Long denim skirtHow about that? Me on the red carpet with my long denim skirt. It was quite the challenge to descend without looking at the steps. Marjolein, who was my photographer, insisted I looked straight ahead. We were in The Hague and the red carpet belongs to a hotel.

The skirt is nearly a pencil skirt and the fly is off-centre, which corresponds with the slit. You can sit and be sexy without revealing too much. I bought the denim skirt at LAB Women’s Clothing. The brand is 3 x 1, a jeans brand, the skirt is called Charlotte Asymmetrical.

Below: This is me, giving a go at being sexy haha.

I chose the black puffer bag because I thought that a dainty bag wouldn’t suit this sturdy skirt. The sweater is Dries van Noten (link to original blog post). The boots are Officine Creative. Bought them a few years ago and they will last me the rest of my life. Easy to walk on, although I did get tired after walking on them for a whole day, carrying two heavy bags. But that is my choice, so my responsibility.

Below: Of course I had to hug the statue. He is a prop, something to hold on to. The observant reader will have spotted the red bag instead of the black puffer bag. I took off my yellow belt and changed the yellow and black earrings for red and pink ones. An effective easy switch.
The statue is of a famous Dutch writer, Louis Couperus (1863-1923).

Below: We didn’t do a close-up of the red earrings with the pink button, so I cropped a photo. A bit blurry and the black seems grey but it will have to do.

Before we arrived at Lange Voorhout, we walked through the Passage (an old, covered shopping street). I was wearing my new coat.

Below: My long black coat, also bought at LAB Women’s Clothing in Haarlem. The brand is Drykorn. I “had to” buy it as all my coats are shorter than the denim skirt, which I hate. Most woman don’t mind that, but I do. The coat is getting many compliments. My husband paid me a dubious compliment by saying, “Even if I had accompanied you to the store, you couldn’t have come home with a better coat”. Hmmm…modesty is hard to find LOL.

Below: I finally achieved my preferred look. A little bit Victoria Beckham (I hope she is not offended by me saying this). Modern, arty, feminine, put-together and a bit suave. Right, that’s enough tooting my own horn.

Back to the Lange Voorhout.

Below: This is the Kloosterkerk (translation: Monastery church). If you click the link, you can read about the history. The church itself has been spared but the monastery that was attached to it was used as a gunpowder depot and it blew up in 1690.

At Lange Voorhout we looked at a fashion exhibition, celebrating Fashion Week and celebrating the designer Michelango Winklaar. Inspired by his visually impaired mother, Michelangelo Winklaar designed a couture collection that visitors can touch. Normally that is not allowed but with his collection it is. At least when you are in his showroom. At the Lange Voorhout exhibition the collection had to be behind glass as it was outdoors.

That sums up the day.

What happened in my life this week

On Saturday the Shopping Saturday girls met again. For those who don’t know what Shopping Saturday means, it is a WhatsApp group of me and my friends Anke and Sabine. We get together every three months or so to shop, each time in a different town. This time we chose Utrecht, that lovely old town. You will see the result next week.

Sunday was a day of rest which I needed.

I visited the dentist to see about my inflamed gums. The dentist cleaned around the molar in question but it looks like I will be losing that implant molar. It is very hard to clean that spot and as it keeps getting inflamed, the jawbone is deteriorating. Oh well, I have enough molars left.

As I was in Amsterdam anyway, I decided to pay a visit to Aurora, a lamp shop right in the centre of Amsterdam. Last week I wrote I had smashed the tube of the lamp above our table and those tubes are out of production. Anke advised me on Shopping Saturday to try Aurora. Bingo, they had the tubes, so the lamp is saved for now.

Ron and I went to Utrecht to return the shoes I had bought on Saturday (see below). They were too small, which I could have known. You’d think by this age I don’t make such a stupid mistake anymore. It ended well though, I got my money back.

As my outfit was no good on (Shopping) Saturday, Ron took photos of my adjusted outfit that Tuesday (on the blog next week).

The painter came again to fix the damage I had caused to the landing wall. What happened?
Here is the story from the start.
See below the landing wall with comical portraits of Ron and me, a gift from our son-in-law a couple of years ago. We thought it was fun and I hung them up with really powerful two-sided tape…

Portraits to be taken off the wall

Below: The wall after I had taken the portraits down. Yikes.
We were so lucky that our painter had some small paintwork to do on our windowsill, so he also plastered the wall last week and this week painted it. Phew.

The damaged wall

Below: An outfit I wore this week. Very similar to the outfit I wore two weeks ago. Only now the top is black and cream instead of red and cream. I put on a black and white belt, again to elongate my upper body and I added the colour yellow through my earrings and shoes.

Because of a little misunderstanding about the lamp tubes I had to return to Amsterdam and exchange them. Amsterdam is really close to Haarlem, only 20 minutes by train. Driving there by car is murder and you cannot find a parking space.
I decided to use the opportunity of being in the big city to sell an antique gold watch, a so-called cocktail watch (see below).

It was a spontaneous purchase in 2010 and I only wore it 5 times. Now that I need reading glasses it was completely useless as I cannot see the time on that tiny watch. The first shop didn’t want it but told me about another shop in antique jewellery. That second shop only wanted to pay the price of the gold. WHICH WAS A LOT. The price of gold is high, so I got back more for the watch than I paid for it. Of course we are 14 years ahead in time, but I never expected that. It made my heart sing. It was well worth the blister I got from all the walking.

Despite the blister on my heel I managed to buy a pair of boots on my way home. Expensive ones as I had money to burn. Now, let’s see whether they are OK or whether I have to return them to the shop too.

Another happy event was my dinner with Helga (below). As often in spring and autumn when the temperatures are volatile, the outfit choice can be very opposite. Helga was princess-like in champagne colours and tulle and I was wintery in my black leather dress and burgundy boots. Yin and Yang. We couldn’t care less and had a great evening.

Below: I was imitating animals in behaviour and with the noises they make. Like the ones in Zoë’s little book. My reward was a great big smile. Especially my imitation of a sea lion, including clapping with your palms, was a big hit.
