A blue pencil skirt for lunch with Carin and Sylvia

Blue pencil skirt

Blue pencil skirtOh yes, talking, talking, talking. I am famous for talking. People sometimes avoid me because I talk so much. Anyway, last Wednesday I met Sylvia of 40+Style and Carin (follow her on Instagram: @catoinamsterdam). Of course it was hell to select an outfit, knowing you meet two fashion belles. I also wanted to twist Sylvia’s arm for taking blogpost photos. As I have been showing a lot of trousers lately, I decided on this blue pencil skirt. Rather formal, but I know I look good in a pencil skirt, so who cares.

We met for lunch at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam. A quaint place with a lovely roof terrace.

Below: 2 photos taken from the roof terrace. Of course it was cloudy and rainy weather. Bummer.view from Volkshotel Amsterdam

We decided to have a drink downstairs first as that had a cosier atmosphere than the roof terrace without sunshine.

Below: OK the photo is too dark. I know. I forgot everything I had learned about photography and just pressed the button.Volkshotel Amsterdam

Even worse when we decided to photograph each other at this dark spot. Will I ever learn?

Below: no … I am not going to make it.Blue pencil skirt

Below: close-up of the shoes. OK, I admit, I did a little smoothing over. My old feet so close up really need that.Red patent leather slingbacks

Below: I was wearing the white one of these rings below. They were a present from Tiffany, a fellow instagrammer. We exchanged only a couple of comments on each others pictures. I liked her rings and she just asked me for my address and sent them. Deeds like this so restore my faith in humanity. rings

We decided the menu wasn’t good enough downstairs, so after drinks we went back to the roof terrace.

Below: Sylvia and Carin sitting with the window and light behind them. For a less skilled photographer like me, a challenge (hate that word “challenge”. Just a word to cover up “problem”). Sylvia and Carin

It was lovely to chat with these women, so the lunch lasted hours.

  1. Greetje;

I am so impressed with your site; you really understand the concept of looking fabulous “effortlessly”!! Of course, we all know “effortlessly” takes some serious thought. I am so pleased with your ensembles that I am now saving most of them to Pinterest for my own inspiration. You also appear to really “Rock your Age”, and have a lot of fun.

    1. Trust me, when I started this blog I never, ever expected to get such a lovely compliment like yours. Thank you very much. It is indeed not without a lot of effort to get a good outfit. I suppose looking at other blogs for a long time and just doing it (with passion I will add), pays off. ?

  2. Very interesting look and style!
    I love your blog.

    1. I am always so flattered when you say such things. As you are a professional stylist and I am an amateur. A very keen amateur, but still.

  3. Hahahaha! – that last photo of you, BEST ever. It shows your beauty and your sense of humour all in one.

What a fun get together it must have been. I think when bloggers get together we really throw our cares to the wind and have fun with photography if the chance comes up. Carin’s poses are contagious! Hahaha.

You do look fab in pencil skirts. Each of you has such a unique and wonderful style.

  4. You seem like such a wonderful, fun loving person, I’m envious of all the people who have posted who know you personally! I love your blog and all your pictures. My only complaint is that you only post once a week! And you have great legs that I envy also!

    1. Hahaha Kathy, don’t forget you fill in the blancs (of my personality) with all the positive things you hope I have. I am just as average and normal as your nextdoor neighbour. I just laugh a lot and I love making other people laugh. Perhaps I’ll be a stand-up comedian when I am retired. Who knows. I will admit I have great legs. It is the one thing I have always been certain of. Strange that I wear so little dresses and skirts. And I cannot post more than once a week as I have a more than fultime job. It is quite an effort to get this post done. But I do love blogging. I hope I can keep you entertained.

  5. YOU HAVE GOT LEGS and GOOD FEET!
NOTHING MORE EXCITING then meeting fellow BLOGGERS and or INSTAGRAM BUDDIES!
LOVE THE PHOTOS and the rings………who needs CAPUTI when you have these ACCESSORIES!!!!!!!!!
    XX

    1. Thank you, but I need Angela Caputi. I love the rings and they match Angela’s necklaces perfectly haha.

  6. Love this pencil skirt – always fabulous on you- and the belt! That really adds alot to the look!
Love the shots of Sylvia and Carin, even if the lighting was not optimal, sometimes you have to go for the shot, anyway!
Love the rooftop shots too, wish there was a pretty sky, but oh well, these are quite nice as they are!
I love the big and modern rings, too!
Great work, you 3 looks fabulous!

    1. It became a long lunch. We left at teatime haha.

  7. I know you love talking ! And everyone loves when you are talking!! Because you have so much joy in yourself ( bad English, I know! But you probably understand what I mean … ) and joy is catching…
    You look lovely and sweet!!

    1. You do know that me being in a skirt is your doing, don’t you? I kept thinking “oh dear, all trousers and jeans, I can hear Dan complain”, haha. You are wrong though in thinking everybody loves me talking. There are people who find me rather annoying or tiresome. Oh well… I cannot please everbody.

  8. Great photos. It seems like you gals had fun. Good for you. I like the closeup of your eyes. It looks like you have the same color as I have.

    1. My eyes are hazelbrown with a big green rim around the brown and specs of yellow. Rather nice eyes if I say so myself. And yes we had fun.

  9. I love to read your blog! I always feel like I’ve been to a party. The final photo in today’s post is my favorite photo of you, ever. Hands down (for those of you who have English as a second language, “hands down” means: without question; for certain).

    1. I hope you had a good laugh over that last photo. I look like an idiot, but it made me laugh as well. And I so appreciate your compliments. Thank you!

  10. I agree both with Dan and Suzanne, we do love to hear you talk (because you’re hilarious, smart, and interesting all at the same time) and that last photo says so much about you, the Greetje we all love! What a fun fun afternoon with those two lovely ladies. And your outfit of choice was absolutely perfect!!!!

    1. I kept thinking of Dan’s words a couple of years ago. She started following my blog because of my dresses and skirts. And all I seem to show these days are trousers. I never knew but indeed I am more of a trouser girl. Even though I do love skirts and dresses. So this one was for her.

  11. It’s clear from the pictures you’re having fun. And being matchy-matchy is fine, I’d rather call it sophistication. That belt is amazing, and just a bit boho, making the pencil skirt look very cool and modern.

    1. Because the pencil skirt is so high, really a bit above my waist, I can lead the eye down with the belt and break it a bit. Also I thought it was a rather boring outfit, so I needed something to jazz it up. The belt has been in my bedroom forever.

  12. These pictures show the delight and camaraderie —it emanates from all of you! And that, my dear, is truly priceless!! It makes our lives so meaningful and brings such joy. (Even to us, that are only experiencing it through you from afar)!
I laughed when you said you forgot all the photography rules. Because as much fun as it is to look back at the pictures, it’s also good to enjoy the time together, and say heck with the perfect lighting, right?
I think having the belt, shoes & earrings be the same color is more of a tie together instead of matching thing (maybe I rationalize that because that’s what I like to do!!) I’d argue that matching would mean you’d have on blue shoes, etc!!
As for your talking—people that don’t like it should go elsewhere! So there!!
    jodie
    http://www.jtouchofstyle.com

    1. Hahaha… I will tell them in future: go elsewhere. No really, I try to be less overbearing or dominant. Gosh if this mouth opens… But mostly I am known for my laughter. I laugh a lot and loud. Thank you for leading me away from being matchy matchy. (Blue shoes would have been a bit boring I think. Depending on the shoe of course.)

  13. These types of posts always make me smile. Carin and her bubbly personality, and you with your quirkiness – I love it. Is Sylvia the more serious one of you three? She seems to be. You all look great!

    1. Yes, Sylvia is the most serious one of us three, but she can let her hair hang down and go wild too. In Vancouver at the blogger meet last year, she danced the night away. Carin is bubbly but also calm. It was lovely to meet up.

  14. Looks like a good time to be had by all! I love the touches of red that you adde to your outfit.

    1. Just the skirt and blouse with f.i. blue shoes would have been boring. I did learn a thing or two while blogging. You do these things naturally.

  15. Oh how lovely! Next time you must visit Arnhem and then I will join you!
    http://www.nancysfashionstyle.com

    1. Arnhem is a very dangerous place. It is THE town for fashion. It would be the death of my savings account if I go to Arnhem haha.

  16. That last photo of you is BRILLIANT!!! It captures all your beauty and humour. I love it!

    Looks like a fun time : )

    1. I wouldn’t say that last picture captures my beauty but I knew it would make you laugh.
And yes, it was a lovely, long lunch.

  17. I love your posts, I get to see stylish women, hear about life in another part of the world and I so enjoy your sense of fun and humour

    1. Thank you Robyn. Sometimes I think my readers might get tired of these stories, but so far everybody seems to still appreciate them. As I love making them, you can expect more to come.

  18. How much fun is this post. I can tell that you enjoyed every minute with Sylvia and Carin. And I enjoyed the moments too. You all look fabulous.

In answer to your questions on Hat Attack, the headpiece that I purchased from Diane Harty was not expensive, relatively speaking. I consider it a piece of art! Also, the headpiece is secured with an elastic which is attached to the hat and goes behind my head and then covered with hair. Thanks for your ongoing support.

    1. If I were to have an elastic band at the back of my head, my hair might stand up and look really funny haha. You have cut your hair to suit a hat. Very wise and very doable with such a beautiful classic face.

  19. I think it’s a wise move to post only once a week. You keep us all waiting for the next fun installments in your life. Your blog content is always top notch Greetje. Thanks for sharing your get together with these wonderful bloggers – what fun you had! A pencil skirt really suits those LONG lean legs of yours. I too love the last photo of you – what a great expression!

  20. Looks like such a good time with friends! I love those silly times with friends where you can let your more “wild” side out! Every grown woman should have a friend or two where she can be inappropriate and feel like a naughty kid again!

    1. I have many such friends haha. Laughter is what I am after.
