    1. I suppose red it is. So far they definitely win from the blue ones.

  11. You can probably guess which pair of shoes I like best, RED, all the way. I think it just makes the entire dress pop. And, what an incredible dress, love the fun pattern especially the neck line both front and back. I do like it much better after the alteration.

  12. The Greetje that I more like, the Greetje of the dresses vintage, beautiful and elegant. This one is beautiful, I love the pattern and the design, with the nice neck and the piece in the waist. I love the area of the skirt, it has a fantastic flight. I like very much in this post . I like the red shoes.

    1. Glad you like it. It would have surprised me if you didn’t. And you prefer the red shoes? I prefer the blue patent leather ones. But it is a close call.

      1. The blue shoes are beautiful, but with this dress, with so much color, red seems more daring.

  13. Lovely dress! And I really like the red shoes 🙂

    1. Hé Claudia.. How nice to stop by and comment. We now have two votes for the red shoes. Did not expect that.

  14. Go ahead and twirl, you look wonderful! My cats like to pose by my shoes too : ) thanks for linking up with Visible Monday.

    1. As long as I wear a slip underneath it. Otherwise twirling is getting risky. LOL

  15. What a beautiful dress! I bet it feels great to wear it. I’m going to break out of the box and suggest you get some green shoes!

    1. What a great idea Val. I love green. As a matter of fact, I bought some pale green short boots for summer (I have a pair for winter too). But no shoes in green. Yet…

  16. Your rosy bosom in the bottom photo is eye-popping! But I like the revised version better. (laughs)
Twirl like crazy in that wonderful dress. Its swishiness looks divine. How can you not look this fabulous? I hardly noticed your shoes – your twirly goodness really holds my attention.

    1. Thank you for your funny comment. It was indeed eye-popping.

  17. Another beautiful dress – I really like your fit and flare silhouettes!

    1. That is a new expression for me: fit and flare silhouettes. Have to look that up.
      Glad you like the dress.

  18. Oh so beautiful!! The print is perfect on you. Just right. All three shoes definitely looks great with the dress….Great job…xo

    1. Thank you very much. And thank you for giving the other shoes (than the red ones) a chance too. LOL

  25. Beautiful design on this dress. It looks fab on you. Good eye to change the pattern on the bodice. I like all of these shoe choices, you have some great options. I would just wear whichever pair strikes your fancy!

    blue hue wonderland

    1. Thanks Ann. I will. After all, the choice of shoes is also a very personal one. Taste and mood. I am surprised that most people choose red. I thought it was too much red in one composition.

    1. Oh goodie… A fan of the blue shoes. Most readers are in favour of the red ones or do not give a choice.
I personally prefer the blue ones too. I have said it before and I will say it again: so many people, so many tastes.

You cat wants to be seeing and the twirl photo is quite impressive.

  36. What a stunning custom made dress. I totally agree you were right to change out that red rose from the front. The band is quite nice. From mistakes the best discoveries are made : )

    bisous

    1. Very true, Suzanne, but it is also those mistakes that make you hesitate to try it again. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
