Yes, I have been at it again. Not going on holiday to Spain with my BVA girlfriends left me sad and needy. (I know, it is pathetic and a very first world “problem”). After having worked the Monday when I was supposed to be on holiday, I decided against working that week, took the rest of the week off and arranged several dates with friends. This day I was with Marjolein and it was a day of orange clothes.
You have seen this jacket before, recently styled with trousers of the same material, creating an orange suit. Last year I styled this jacket on green leggings with a side stripe. It is a more versatile piece than I initially thought. I will come back to the orange clothes in a minute, as I like to go through the day in chronological order.
Below: Going out to lunch. Although it seems lunching is all I am doing in my life, it is not true. Usually I am at work eating the boring sandwiches I brought with me. I tried normal sandwiches this day instead of gluten-free sandwiches or a salad. It tasted delicious but it was not a good idea.
Below: My friend Marjolein, whom you have seen many times before.
Below: The restaurant is called Jacobus Pieck, situated in the most picturesque street of Haarlem, the Warmoesstraat. This restaurant also has a courtyard, like many other restaurants I have shown you these past 6 weeks. We thought it was a bit chilly and stayed in the little conservatory, with a good view of the courtyard.
After lunch, visiting a shop called Summum Woman in the same Warmoesstraat. A Dutch brand with nice clothes. Not too cheap, not too expensive. That is… according to my spending habit, which, admittedly, is more than average.
Below: Marjolein browsing through the racks.
Below: “What do you think of this top?”
Below: Before you ask, here is a close-up of the cute shoes Marjolein was wearing.
Below: Marjolein called my attention to the trousers I am trying on here: “Wouldn’t they go nicely with that jacket you are wearing?” she said. Honestly, it had not crossed my mind. Hmmm.. they DO look good.
Below: Other side? Yes, still nice. I was carrying a blue cross-body bag, which I had just bought before we went for lunch. We passed the shop on our way to the restaurant.
Below: While Marjolein was making artistic photos (and used that angle for the above photos of me), I tried three sizes of the trousers: my regular 40 (European, which is large), a size smaller: 38, to end up with size 36. Haven’t had that size since I was 16. What can I say? This Dutch brand apparently makes clothes a bit bigger for Dutch women. Or it was just coincidence and these trousers have a lot of elasticity in them. And yes, I bought them. What do you think?
Below: This is the cute bag I bought, but unfortunately the leather on the left side folded, which totally annoys me. I went back to the shop the next day and they took it back. Bought another blue bag, but it isn’t leather. So now I am waiting to replace it for one of Nikki’s cross-body bags. In blue. Nikki is the writer of the fab blog Midlife Chic. She started selling some bags as a service to her readers who liked hers so much, but they are sold out very fast.
Below: Marjolein really wanted to stop by the vintage shop where I have bought many good things: Kat & Ko. She found a beautiful purple tote by MyWallit but hesitated as she already had a purple bag at home. Purple is her favourite colour. Sure enough I got a message from her that evening saying her own bag was really falling apart and she wanted the MyWallit after all. So I offered to cycle to the shop the next day and be at their doorstep the minute they opened. I snatched it up for her.
Below: We found this chair outside an art gallery. Photo moment. Turned out to be a tricky chair. Very lightweight which meant it tilted as soon as you got up.
Below: Our visit to this last shop was very brief. We had to return as my knee was starting to hurt. This is what I was wearing. See the blue earrings of ADOR by Ayesha again? Jeans: Denham, silk top: Bellamy Gallery, espadrilles: Dune.
Below: Close-up of the espadrilles.
Below: This is what Marjolein was wearing underneath her long blue jacket blouse.
Below: One last shot… Marjolein thought it would be a good idea if I played mannequin in the window. Of course, why not? Pulled a matching face.
Next week I will show you a dress for a change. I like dresses, however the knee is still not good enough to wear wobbly high heels. And I like my dresses with high heels. This is a tough year for (my) styling.
