Showing this top was way overdue. I bought it last May when I was at the 3040 Blogger meet in London. It is by Hope Fashion UK, a company which I love for its mission, its sustainability, its quality and the fact they provide nice clothes for women over 40. Read all about Hope here. The founder Nayna is a wonderful woman whom I met in person. She makes “wearable and stylish clothes in quality fabrics and fluid designs created for real body shapes and proportions”. And no, this is not a sponsored post. I bought the sweater and I am not getting paid to praise them. Anyway… I put this lovely sweater on while visiting the Givenchy exhibition in The Hague with my friend Marjolein.
Of course Marjolein, who lives in The Hague, was forced to take my pictures for this blog post. She is my friend since I was 21, which makes our friendship 41 years old.
Below: shooting blog photos before we went in. Marjolein was wearing a grey and black outfit. Adding a surprise colour with the purple boots. The cardigan served as a coat by putting the scarf on (the weather was mild).
Below: the outfit without the scarf. Worn with a silver brooch from her grandmother.
Below: and this is how the cardigan works when it is closed. I think it is a sophisticated and modern look. And I bet it is comfortable too.
Below: I was wearing purple with black and white, so we matched very well.
Below: the top has a nice swing to it when you turn. Skinny jeans to balance the volume of the top (and to emphasise my legs – big grin). Suede blue high heels.
Below: the back. My hair was very cooperative that day.
Below: the edges of the slits and the sleeves are gold. The earrings are purple with blue.
Below: to spend the afternoon at the exhibition on high heels didn’t seem like a good idea, so I brought my golden booties. To reflect the gold trimmings of the top. Although this picture is blurry, it reflects the colour of the top better. I know it is blue but it has a hint of green in it.
Below: and a blurry iPone photo of how I wore this top in Summer. It is a great canvas for statement necklaces.
So much for the outfits. We went into the Gemeente Museum to see the Hubert de Givenchy exhibition. The museum itself is worth a visit as it is a very pretty art deco building. The link shows you the magnificence of the Berlage building.
Below: just one example.
As you probably know, Givenchy’s muze was Audrey Hepburn. They were lifelong friends and he designed with her in mind. The exhibition showed many outfits Audrey wore in the movies she made. In the background we could see fragments from the movie where she wore the garment.
Below: the perfect white dress with embroidery from the movie Sabrina.
Below: the black sleeveless dress from Breakfast at Tiffany.
Below: this brown hat looked so good on Audrey. We were allowed to make photographs of ourselves in a booth with that hat.
Below: three ladies each wore a Givenchy hat and took a picture in the booth. You should have heard them laughing and giggling. It was very infectious.
Below: this little girl chose the gloves and a cute cone hat for the photo. She is very serious about it.
Below: of course Marjolein and I tried one too.
Below: yes, it suited Audrey better. Everything suited Audrey better. Very limited vision with this hat though.
Below: talking about hats… gorgeous.
Below: lovely grey number. Perfect for me. Those big pockets can give me the hips I haven’t got.
Below: the dress and the woman who wore it. It is completely flat at the front.
Below: see? animal print was popular in the past too. Look at the belt: the imitation of claws.
Below: a dangerous jacket which will not suit everybody. I like it.
Below: I always love black and white.
Below: did she have size zero? Or zero minus? Such a frail lady.
Below: very Spanish to me. And no, this is not Audrey.
Below: trouser suit. Very hot in the seventies. A bit of a party number: watch the pockets.
Below: black with bright colours…. oh yes, that’s me.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The exhibition in The Hague is until the 26th of March 2017. If you like you can see a little video “behind the scenes” with Hubert de Givenchy and the dresses. In English. Click here and scroll to the bottom.
