Baggy jeans with an eyelet blouse and Shopping Saturday

Baggy jeans with an eyelet blouse

Baggy jeans with an eyelet blouseI am trying to avoid using my new jeans in every new blog post, but you might have to excuse me. These days I am dressed in jeans most of the time.
I combined the baggy jeans with an eyelet blouse from my wardrobe and silver boots. (Link to original post with these jeans.) After I saw the photos, I didn’t like the outfit anymore. Just as I didn’t like the combination of these jeans with a new pale green shirt, which I had on Saturday two weeks ago, when I was out with the Shopping Saturday girls in Utrecht. Annoying, so we didn’t photograph the outfit that day.

Because I had to return the shoes I bought that Saturday, Ron offered to go with me to Utrecht and take outfit photos for the blog. Ever so nice of him.

Subsequently this post is split in two. First you will see the photos Ron took of my outfit and some sight- seeing photos and after that, my day with the Shopping Saturday girls. A lengthy post.

First part of this post with the outfit photos

Below: The first photo Ron took.

Below: I tried to nudge my hair back into the shape I like. Windy day. See the smart heel of these EIJK boots? So comfortable.

Baggy jeans with an eyelet blouse

Below: Here is why I don’t like the outfit. There is too much emphasis on my non-existing waist. This styling makes me broad (quite an achievement with my figure) and it makes me too straight up and down. The belt might have something to do with that. I will have to style better. I know I can but I am having a slight “problem” with the boots I want to use.

Below: The Dom tower, the five years renovation is completed. Read more about this iconic church. Apparently, it needs a big renovation every 50 years. It is on UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1254 as a Catholic church, it changed to Protestant in 1580.

Second part of this post with the Shopping Saturday shenanigans

Below: Here they are, Anke and Sabine. Of course we started with cappuccino and cake. My life fulfilment LOL.

Anke and Sabine

Below: Walking to the centre from Utrecht station where we met, we passed some market stalls where Anke found this hat. When you pull the strings the ears on the hat pop up. Anke has two little girls and she bought them one each. They loved it.

Anke with funny hat

Below: Sabine wore a designer coat which I love and Anke wore the stylish blazer coat she bought in Amsterdam on another Shopping Saturday expedition. Her trousers are from kpa.haarlem. I am not the only one who frequents that shop LOL.

Sabine and Anke

Below: We went shopping to honour our name.  Anke contemplated this bright pink cardigan but decided she would go for the jumper (sweater) in the same colour. I would do too as this is sooo my colour, but the jumper has a wide boatneck. Although that is very much my style and I have many jumpers with a boatneck, I am trying to avoid them now as I am getting a very cold upper back in winter.

Anke in pink

Below: Sabine was smitten with these boots. I thought they were gorgeous on her but she said they were rather tight with trouser legs inside of them. And that was the look she was after.

Sabine contemplating these boots

Below: Anke with a cosy jumper. I think she bought it or was planning on buying it. Not sure.

Anke trying on a cream jumper

Below: A denim shirt with frills. Totally up Sabine’s street, but it stayed in the shop.

Sabine trying on a denim shirt

Below: Anke tried this denim jacket and we all thought it looked great.

Below: Sabine in another denim shirt, a darker one.

I didn’t try anything and I don’t think Anke or Sabine bought anything. Well, Anke bought socks and I bought another bra with briefs.

We did try a couple of more shops but nothing was good enough. We are spoiled of course.

Below: In the shop where I bought my silver skirt last year, Anke really liked this bag. She said she doesn’t really have a proper bag. To me, the “bag lady”, that is unimaginable.

Scenes from Utrecht

We walked through Utrecht, from shop to shop, had lunch, had coffee and chatted and chatted. All in all, a beautiful day.

What happened in my life this week

Ron and I met my brother and SIL to bury mum’s ashes near the place where she spent many happy years in the south of the country. The weather forecast was terrible, but mum took care of that from above. We had no rain, only sunshine. After saying goodbye to mum for good we all went for a coffee and reminisced. My brother and SIL went on to a place they rented for a week and Ron and I drove on to Antwerp for the night.

We had a great place to stay, went out to dinner and the next day we did some sight-seeing and shopping in Antwerp. Lovely break. You will see photos of it next week.

Not much else to report about this week, but the post is already quite long, so you’ll probably don’t mind.

Below: Just one more entertainment item, a video of Watson, relentlessly digging for mice. He never catches one. The person you hear laughing is our dog sitter Willy. Watson is crazy about her.

I’m not sure this shape of jeans is quite you, Greetje, but I know it’s boring to wear the same shape over and over. Great pics from Ron!
I love seeing you and your friends hanging out, as they remind me so much of my own dear friends.
It sounds like your mum did look out for you, to give you sunshine while you said your goodbyes.💕💛

    1. Well, I bought the jeans, so I will do my utmost to style them. I found some good options already. They are very comfortable.
Like you, I love my friends.

  2. Well, it seems that I have been able to recover my subscription to your blog, although with a different email. I love your shirt, it looks perfect with jeans, a very neo-rural look. With the white jacket the look is very nice. As always, beautiful photos. Utrecht, the photo with the canoe, is fantastic. I am in love with Venice, now I should visit Utrecht.

    1. I am so pleased you are “back” on my blog. (Also see my email).
The outfit is not my favourite, by no means. I think I can do a lot better but thank you for your kind words.
And, although I made the comparison Utrecht-Venice myself, that comparison is rather exaggerated. Utrecht is so much smaller, there are only a few canals like this. I don’t want you to take a trip to Utrecht and be disappointed.

  3. Lovely photos as usual and it’s always fun to see and read about shopping with friends. Love the Watson video! Such an enthusiastic digger!

    1. Watson is enthusiastic about many things. Going up to strangers to get cuddles is one of them.

I enjoy your colorful styles! I especially love the silver belt and adorable silver boots. The Netherlands is such a beautiful country!!!
      Watson is so cute❤️❤️❤️

      1. I am very glad that my blog can amuse you. The main goal of it is to entertain and make you smile (or perhaps even laugh).

  4. Hi Greetje, so I am going to give my humble opinion, seeing that everyone else has :). I loved these jeans the last time you styled them with a simple, fluid, well-cut black top and black narrow belt with an interesting tie. The jeans were the star of the show, how they should be. Now there is too much interest on top and on your feet fighting for attention IYKWIM. This is fun, I hope you also find our amateur analyses fun too :).

    1. You might be right but I think the main thing that is wrong is the belt. Fortunately I bought a pair of blue leather boots to wear with these trousers (they are getting more expensive by the minute haha). That will solve the attention seeking at the feet.
As for analyses, no problem, different people, different angles, it can all lead to more insight.

  5. Always enjoy your blogs and the photos.
I love the jeans but to me the belt is wrong. Darker needed. I have a silver belt and every time I try to wear it it looks unflattering. Makes my waist look bigger than it is – never good.

    1. I totally agree with you. The “pain” is caused by the belt. I can wear it, but for instance when I have a blazer on and the whole belt isn’t visible.

  6. So I am going to comment on your dog, Watson. Hilarious! But that’s just in his nature. The photos of Utrecht are beautiful, and I checked…not on the itinerary of my trip in late March. Looks like such a fun shopping day with your girlfriends…and very minimal purchases . Sometimes that’s just how it turns out. Still ,coffee and cake are a great start. I really like Anke’s shoes…very cute and comfortable.

    1. Those minimal purchases are a first, I can tell you. We are called Shopping Saturday for a reason LOL.
We all have multiple pairs of trainers in our wardrobe. Comfort has taken over from high heels.

  7. Hello! The thing that immediately struck me about the outfit is that it is “blousy” on both top and bottom. I’m certainly no fashionista, but when I dress myself I enjoy having the top and bottom be opposite. Close fitting on top? Go with baggy jeans on bottom. Blousy on top? Skinny jeans to the rescue. It’s the only fashion “suggestion” that I can remember.

What a lovely group of friends. Your group always looks like you’re having so much fun, and to be able to shop in such beautiful surroundings is a dream of mine.

    1. I agree with what you are saying, only at my age close fitting is no option. It would show all my lumps and bumps. I think the ‘blousy’ on top isn’t blousy enough and it should be a big sweater/jumper. I will try again.
The Netherlands is a good country to shop but of course, so it Rome, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, London etc etc. Old towns just give that bit of extra.

  8. I don’t think the outfit is bad. Our shapes are our shapes. But if you wanted to create more of a waist, what about a fitted jacket or blazer, hip length, with a nipped-in waist, or a cutaway hem? That might give more the effect you’re looking for.

I hear you about boatnecks! I love the look but I get cold in them too!

It was fun chatting with you this week.

    1. I don’t know whether a fitted jacket or blazer would go with these jeans. I think they are more the sweater type of jeans, but I will try. You never know. And I don’t necessarily want to create more of a waist but I do think the proportions in this styling weren’t good. I will try, try again.

  9. I agree with your assessment with jeans and shirt. Our builds are very similar, and I just fi d it hard to look chic in that combo. Much better with a nice tee shirt or sweater on top

    1. I wasn’t aiming at “chic” with this outfit, but I guess the blouse sort of is chic. Normally I like a juxtaposition but in this case, it didn’t work. I will continue styling and hopefully better.

  10. Hello You

I agree with Paula, those jeans are definitely ‘off’, they just don’t fit. Baggy is fine, but the actual fit has to, er, fit! And Bette’s right about the shiny boots too.

Okay, critical critique over, onto the good stuff, like that lovely denim jacket Anke didn’t buy. She should have, it had her name on it! And Sabine’s denim shirts that also didn’t leave the shop. A shame, but it’s a wise shopper who knows when to walk away.

How typical of your Mama, bless her, to work one last magic spell for her family, to arrange nice weather as you said goodbye. I hope she – and you – have a giggle at my first thought on seeing the photo of the monk reading: seeing his gaunt face I reckoned that he’s the Grim Reaper looking in his book to see who’s next on his list!

    Have a good week.

    Gee

    1. I bet the monk would be devastated if he could have heard you think about his appearance haha.
As for the critical stuff, I know baggy isn’t your style and I haven’t done the jeans justice. Working on it dear, although I guess you’ll never like them.

  11. Your hair looks really good in these photos. Your friend Sabine reminds me of pictures of Jacquie Kennedy, similar face shape. Like Jacquie, Sabine suits the classic cuts in clothing. Lovely looking lady, but then all your friends (and you LOL!) are nice looking. Sounds like a lovely little trip you had with Ron.

    1. Believe me, if my hair looks good, I have backcombed it just before the photos were taken haha. Sabine is a great stylist, she really knows how to dress. I thought Jackie Kennedy has a much rounder face than Sabine.

  12. The photos of Utrecht with “just another side street” are beautiful. So peaceful. I love the eyelet top and jeans, but not the boots and belt. I think it’s a texture thing — too shiny and smooth. IMO, the outfit would be great with a simple pair of white trainers. As always, your friends (and Ron) are amazing and fun.

    1. I haven’t tried white trainers yet, but I will and I bought a pair of boots which I think, will work. The belt makes that area of my body seem broad, so I shouldn’t have changed the belt from my original styling idea. I’ll get there and I still like the first styling with the black jumper and orange boots.

  13. Morning Greetje, I’m certainly no fashion expert, but when I saw the baggy jeans on you it seemed to be the cut of the jeans that are a bit off. Bit too baggy around the hip area.
Love the printed red top on you!
    Cheers Paula ☺️

    1. I let you in on a secret…I even bought them a size larger than normal so they would be baggy LOL. I like baggy, just need to style them better.

Hi! Just to say I love reading your blogs! However I do think maybe the reason you are not happy with your outfit is that the jeans are far too baggy on you, sorry as you say you like them, but maybe try some more styles or wear them with a more fitted top – cardigan??
    Best wishes

    1. Thanks for your comment. I have to say that I like baggy jeans on me, but these are quite straight and a bit masculin. A more fitted top I have tried but didn’t work (apart from the fact you’d see the muffin roll LOL). Cardigans I never wear, the same with turtle neck tops. For some reason they don’t please my eye when I see my reflection in the mirror. But I will continue to style these jeans so you will see them again in the future. Hope you like them then.
