Wide blue skirt with a green jumper

The above photo shows a lovely picture of my wide blue skirt with a green jumper. I found this a tricky way of styling.

I bought the skirt in Newcastle when I was there in 2019, meeting Nikki (Midlifechic blog), and featured it on the blog in this post.

One sunny Sunday morning I styled this outfit and thought it was a shame I didn’t have a photo shoot planned that day. I asked Loes and she was available. Yay. Lucky me.

We did the photo shoot at restaurant Meneer Frans which you can reach through their own front door, but often also by walking through a luxury interior decoration shop called Van Duivenboden. The restaurant is situated in the garden of the shop and named after one of the original shop owners to whom the customers referred to as Mr. Frans (Meneer Frans in Dutch). I like that link.

We chose the restaurant because it has a secluded garden with no wind. And it was a cold, cold day.

Below: The coat hangers at the restaurant. Fun.

We started with lunch (I can recommend them, good food and they also have an escape room).

Below: Just before we sat down for lunch, Loes took a photo of my black coat in the garden, a second-hand Salvatore Ferragamo. I was not wearing my hairpiece and I hadn’t ‘done’ my hair before the photo was taken. Very much reality.

Below: The ‘head-to-toe’ shot. The styling is tricky because my upper body is short and my waist is only an inch high and pretty wide. A full skirt like this looks best on a woman with a tiny waist.
I could have put on a belt, like I did the first time I styled the skirt in 2019, but I forgot. Anyway, this is the best shot.

Below: I did a twirl to show the wideness of the skirt and the diabolo heel of the boots. The jumper by Essentiel Antwerp is green at the front and baby blue at the back, as you can see. When I came home and saw the photos, I realised the jumper was pilling. I sorted that out, but after the shoot…sigh.

Below: My close-ups are never photoshopped, but often they are flattering because of an angle or because the hair is just right. The one below is the one that tells the truth. This is how I look in real life. No hair piece but I did just backcomb my hair. I call this ‘my potato face’ but I don’t know why haha.

The shell necklace is an old one from a collection which I showed in 2013; 15 chunky necklaces. I don’t wear them much anymore, but I still like them. They will be back in style, mark my words.
The blue bracelet is a present from my friend Marjolein.

Below: See? The angle of my face is different to the one above. Creates a face I prefer haha. Such a nitpicker.

Below: Let’s not forget Loes. She was wise and said “Take a photo with my coat on. It is too cold to take it off”. Hahaha. She was right.

Below: For some architecture, here is the Stadsschouwburg (Haarlem’s city theatre). Built in 1914 and renovated plus extended at the back from 2003-2008. I like how the architect has blended the new in with the old. I have featured the theatre before (in this gorgeous post) but it looked so good, that I am repeating it.

What happened in my life this week

Busy, busy, busy and at the same time boring. With the exception of Sunday when Marjolein came up and did a photo shoot with me. The weather is still cold and/or wet with an occasional day of sunshine thrown in. Which means it is hard to plan a photo shoot. And I don’t have much time between grocery shopping, laundry, taking care of Ron and walking the dog. Mind you, neighbours of us who have two dogs themselves, do take Watson with them almost every day, leaving me with only one hour of dog walking at the end of the day. I am so grateful. He is a hunting dog and needs a lot of exercise.

Below: Watson searching for mice. In some areas there are a lot of mice (at least I think that is what is hiding). If we are in a park with mice, most of the time I only see his butt. His nose is in a hole and he is digging his way in. Never catches them.

Below: A few photos of a dog walking trip. Are they spectacular? No, not at all. I am only taking you with me on my boring dog walking trip. The first one is the sun going down, second one is the reflection of a branch in the water, third one is the lake in the distance and the fourth one is a promising leaf bud (there is hope for spring).

Ron and I are getting into the routine of things although I forget a lot too. Most days we spend in harmony but we can also be on each other’s nerves. And no matter how many times he says “Don’t move my arm up when you pull the sweater cuff over my hand….”, I keep doing just that.
The career test which I did when I was 18, was excellent. Every caring profession was dismissed. I have great respect for all who can and do.

This blog post is rather boring as nothing exciting is happening in my life. But I know you will be grateful that at least there is a blog post every week.

Happy Valentine’s Day if you read this in time. May love have found you.

I love your big full skirt with the white boots, and I agree that chunky necklaces will definitely have their time again soon, Greetje. Sorry I haven’t been around much, life has been busy, as you know. This is how it goes.

    1. Well, I haven’t been around your blog either, so we both are busy.

  2. A nice combination dear Greetje, at first sight I thought: a bit unusual..but at the second I thought that fits…and I like the pics of the houses.
Have a good time and all the best

    1. A jumper with a fancy skirt has become mainstream these days. Glad you liked it on second glance.

  3. Beautiful skirt, I love the color, the fabric, and the volume. With the green sweater, the outfit looks really original and pretty. In the photo with the black coat, I love two things: the coat, it’s gorgeous, and your natural hair, it’s so beautiful. You know I love your close-ups, and the more natural, the better. I would never call that photo “potato face,” I would call it “beautiful reality.” I love the scarf and the Loess hat.

    1. I will tell Loes.
And if you want reality, you should have a look at my Instagram account. I took a selfie this morning and posted it, with rotten hair and no make-up haha.

      1. Sorry, I haven’t had Instagram for a while; I’m actually away from all social media. But I’m sure I’d like your reality too.

        1. I will put that close-up in the next post haha. And you are right to stay away from all social media.

  4. I would kill for those boots

    1. They will look great on you…in prison haha.
Really, they are not that hard to find.

  5. I love that skirt and it looks great with the white boots.

I also enjoyed your dog walking photos, especially the first one and the one with the lake in the background. That looks like such a peaceful place to enjoy nature.

    1. White boots are my favourite. Even when they were totally not in fashion. It probably remind me of cheerleaders. As a young girl I thought they were the bomb.
We have many places to walk the dog in our area, all good.

  6. I am a cat person, too, but we had a rescue dog, supposedly my husband’s, Stella, for 9 beautiful years. While I did not like the last walk of the night in the dark (just quick one before bed), I adjusted and embraced Stella’s sweet personality and goodness. Watson may be Ron’s dog, but you are Watson’s fur mom. I am sorry to point out that you rarely say a nice thing about Watson, and in a time of Ron’s need, you seem annoyed rather than sympathetic. Is this the real you? The pictures are lovely, and you have pretty places to walk. There are positives here. If this comes off as negative judgement, I apologize. But I do know dogs, and cats, can pick up the human’s tone and attitude. As do spouses.

    1. I love Watson to death. I don’t like the mess he makes and the fact he seldom listens to me and pulls the leash. But he gets lots of cuddles, sweets, walkies and sweet words from me too. I just don’t like dog walking. This morning when the temperature was mild, there was no wind and the sun came out once in a while, it was lovely.
But thank you for the wake-up call. You are right that Watson will pick up my grumpy mood. I will better myself. I hadn’t thought of that. It is a good thing when people hold you a mirror.

  7. I love winter and we’re having a doozy in New Hampshire. But, the little bud in the last lovely picture made me smile. I’ll be ready to move on this year!

    1. We haven’t had such a cold for such a long period in years. I already thought that climate change was moving the Netherlands to being the next South of France. So, I am very ready to move on this year.

  8. What a fun skirt! I remember that sweater, it’s such a nice combo. BTW, I think your hair looks fine in these photos.

I really like your dog-walking photos. They evoke the quiet, calm beauty of nature that’s always so restorative.

    1. My hair does like fine in these photos….freshly backcombed, every hair in place, no wind haha. Not really reality.
You are right about the restorative power of nature. I’ll continue taking dog walk photos then.

  9. Greetje you continue to inspire me to search out creative buildings in my own part of the Pacific Northwest USA. This weekend , my daughter and I had a fun weekend together. We attended a fiber fest that was held in a very artistic hotel. The lobby and hallways are filled with glass art. Each of the 20 floors is a mini gallery as you open the elevators. You would love it!
I also loved your skirt this week.

    1. That fiber fest sounds amazing. So nice you could enjoy it with your daughter. You want someone to share all the Ohhhs with, right?

      1. You guessed that! Plenty of yarn squeezing and admiring the work of fellow knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers. Everyone was sipping wine and Valentine cocktails as well.

  10. What a pretty outfit. I love that skirt so much. Thank you for showing the theatre. I too admire the blending of new and old as it creates such a striking building. I’m glad your neighbours are helping with the dog-walking, and here’s hoping Ron recovers full mobility.

    1. I am hoping with you Cynthia, but I am afraid it might take a while. Not the healing of the wrist, but for the dizziness to go away. He has a mild concussion.
Meanwhile, our neighbours who walked Watson once a day, leaving me with only one hour to walk him, are going on a week’s holiday. I hope they will enjoy themselves. Think of me, twice a day in the freezing cold.

  11. Love the skirt…but I have a lot of envy because I’m just too short to carry that one off! I LOVE the coat! As someone who has lived and adored four Weimaraners, two pointers and an standard poodle (also created as a breed to hunt)…I totally understand the need to keep them exercised…but love them so much!

    1. You are right, I might not have the tiny waist but I do have the length. It is always something, right? The coat was a lucky find at a premium second-hand shop.
Ron was the one who wanted a dog and who would walk it. I am just doing it in emergency cases, like now. And if the dog needs to exercise a lot, I will give him that, his wellfare is always top of the list. I am a cat person though. Fits my lazy personality.

  12. I’m fascinated by that two-toned sweater – it’s very pretty and looks good on you. And the dog walk pictures are peaceful and lovely. Thanks for posting every week – I always look forward to your posts !

    1. The two-toned sweater was a sales find at Essentiel Antwerp a few years ago.
I am glad you enjoy my posts. It is nice to create something which people enjoy.

  13. Happy Valentine’s Day, Greetje! Your skirt is beautiful! I love the Watson walking photos. It’s raining here as well. Have a calm and lovely week. Kathleen

    1. Thanks Kathleen. I will certainly have calm week. Not sure whether it will be lovely as it is going to be very cold and the neighbours who took Watson for a walk once every day will be away next. week.

  14. Love the skirt and jumper. Gorgeous photos. Hope Watson had fun searching for critters!

    1. Thank you Sally. I’ll tell Loes you said the photos were gorgeous.
Watson always has fun when he can run around off the leash.

  15. Happy Valentines Day Greetje! Love the outfit and you always look wonderful with or without the hairpiece.

    Cheers!

    1. Remember I only show you the good photos haha. Not the many bad ones. I am an average woman (with an obsession for clothes) not a gorgeous model.

  16. I like your necklace. In style doesn’t matter. It’s what looks good with the outfit. I think of my jewelry as a collection.

    1. You are absolutely right. Only sometimes certain jewellery can date. But styles always come back.

  17. Really enjoy reading your blog Greetje, even when you think you’ve had a boring week! I totally agree with you about looking after husbands. Mine just had keyhole surgery on his knees – I hope it will stop the irritability – otherwise he’ll really have something to complain about! Just kidding! Hope you’ve had a nice Valentine’s Day. Xx

    1. I sniggered when I read your comment. Fingers crossed that the keyhole surgery will help.
Usually we don’t bother with Valentine’s Day. This time, he got up from his chair, went outside for the first time in three weeks and bought me a lovely bouquet of flowers for Valentine’s Day.

  18. Your skirt outfit is gorgeous! My waist is like yours,a thin line around the middle, but bigger than I’d like; I tend to avoid full skirts for this reason, but having seen your outfit,I’m going to try again – thank you for the inspiration!
I love the modern extension on the theatre – such a simple idea,so beautifully executed.
I’m also glad I’m not the only person living a boring life atm; I’m in the UK,and it has barely stopped raining since Christmas – my garden beckons, but will have to wait till it dries out.

    1. I agree that the skirt is gorgeous but I think it works best in summer with a thin top and a belt. Glad I could inspire you even though I hesitate to like it myself haha.
The upside of living a boring life for a while is the joy we’ll get when the weather gets better again. No highs without lows. Just hibernate for a while.
