Shopping in Amsterdam the Nine Streets area – part 2

Amsterdam II 174
Same shopping tour, same clothes, different steps, different street, no scarf.  Great to link the two posts about the Nine Streets by two similar photos. By accident fooks, this was not a deliberate strategy, not a plan.
As you have seen in my previous post about the Nine Streets I was with my friend Helena, who is a sweet and patient friend. Not minding the numerous times she had to wait until I was done photographing.

Underneath the little map again. We continue at the bottom right: the corner of Herengracht and Huidenstraat.Amsterdam II nine streets mapBelow: the first thing we see is Liebeskind at Huidenstraat number 11. They sell trendy leather accessories with an urban look and a underground feeling. Amsterdam II 102Below: next door at Huidenstraat 13, is Gem Kingdom. A Dutch brand, very popular, with exclusive hand-made jewellery combining unusual materials. Sterling silver, gemstones, mother of pearl, cameos, engraved crystals, porcelain, hand-carved raisin and other rare and odd materials.
Amsterdam II 103
Below: Tony Cohen, a Dutch designer, at number 28, sells all sorts of goodies we women like. Check out his website. And in particular that black leather jacket Noelle. The coat on the right in the window below is also on his website. That is… at the time I wrote this post. Remember, the internet is a cursory medium.
Amsterdam II 109Below: across the bridge to the corner of Keizersgracht and Runstraat, we found Local Service, which is the shop of Paul Smith. The shop on the left corner (you can see Helena just entering the shop) is for the ladies and across the road on the right corner you will find mens’ clothes. (No, you cannot see the mens’ shop, it is not in the picture.)Amsterdam II 115Below: the interior of Local Service. This girl was trying on a beautiful green coat and did not mind being on my blog. After she was gone (to contemplate) I tried it on as well, but it did not suit me as well as it suited her, so I left it.Amsterdam II 120Below: Mensocks at Runstraat number 6, for the ladies who want to bring home a present. (See the legs on the bench?) Next door at number 4 is The Darling for a mix of clothing, accessories and jewellery (also vintage). And… for coffee, tea or fresh juices and macaroons, or cupcakes which look like little works of art.Amsterdam II 128The Netherlands are renowned for their flowers. You will find flower shops everywhere. Below: At Runstraat 16 the flower shop is called Gerda’s flowers.Amsterdam II 132Below: I already have expressed my joy in my post about these lovely soft leather orange brogues. Found at Dominio, Runstraat 15. They closed shop in The Nine Streets unfortunately. They used to sell shoes for men and women, all hand-made, and bags. Amsterdam II 133aBelow: time for a street view. I was so proud I made a picture with  a moving subject in it. Beginner’s luck. Or would it have been better if the background was moving and not the bicycle????Amsterdam II 148Below: we walked from Runstraat via the Prinsengracht and turned the corner at Berenstraat. At number 41 is De Glaswerkplaats (Glass workshop). For those who cannot come to Amsterdam in May or September… they sell online. They have nice rings and pendants. Amsterdam II 169Below: I could not resist taking this picture of the shop window of Marlies Dekkers, who sells her famous lingerie called Undressed. Love the window. Berenstraat 18.Amsterdam II 170Below: more beautiful lingerie across the road at Berenstraat 9. The shop is called Stout (translated: Naughty. Which it is, especially their basement…..Oh la la.)Amsterdam II 171Below:  The National Museum of Spectacles at Gasthuismolensteeg 7. If you are into the history of fashion or 700 hundred years of history of spectacles in particular – you must see this small exhibit. It is not only a museum, they also sell old and peculiar glasses.Amsterdam II 182Below: beautiful jewellery at Sas Design, Gastmolensteeg 1. That necklace of transparent green beads … so lovely. I must have been very occupied with taking pictures as I did not go in to buy it. Very good for my bank account I suppose. I am such a sucker for a nice necklace. The earrings are great too, but I need an adjustment: not a hook but a stud and they cannot be heavy as I have tiny and thin earlobes.Amsterdam II 197Time to show another canal. You have not seen many of them in this post, but believe me, the Nine Streets have loads of these views.Amsterdam II 201Below: for the design vintage hunters…. Hermès and Louis Vuitton bags, second-hand. And as far as I can see genuine. The store has got a chic name as well: L’étoile de Saint Honoré. You’d think you are in Paris instead of Amsterdam. They are situated at Oude Spiegelstraat number 1.Amsterdam II 205Below: Shoe{diction (this is no spelling mistake. The { is in the name), Oude Spiegelstraat 3. Mouth-watering.Amsterdam II 216Below: back home. This is what I was wearing that day. Only not with these green high heeled booties but with sneakers. I am no fool haha. (Darned I love these jeans. Quite cheap but a perfect fit. Such a shame I cannot get a new pair.) My hair here is still long(ish) and blond.Amsterdam II 230If you want to read more about shopping in Amsterdam at the Nine Streets or other areas, see the articles underneath the tab Amsterdam (top navigation of this blog).

    1. You have got an open invitation dear. And as you know, in May and September I will have some readers over to do a shopping tour through this lovely canal city.

  2. I love these posts Greetje, I feel as if Im with you. I just watched a program about an American couple who relocated to Amsterdam. I immediately thought of you. I didnt realize Amsterdam had such a huge shopping district.

  3. As usual, I love your photos of the shops. How delightful Amsterdam looks. And I also remember the wonderful coffee and pastries. OK. I have to save money for when I come, and also stop eating for 2 weeks in advance. No problem!!

Much love from Rosemary in England.www. foreveronthecatwalkoflife.blogspot.com

    1. I like your “no problem” haha. Glad you are not bored with these posts yet.

  4. Hi Greetje!

Tks for stopping in and to leave me a comment – I love to discover new blogs – Ah! your city is so, so charming, i was there once in the 80s – We also did some camping in Holland, i can’t remember where but we liked it so much!
I like your style! and you the most amazing taste for shoes and boots, so jealous!
    Great shops in Amsterdam!

    Tks for the tour

    1. I had come across you a couple of times before. And really, I find my taste in shoes and boots is rather conservative. I can think of 3 other bloggers from the top of my head who are far better: Lisa of Respect the shoes (which says it all), Trina of Teatime with Trina, and Ann of Blue Hue Wonderland, only to name a few and do great injustice to the others.

  5. Greetje.
No. I adore these photo tours ,I wish I could travel there. Next best thing…

  6. You know that I am fond of these kind of posts! I usually look carefully the photos more than once…and sometimes think that I would be very happy to live there!! I can understand why you love Amsterdam…I like everything : the streets, the shops, the flowers, and the people sitting in the open air…( but why aren’t they wearing a coat?? )
You look great in these photos and very young! Your light colour coat is very stylish. Your smile is lovable …

    ps
I am going to have a look at your selection of accomodations right now!!

    1. Oh good. That means you might come over. And they are not wearing a coat as it was still rather warm (I took these photos in September). Or they have just popped outside to smoke.

  7. Greetje dear, what a great tour by Amsterdam streets!!!!!
You have such a luck to have good shops……
Thanks so much for sharing this.
And your outfit is lovely for a shopping day.
Yes, the orange brogues are awesome.
And yes, I wish I can go to visit Amsterdam 🙂

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Well dear Nanda, you did Paris….. Amsterdam is not that much further…. Next year perhaps?
And yes I am lucky with all these good shops. Lots of temptation on one side, but also lots of choice on the other.

  8. We could never get fed up with these travel tour posts. You do such a fantastic job, I seriously feel like I’m on a first class tour. You make it look not just like a whole lot of fun but you bring such a wonderful personal touch and feel to your surroundings. My favorite part of your home town are those flower shops. We are not fortunate here to have fresh flower stands and cute little stores like you do.
Glad to hear you’re on my level when it comes to shopping and touring comfort (with the sneakers).

    1. Ah, we are no fools. There is a place and a time for everything. And if you want to do a lot of shopping, you need comfy feet to get some mileage. I have also adapted the American way of goint to the office: flat shoes or boots to walk from car to office (and back). Then take the heels out of your bag (in my case a trolley as I don’t like to carry heavy things when it can ride by itself) and switch shoes at the office.

  9. Another lovely sight/shopseeing tour in Amsterdam. I enjoyed it very much, what a wonderful capital we have, i am speaking like a real patriot now.

Thank you Greetje for your shopping tour of Amsterdam! I know most people do not visit Amsterdam for their shopping but I love that these boutiques do not look like chain stores and offers more unique selections. I don’t think I own a pair of hand made shoes – I am sure they are well worth the price.

    1. The battle of unique shops in town against chain stores is going on though. Don’t know how long it will take untill we have only the same stuff in every town. I dread the day.

  11. You are near so much good shopping! What a interesting tour of places I’d like to go. You are looking sharp in the jeans with your very cool necklace and boots.

    1. You know I pick the best photos LOL. They don’t all look nice. And yes Amsterdam is beautiful. As is Barcelona. I have been in Barcelona for 5 days with my husband, but you cabpn spend years there and not having seen everything. Amsterdam is much smaller.
