It was my husband who encouraged me (again) to buy these white cowboy boots. I wasn’t so sure. Firstly, I thought the boots would be too warm while wearing summer clothes. And secondly, I thought it wasn’t really my style. Too boho (bohemian).
Daphne, the shop owner of LAB, women’s Clothing, knows me when it comes to clothes and she’s pretty good in remembering what is in my wardrobe. She said “Take them home, you don’t have to pay now. Try them with the clothes in your wardrobe and if they don’t work out, bring them back in three days”. That’s the trust you build when you are a regular (and decent) client.
The boots were great with many of my clothes which you have read in the section What happened in my life this week in this post. I decided they would serve me really well.
This week’s outfit is a black linen dress which has been in my wardrobe for a couple of years. Later in this post you will see four more outfits with these white cowboy boots. All with clothes from my own wardrobe.
Below: Loes was my photographer and we went to an old area in Haarlem where I have been before for this blog. If you still know the outfit I shot there, then you have a magnificent memory. It is in the street where the Frans Hals Museum is.

Below: You might think “What a pretty houses”. Alas, it is all fake. What you see, are the facades of the houses that used to be in this street.

Here is what I found about it on the internet:
“The houses were built between 1608 and 1616 as rental properties for a hospital (Elisabeth hospital). Building rental properties was a common investment for hospitals in the 17th century. Originally, there were twenty identical houses, making the complex one of the earliest examples of large-scale serial construction. Eight houses were demolished in 1906. The remaining 12, together with the Frans Hals Museum (the former old men’s home and later orphanage), create a unique streetscape.
The historic layout of the houses was lost during a major renovation in 1931. The rear section disappeared to make way for the hospital’s expansion. The facades, however, were remarkably well preserved.”
Below: One of the residents put a table and a few chairs in front of their house with potted plants.

Below: At the risk of repeating the same house too many times…doesn’t this look adorable?

Below: As we are repeating anyway, here is a good photo of all the accessories. Two yellow bracelets to match the yellow in the earrings, a pink bracelet to match the bag, and the white in the earrings to match the boots with the black matching the dress. I think I did well.

Below: Across the street from where we took the above photos, is the Frans Hals Museum. I knew they have a beautiful garden/courtyard, so we went in and straight through to the garden. First, I took this photo through a stained-glass window. I mean, I am into photography now.

Below: This is what I saw through the window. Magnificent.

Below: People were enjoying the sun. It was peaceful and quiet.

Below: Bigger overview of the garden.

Below: We walked around and found a water pump.

Below: I held the handle and smiled at Loes with the camera. The bag is a present from Marianne a couple of years ago.

Below: Then suddenly the handle gave way. It wasn’t just for show. That caught me by surprise as you can see.

Below: The necessary photos were taken and as we were leaving the Frans Hals Museum, I saw this carving. No idea what that man’s head is doing at the woman’s feet. Did she just behead him? Is she a sculptor and did she create that head? I think the latter, by the look of the instruments.

Below: Of course, I also took a photo of Loes in her summery outfit. Always cheerful.

The other styling with the white cowboy boots
Here we go. You will see how versatile they are.
Below: Cowboy boots with my Essentiel Antwerp dress, belt and bag. I tackled my next-door neighbour to take the photo. Love it. (Link to original post with this dress.)

Below: Cowboy boots with my yellow summer dress, black and white belt and with a white top underneath. (Link to original post with this dress.)

Below: Cowboy boots with black summer trousers and a polka dot dress. Red accessories to match the red lips on the dress. (Link to original post when I wore it as a dress – never again.)

Below: And last of this series (but more to come in the future), cowboy boots with my leather dress. (Link to original post with this dress and cream boots, which I gave away as they are too high.)

Below: A blooper for your amusement: the photo of the yellow dress, taken from a low viewpoint (which I hate) and me, pushing my belly out. Oh dear.

What happened in my life this week
It started with babysitting Saturday afternoon. Not my granddaughters this time, but the son of my friend Neiske (see below, playing hide and seek).
Neiske wanted to join the fun of the Pride Canal Parade with friends and called in a favour. She is a full-time working single mum and I have so much respect for her. Her son Jacob is adorable but has such a lot of energy, you’d think they’ve put power batteries in him.
But he is soooo sweet, I did enjoy my afternoon with him.

I did three photo shoots this week. Well, actually one I did last Friday with Janna, a friend whom I got to know through Instagram (her account is timelessstyle.nl). We had a jolly lunch at restaurant Eeuwen of the Rosewood hotel in Amsterdam. I’ll tell you all about it next week.
Below: Janna.

When I strolled into town and had a chat with a saleswoman in one of my favourite shops, she was called on the phone. That gave me too much time to look around and I came away with a skirt and a boxy blouse. Paid with my credit card as the funds have run out this month. I really should stay clear from clothes and shoe shops. I am weak in this area.
I have been busy every day, taking photos for my photo ‘assignment’ by Katrien. The first two weeks the assignment was ‘circles’. This week and the next, the assignment is ‘reflections’. I was off to a great start but ‘reflections’ is more difficult than ‘circles’. I am grateful for rain and puddles. Here are five photos I took. Perhaps a bit much but so far I have taken over 200 photos, so count yourself lucky haha.
Below: Houses in the roof of a car.

Below: Windows reflecting in a statue.

Below: Reflections in a canal.

Below: Reflections in a puddle of rainwater.

Below: Reflections in a delivery van.

Below: This photo is what I call “fee work” haha. I saw this heron and even though he was quite a distance away, I was able to take a decent shot.

Below: Another unexpected pleasure was seeing these two swans with their 5 young ones. Apparently, it was bathing time.
I got a surprise phone call from Sylvia (of 40PlusStyle) who happened to be in town and whose appointment was cancelled. We had a lovely couple of hours and she took outfit photos of me (the second photo shoot) in between coffee, chatting and shopping. You will have to wait a couple of weeks to see the result, but here she is (below).

Below: Ron remains the main person to put a smile on your face. He was cleaning the ditch behind his allotment when the plank he was standing on, broke. His neighbour took the photo. He didn’t harm himself but we put his phone is in a bowl with rice trying to dry. Which was totally wrong, we heard from Apple. Indeed, it didn’t work and he had to buy a new one, poor lad.

Below: I ran into Loes, being all colourful, so I had to take a photo.

The third photo shoot this week was with Marjolein in The Hague. We had beautiful weather and were trying to avoid the bright sunlight. It will take a couple of weeks before these photos appear on the blog. Having photos for 3 more blog posts in stock makes me happy. I know I can deliver.
Marjolein made me laugh by sending a WhatsApp message while I was on my way and nearly at the centre of The Hague. She wanted to tell me where she exactly was (the library) and wrote: “I am sitting by the window…didn’t get any customers yet😳”. Hahaha.
We saw the granddaughters again.
And I saw my friend Anja, who now lives in Spain, as she was in the Netherlands. They got two new granddaughters (twins) who were born this week.
That was a happy reunion. We keep in touch through FaceTime but nothing beats meeting each other in real life. Below: Anja looking ever so good. She cut her hair shorter. I like it like this and I like it longer; beautiful curls.

Below: Glorious days in the sunshine on a terrace with a view. Always cappuccino.

An hour before I were to see Anja, I bumped into Misja with whom I had a quick drink.
Below: We were trying the portrait mode on my iPhone.

Below: My outfit for the Friday.
