Black linnen dress with booties

Black dress with booties (1 van 1)-2In between rain showers, Ron took photos of this black linnen dress with booties. I used to wear this Sarah Pacini dress with flat white boots, but that is soooo over. (As if I care, but still, booties are the thing now and I have them.) When I showed my husband the same outfit with pumps he disapproved of it immediately. He is a modern guy.

The dress is smaller at the bottom, allowing me only to walk like a lady. It has folds and creases as a design, not just because it is linnen. The slit at the back is not centered.

We didn’t have much time, so… what could serve as an interesting background? “Train station….”, said Ron, “…nice… those yellow trains against the black and white of your outfit”.  But we had to dismiss that as the train station is not near our house (dinner was nearly ready and the light was fading). A construction shed will do nicely… thank you. Just around the corner (see photo below).Black summer dress and booties (1 van 8)As we walked a little further (closely watched by the neighbours from behind their front window), we took the picture below. My hair was not very cooperative, but it hardly ever is. Which is why I usually take about 100 photos for each post. Preferably at a place where there is no wind. And then I carefully select the right photos to show you. My hair is a worry.Black summer dress and booties (2 van 8)Below: Ron decided to go “free style”…. and experiment with different lenses. The photo at the top of this post was taken with a telelens and I think it made a very interesting picture. Below: walking along, across the canal, also taken with a telelens.Black summer dress and booties (4 van 8)Below: lovely background with flowers and green. I decided to put a turnip head on instead of my face. I hope you like it hahaha. It is a spare head, courtesy of Melanie at Bag and a Beret. She is an artist. Not only a good one, but also a witty one. She often has me in stitches with her blog.  Especially her online albums Vogoff are brilliant (three of them at the right side of her blog.).Black summer dress and booties (5 Turnip)Below: Ron spotted some more colours and directed me “a little to the right…!! No more.. More…” People stopped trying not to spoil the photo. Most people do that, you know. They are far more courteous than you would think.Black summer dress and booties (7 van 8)Below: sitting down on a very small post…. Luckily I have a very small behind.Black summer dress and booties (6 van 8)Below: (we are nearly there fooks…), a close-up of the brooch. Bought in a vintage store in Cambridge (UK) of all places. Black summer dress and booties (8 van 8)

    1. I am trying to keep my sanity as I am so busy at work. So ai don’t do much extra for my blog these weks. Hopefully it will become better in a few weeks.

  2. I simply love this style of dress and have a few linen skirts cut the same way (that is to say ample at the top and tightening at the hem). Linen has a beautiful flow to it…be it heavier cloth for the colder season, which hangs better, or a lighter fabric version for summer. It creases easily (read immediately), but that’s part of its charm….you can do without constant ironing without feeling slack about it! Bravo, Gretje!

    1. But it did take some time before I could accept the creases LOL

  3. Love the outfit, and those nude boots are perfect for the attire. Gorgeous.

    1. And I hardly use those boots…. So glad they get out of the closet now.

  4. Greetje,
I am in love with this sheath! It is so edgy and modern. I reminds me of Marni or that famous Japanese artist..I am drawing a blank.. sorry I am ill today and my mind is not doing “its thing”.
Ron is a treasure, these backrounds are brilliant! My fav is the one of the upside down boats, and how clever to use the yellow construction site!
I waited patiently, and was rewarded at the end of the post for the gorgeous brooch! I love brooches, and they are under appreciated I think, as a way to dress up an article of clothing.
    Delicious!

    1. I have bought many (many!) brooches at vintage fairs. You would love my collection. As I love your bracelet collection. And bag collection. And necklace collection. hahaha.
Tomorrow Ron is going to photograph a new dress I bought in Italy, but I am getting a bit ill as well. We will see how they turn out.

I love how unique this dress is and it looks great with these booties! I give props to Ron for always looking for unique places to take photos for the blog. I appreciate my hubby for taking photos but some days it’s like pulling teeth.

    1. Hahahaha, but you do wear this husband of yours out. So many posts! I only have one a week.

  6. I LOVE this! There’s a very Edwardian quality to it, isn’t there? Love your styling, of course.
Do you wear it in summer just as is? Wow. Really an interesting and flattering piece.
Lucky you with your great figure … so gorgeous.

Slowly getting caught up … but I have a lot yet to do. I GOTTA figure out how to get around more effectively.
Have a great weekend, Greetje, dear-heart!

    1. Well, I don’t really like the dress as a pinafore, but I want to hide wrinkles, which means tops and sleeves. You are supposed to wear it without anything underneath it. Which I think is nicer. Usually I wear it with a flimsy light basic top underneath it.
And I am glad you are catching up. I missed you but didn’t want to push you.
I think you get around more effectively by “weeding” your visits.
      Greetje

  7. Wow! This is an amazing dress. And it is not something I would normally like, with extra fabric and all, but I LOVE it.

I think the backdrop of the yellow construction site is the best. LOL I can just see you two walking around and the neighbours all staring.

    bisous

    1. I think Ron is getting used to being stared at haha.

  8. Love it with the booties! This is a great outfit…also love the top picture!

    1. Which is why that picture is at the top. 🙂

  9. Yay! To see the Turnip Head – love it. And your outfit too, so chic and elegant. xox

    1. Thanks Patti. I really like the Turnip Head too.

  10. You look fabulous! Ooh la la. Very Paris-chic

    1. Who would’t want to be called Paris chic? Thank you.

  11. Oh I love your dress! I have a black linen dress too which I tend to save for some sort of special occasion and then never wear. I must learn from you! The photos are all lovely and although Ron clearly has talent he also has a lovely subject to photograph. I don’t see anything wrong with your hair but I know that is always the way. Nobody else sees what we see.
    xo

    1. I have learned never to leave a beautiful item behind locked doors. Enjoy it! Life is short. Fashion changes quickly. Wear it as much as possible. Why save it for one or two moments when you can be fabulous with it 10 to 100 times?
Thanks for commenting (and all your compliments).

  12. Greetje, I love the bottom of this dress, but don’t you just feel like ripping it right open when you get home? At least I do when I wear tight-bottom dresses that make me take prissy steps. This looks incredible, the detail is so visually interesting at the back. The telelens photos came out very well. My compliments to Ron again, and to you as his gorgeous model. The vintage pin is stunning.

And hahaha! The Turnip Head goes to The Netherlands. YAY! She has always longed to go there. At last. I hope you bump into Turnip Tete Cecile sometime, Patti’s version. Thank you so much for participating! Your editing is superb. I shall put you on the list.

    1. I did see Patti’s turnip head haha. You do set things in motion, don’t you? The yellow skirt, the turnip heads. You give and so you receive. Must be very satisfying.
And no, I never rip my clothes. You know what to do with it, how to alter it. I would just be stuck with a ripped dress. Besides, I don’t really go for comfortable. Daniela (blog: The Pretty Cute) is even worse. She nearly embrasses discomfort. LOL

  13. Wonderful outfit Greetje and oh the photos so good. Ron is getting better and better! Love seeing you in this asymmetrical (yay!) dress Greetje. And your hair looks good. The blond suits you well! Not sure sure what you’re complaining about. Wait until you see my frizzy hair tomorrow. You’ll be shocked that I would post that! (I may still change my mind though). That picture with Melanie’s drawing is hilarious. Such a talented woman. As usual a great article Greetje!

    1. I don’t know Sylvia, me and the blond hair… I don’t know. I am afraid it might clash with all the yellow and lime which I have and love.
And I know that nobody knows what I am talking about when I complain about my hair. We are our own worst critics.
Your compliments will be forwarded to Ron, be sure of that.
And thank you for the compliments about my post. That is a relief. I was sure it was boring haha.

  14. Your today’s outfit is quite different, but really nice on you! I like your asymmetrical dress and find it is great with those neutral tone boots…Ron took beautiful photos! The second one is my favourite!

    1. Is it? I think my hair looks aweful in the second picture.

      1. Your hair is absolutely ok! I only see a beautiful lady wearing a modern dress! 🙂
And the yellow background adds extra beauty to the photo …

  15. I do believe you and your photographer, (Ron) are having way too much fun. He is doing a fantastic job and really bringing out the very best in you, showing off the natural beauty and fun personality you have.
What a wonderful dress this is! And, I love how you kept it classy by pairing it with a simple white blouse and your modern booties. You are becoming quite the fashionista lady.

    1. Ron says: don’t believe her, she only wants to be nice to you hahaha.
Apparently I am learning from blogging and looking at other blogs (like yours).

      1. Sound like Ron is as funny as you. The two of you must be quite entertaining.

        1. Ron is wittier than me. He has a great sense of humour. Only in this case he wasn’t joking haha.

  16. Those booties look fantastic with your dress, Greetje! I am always hesitant wearing them with dresses and skirts but yours are so elegant and not wide around your ankles and therefore they are a great combination.
Especially the first photo is excellent as it has the blurred background and you are in the focus. Very professionally done!!

Have a good start into the new week,
    Annette | Lady of Style

    1. I am also very hesitant with booties and dresses. Most of the times I don’t think it is elegant. This time it worked.
My husband is far more daring to experiment with our photography. Thank goodness.

  17. Hello Greetje!
I love that pinafore dress, the ruching reminds me of some of Viv Westwood’s designs and the boots add a cool edginess. The vintage brooch is gorgeous.
You’ve got yourself a great blog photographer. I like all the cool backdrops and the first picture with you in sharp focus looks like something from a style mag. xxxx

    1. Hi Vix, lovely to “see” you.
My dear husband doesn’t agree with you. He says everybody is just out to please me and the photos are not good enough… Pfff… perfectionist. My outfit photos have dramatically improved since he got involved. I am scared to death he will stop.

  19. It is so good to see you in dresses, and this one is for sure awesome! I love linen and to see it with such detail is incredible. You look amazing.

    1. Really?? Amazing? I always think it is rather ordinary. But let me not doubt you haha. And accept the compliment gracefully.
