A week ago I took the Friday off and Ron and I headed to Amsterdam. I wore my Max Mara jeans dress but this time as a jacket (versatile piece). (Note: it is actually a Sportmax dress). It is always a pleasure to be in Amsterdam and this time it was especially nice as we visited the jeweller. Yay.
A word about the top photo: Max Mara jeans dress worn as jacket. More photos and details below.
This is going to be a long post again, so I will limit my writing to the comments on the pictures.
Below: former warehouses at Spui which have been converted into appartments. Great place to live, especially when you don’t own a car (right in the centre of the old town). Below: strange building style but I do like it. Also at Spui.
We walked to Rokin and crossed the bridge into a tiny street called Lange Brugsteeg. On the right corner at number 8, you will find a jeweller: Lyppens. This jewellery shop is tiny, their stock immense, their specialties: antique jewellery and silverware. Their service: OUT OF THIS WORLD. I buy almost everything in this place. Or rather… Ron buys it for me. I went there for the first time when I was 28 with my old gold and silver pieces (worth absolutely nothing). They treated me like royalty, no… like a very dear friend. Took all the time and when I said I couldn’t decide, they told me to think it over and not to rush anything. They stole my heart. A lot of their staff works there for 25 or more years, which says it all. Anyway…Ron had bought me a bolsjewiek diamond (= old way of cutting) years ago. It looked antique and I now wanted the stone in a modern setting.
Below you see the result. Totally different from what it was. I am so happy with it. I photographed it on this mannequin as my old hands ruin the beauty of the ring.Below: while walking on wings (well, me anyway) we went back to the Spui and took pictures at the Beguinage. It is useless for me to tell you all about it when I can link to some real info: Click to read about this beguinage.
Below: the entranceBelow: the little church and the houses of the beguinage.
Below: even though the sun came out, it was still cold and I wore my Max Mara fuchsia coat with a blue/gold Anthropologie scarf, gift from my friend Sara. Told you I get lots of presents.
Below: time to have a cappuccino on the terrace of Café De Zwart. And time to take blog pictures.
We met this very nice American couple while taking photos and I asked whether they would mind being on my blog. They didn’t. Bless them. We had such a laugh with them. Clearly demonstrated in the picture below. She was laughing her head off. He keeps a poker face.
Below: oufit details: jeans dress Sportmax (worn as dress here), long cream tunic by Eileen Fisher, skinny jeans Denham, golden boots Hoss Intropia, necklace with teal and golden links: Iceberg (in the sale).
Below: after the photo session we walked on to the Nine Streets, a very nice area of Amsterdam. We passed this bicycle, adorned with faux flowers and a nice plant at the front (a real plant). Looking at the flat tires, I think the person who lives there, rather has this bike in front of his house than somebody elses.
Below: encouraged by Ron (…..) I tried this long orange jacket at ML Collections. But it was really a bit too warm to wear it as a jacket indoors in spring and I didn’t want a coat as fitted as this. I do like the orange though.
Now ….. for everyone not interested in Amsterdam pictures, please go right to the comments (if you want to leave any..).
Below: I love such pictures…. Below: and such doors….
Below: little boats going through the canals….
Below: spring green trees…
Below: a shop with mostly bicycle bells (I bought one as mine was lousy)
Below: let me finish with tulips as that is what we Dutch are known for.
Before I forget, I am going to a blogger meet-up in London, hosted by Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb. Lots of women whose blog I have been following for years will be there and I will finally meet them in real life. Like Annette (Lady of Style) and of course Catherine herself. The event will be held at the fabulous The Imperial in Chelsea.
If you are interested, tickets (£ 45) are for sale on http://www.3040bloggermeet.uk but there are only a few left and they sell fast!!
