Leopard blazer with jeans

Leopard blazer with jeans

Last week I wore these jeans with an orange blazer and that was wrong. Wrong because of the proportions and wrong because I had planned to wear the jeans with this leopard blazer and I didn’t want to repeat.

Leopard is ‘in’ again. Was it ever out of fashion? This blazer is very old which shows in the length, but who cares? I am not a fashionista. I don’t have to follow the latest trend. If it looks good on me, it’s fine.
Link to a post in 2013 wearing this blazer. I might not be following trends but you buy what is available (and suits you); trousers have clearly become wider. Gosh, in those days my posts were so much shorter. I still had brown hair and buck teeth.

Digressing again.

Loes took the photos at the Haarlem market. Always busy, always a good background.

Below: We started behind the big Saint Bavo church and as I was posing (first photo above), a couple walked past and came back again to look at me. Then went on their way and came back again. They also made a remark which I cannot remember, but apparently it was funny.

Below: My title for this photo would be ‘at ease’, I love it. The COS jeans are great and go with a lot of tops. The shiny metallic Mulberry bag is second-hand; bought it at a bargain price. The necklace is the illustrious ‘Paris necklace’ (link to the story about this necklace). The top is soft yellow by Bellamy Gallery. Boots are champagne coloured by EIJK.

After the shot he got them back and went his merry way. I love such interactions. If you don’t go out, no such things happen.

Loes and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on that sunny Saturday morning. Everybody was in such a good mood.

What happened in my life this week

Georg and Marla came to dinner that Saturday evening and Ron made Coq au vin which was perfect. The goodies from the market went down well too.

My brother celebrated his birthday on a Sunday and it was so nice to see everybody again. They live in the east of the country; we only see each other on birthdays. Next week I hope to show you a photo.

Been to the wedding of Marita. Surprise. She is with her Ron (same name as my husband) for 12 years and they decided to get married. Unfortunately, Ron is waiting for an operation on his foot. He can hardly walk, the poor soul. But that didn’t dampen the atmosphere. There was a tangible vibe of love in the air.

Below: Doesn’t Marita look gorgeous? Her husband is wearing a beautiful suit too but in my opinion, the man is the canvas for the woman to shine, right?

Lavender dress

Visited Marianne and Marijke joined me. Nice afternoon with coffee and chats. I didn’t take a photo as they both had been swimming that morning and their hair was not photogenic.

We celebrated the first birthday of our granddaughter Evy. One year and she is already standing. Here are a few pages of the booklet Ron created for Evy’s birthday (I only did the technical side of it). The title is “The little hats are on their way”. (You see a hat, a top hat, a cap and a bonnet.)

Pink blazer with blue/purple trousers

Marjolein and I did a photo shoot in Leiden, thinking it would be sunny. Well, it wasn’t. It was cold and windy. Photo shoots in winter are always so difficult. Indoor photos never get enough light to look good (and I haven’t got the lamps nor the skills to improve the light).

Saturday morning we didn’t have hot water. Aaaggghh. No hot water means no heating either. I did some tricks with the central heating boiler, fiddled a bit and it worked again. Only to stop at night. Worked my magic again and got it going. Monday morning I sent a WhatsApp message to our plumber. Three hours later he showed up. He tried but couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I was to take a photo of the display if the central heating stopped again. That would give him an indication of what was wrong. Apparently, he only had to turn up as the heating has been fine since he came haha.

Also, our electrician phoned to say that the lamp we want above our dining table was too hard to find online. He had to go to the brand’s showroom in Amsterdam and order it. He phoned to check whether I agreed with the price.

Ron gave me a huge compliment by saying that he thought I am marvellous with our suppliers. His words: “Who else would get a plumber to turn up at your house in three hours? Or have the electrician go out of his way that much in order to get the lamp?”

It sounds conceited but I admit, that is the one thing I love about myself, the ability to interact with people (I talk a lot) and getting to like me (although not everybody does, of course). The formula is easy: be kind, be friendly, be merry, treat everybody with respect and as far as suppliers go…pay whatever they charge the same day, without questioning. It helps that I know they are not double-crossing me. I am not going to haggle for a few pennies; quite the other way, I tip them. Craftsmen are hard to find, certainly craftsmen you can trust.

Photo Assignment Black and white / contrast

Because of the rain and my painful arm, I haven’t done much for my photo assignment. However, I can show you these.

Happy birthday to Evie, what a sweet book you have and Ron made! I love your pictures; the scenery and your friends and of course, your outfits! I’m with you: forget the trends and wear what suits you.

    1. Of course, I do get influenced by trends. Like with buying new jeans, it is all wide-legged at the moment. You buying vintage most of the time (all of the time?) won’t be influenced. But I do agree, if a trend doesn’t suit you, don’t wear it.

  2. Love the leopard blazer with the denim. And Congratulations to Marita and her Ron. She looks lovely. Your Ron’s children book is very charming.

    1. Thanks Linda. I will inform Marita about your congratulations. She was radiant that day, lit up the room.
Ron is very creative and also capable of thinking outside the box.

  3. Such an interesting and varied post today. Your outfit is great and I love the photo of Loes with the balloons.
Your black and white photos are gorgeous. I am on my phone right now but when I’m home, I want to look at them on my laptop so I can see all the details.
Evy is so lucky to have grandparents create books for her. I was a teacher librarian, and I know how important it is for parents and grandparents to share the love of books with their children. Ron is so creative!

    1. I will tell Loes what a hit her photo with the balloons is. Such a chance.
My iPhone takes really good photos, but I have bought another, light camera, a real one as I think that the quality of for instance those statues (of the panther and her cub) high up the roof, lacked sharpness.
Evy and Zoë have parents who put a huge emphasis on reading books. They have them from when they are born. Reading stories to them is their favourite pastime. Well more for Zoë than for Evy still haha.
And yes, Ron is very creative, very much an-out-of-the-box thinker.

  4. What a lovely post! That leopard jacket looks amazing on you. I think the length is perfect with the shape of those jeans. I just ordered myself a second leopard-print top and am eyeing a third! My late mother had a girlfriend who wore leopard print most days. It flattered her and she liked it and it became her signature look. I don’t think I could pull that off, but I enjoy a little bit of it. Thanks for another fun post!

    1. Like you, I love a little bit of leopard. I have two ancient second-hand belts in leopard and a scarf and this blazer. That’s it. Oh no, I also have ankle boots. I am glad you enjoyed the post. Always makes my heart sing when I read that.

  5. Loes and the balloons…what a great photo!
I grew up with a kids bias against animal prints and metallic shoes ( I’m in” recovery). I LOVE your leopard print jacket…works s well with the jeans…and dare I say the silver boots!🙃
My grandmother had a workshop that did costumes for the film industry in Hollywood ( not as “ glam” as that sounds) several women worked with her who had been apprenticed in Europe and later escaped with their skills and their lives. A regular customer was Ida Lupino…who in the 50’s loved animal prints and metallic footwear ( and on screen a cigarette in a long holder). It was an image, not the real woman… but it warped my kid mind, for some reason….against both. Time to “ get over it”

    1. We all grew up with so many biases, like no black with brown, preferably matching bag and shoes. It is hard to get rid of them. I am still very much matchy matchy even though I know it makes an outfit less interesting. So hard to shake it.
By the way, my silver boots are champagne coloured. I do also have them in silver. I adore metallic shoes. And white boots; probably because of my fascination for cheerleaders.
I looked up Ida Lupino whom I vaguely remember. Of all the images I saw, one was with a cigarette, one with a cigarette in a holder and none with leopard print haha. That one image of her burnt itself in your brain.

  6. Okay what I meant to say is, and this is JUST MY opinion about the leopard.
Please ❤️ Don’t ever say ‘what is in or not in?? ‘

Girl….if YOU ARe WEARING it? Then facts….it it’s IN.
    Done. END of conversation.

Seriously, who the actual fk cares what is ‘IN”?

You are a girl who understands your basic frame, you have respect for style and class. But you also have a tiny touch of peacock (hence why the blogs)!. And that’s fantastic.

I think what I’m trying to say is, it’s YOU who is setting the rules my lovely.!!!
You have a shine, a sassy hip angle, and a dropped shoulder of confidence.

There’s only really two questions with fashion.
    1) do I feel good?
2)is he still pawing away at me when Im trying to sleep 🙄 lolol

If both answers are yes. You simply. It doesn’t get better x

    1. Hahaha…you made me laugh out loud when I read your comment. And you are absolutely right with everything.
Thank you for the many compliments. Much appreciated.

  7. I get a lot of refusal here. Just fyi often I post and it says you already posted (no).

1)Anyway, I, was trying to say that Greetje….how does that sound to an Englishwoman? Can you tell me phonetically?

    2) Please forward our best wishes to Marita. I love your comment- ANY good man knows he is the blank canvas/springboard,/support structure to his other half. Seems like he understands that. She looks supernatural in that lovely outfit and I wish them every happiness. Bless them

  8. So I keep getting told lately, by my friends’ teenage kids all out wearing MY vintage low rise Y2K skinny flares. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Bless them, bowling around like the cool kid in the style that most of US already did and put in the loft 😂

@ Elaine So the leopard print thing. I don’t think it ever came in and it never went out. And if it did either…um…do you GaF because I don’t lol.

You know though, when I see leopard print in ENGLAND specifically, it gives a different vibe from Europe. Google Pat Wicks lol

    1. Fashion comes around and around SarahJane, although usually there is a slight difference in the style when it comes back. The abbreviation GaF is funny.
I googled Pat Wicks and I see what you mean. We used to have a bit of a common woman in Amsterdam who was famous and always wore leopard clothes. All over. That didn’t help the leopard fashion.

  9. That’s a perfect outfit. That jacket will make a few more, I’m sure. I went back to see the jacket when you wore it for the first time and that made me like the current photo even more. That wreath you bought is correct for every season; it can hang on your door anytime and make a statement. Is it made of fresh items or artificial?
Ron is quite a story teller and artist. The book is adorable. Evy will treasure it.

    1. Actually, I hardly wear the blazer. It is kind of definable. Yes, if you do go back so many years, you can see that the fashion has changed. No more skinny jeans although they might come back in fashion. The wreath is made of fresh items, so it will wilt. Doesn’t matter; it is nice while it lasts.
Ron is indeed very creative; he can think outside the box, which is something not many people can.

  10. That photo of the reflection in the puddle is both quirky and beautiful!

    1. See?? Ron said I should leave it out. Which I ignored haha.

  11. Love the outfit, Greetje! Leopard print is a perennial in my book, and the blazer fits you so well. And I always love seeing the “Paris necklace” make another appearance. (Reminds me of such fun times!)

What a lovely market; I’ll have to time my next visit for market days. 😉

    1. I know you regard leopard print as a neutral and I agree. The Paris necklace made for a great story haha. I can still picture us in that shop being totally hypnotized.
Let’s hope the sun shines on your next visit. This particular market is always on a Saturday. There is a smaller one on a Friday.

  12. I think that leopard never goes out of style. I have been wearing my pieces for at least 15 years. The wreath is beautiful. I would have that one on my door year round. Maybe just change the ribbon for spring-fall. Your photography is great. You are inspiring me to maybe try taking photos of places beyond my garden.

    1. The wreath won’t last a year Kathleen. It is created with fresh stuff and it will wilt.
Taking photos beyond your garden has a few advantages. You descover things you’d otherwise never see, because you are focussed on a nice picture and you look around and up. It will take you on a walk; always good for your health. And if you are anything like me, you get to chat to people on your walk which brings joy.

  13. Loes with the balloons absolutely fabulous! So genuine. Your outfits all of them excellent. Ron is so very talented on so many levels and it is wonderful he shares his skills with everyone. Your personality is what makes me look so forward to all your newsletters. The houses reflections a winner! Thank you Greetje for just being you an sharing yourself this way.

    1. Ahh…how sweet of you to say all that. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. The fact I share so much is just because I am an extreme extrovert. I love storytelling. And yes, Ron is very creative, very much a man who thinks outside the box.

  14. What a fun post. I really liked the photos and the outfits. Have a great week.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post. It is so good to know that my posts are appreciated.

  15. Oh so much to think about in this post, I couldn’t contain myself to just one thought.

What an amazingly chic wedding dress. Marita is stunning. The first thought that came to mind was — that’s the most elegant wedding dress I’ve ever seen!

Second, I didn’t know that length of jackets had gone out of style. It looks up-to-date to me and the perfect length for you.

The balloons matched Loes’s outfit. What a charming encounter with a passerby!

I’ve taken to cycling to a shop every other Sunday and buying myself a bouquet of flowers. Eucalyptus with similarly colored flower and berries is brilliant. I’ll try it next week.

And finally, thank you for reminding us weekly of the value humanity and community. An especially important reminder given the dark clouds over those of us in the US.

    1. Your first sentence…absolute same!

    2. That is such a lovely comment you wrote. Thank you very much. I agree with you on Marita’s wedding dress. It is indeed stunning.
I have no idea how I remind you of the value humanity and community, but if I did, it pleases me a lot.

  16. This week’s outfit looks both stylish and comfortable. I don’t think leopard ever really goes out of style. You have reminded me of a leopard shirt/jacket that I’ve kept for many, many years. I haven’t worn it yet this winter, but now I’m inspired to try it with a new top that I bought just yesterday.

    1. That’s one thing blogs are for. to inspire. I am glad this post did. And indeed, my outfit was comfortable.

  17. The black and white photos are brilliant!

    1. Gosh, what a big compliment. Thank you. I don’t regard them as brilliant, but I gladly accept your take on them haha.

  18. Where to start!!
You look great in your photos!I did notice the leopard jacket was a bit short but with your body it’s ABSOLUTELY FINE!
Flowers are cheap when you mentioned the price!!Love the shot with your friend holding the balloons!Plus the people coming back to look at you during “photo shoot!”It’s GREAT to get interaction these days!Childs book is ADORABLE!

    1. Oh you liked a lot in this post. That pleases me no end. Thanks for the compliments. I will pass the compliment about Evy’s booklet on to Ron.
