Oldies but goodies creating a different outfit. You have seen every item many times before and this time the brown jacket and brown jeans form a new combination. Brown and pink go well together, ergo the pink ankle boots by EIJK. To avoid my pitfall (matchy matchy), some yellow earrings. My green bag creates a link to the green in the shirt. Quite a few colours in one outfit but I say, they all go together.

Marjolein came to Haarlem on a dreary day. We went out for the photo shoot when the forecast said it would be dry for an hour. One hour? For Pete’s sake!

Below: Many photos will show a sky which is half blue and half (dark) cloudy.

Below: It is as if Marjolein did the photo assignments of my friend Katrien too. She saw the puddle and took this photo. A creative mind is such a joy. As it was cold I wore my brown braided leather jacket as well. That thing proves to be a golden move.

What happened in my life this week

My brilliant cobbler had a shoulder replacement in December and was out of the running for a couple of months. He is healing well and already working a couple of days a week. I had some boots that needed his TLC and brought them by. As his shop is near, I stopped at Marianne’s house for a cup of coffee and a chat.
Below: Marianne.

Marianne

Below: From one of our elderly neighbours across the road, we received this spring bouquet. Mind you, she is not much older than I am.
Reason for these flowers? Because we invited her and her friend for drinks and snacks on New Year’s Eve (changing of the year) they thanked us by giving flowers for the changing of the season (21st of March). Isn’t that sweet?

Flowers from our neighbour

A family in our neighbourhood had a new baby boy (third child). Ron saw them going into the house with the baby and called me with an order to get flowers for them. I disputed that. I don’t think you want to cut stems, search for a vase and later, throw away dead flowers when you are as busy as they will be (and exhausted no doubt). So I went for a little gift. As I was on my bike anyway, I stopped by the bike shop to have my pedals replaced by less slippery ones. And buy a new bell.
Hopefully, I won’t fall with my bike anymore due to slippery leather soles on slippery pedals.

Below: The beads that I wore with my bright pink cardigan had rubbed off on my cardigan. Black stains around the neck. The dry cleaner got them out, and I decided to set the colour of the beads with a varnish spray. I was pretty pleased with myself for coming up with the solution how to do that.
I wrapped some tinfoil around a wooden meat skewer (to stop the beads from falling down) and planted the pins in an unused flower basket. That way I had access to all surfaces. Marcella is going to restring the necklace.

varnishing beads

Had to do a lot of administrative work for Ron. Boring and time consuming but OK, it had to be done.

Marjolein and I ventured out on another photo shoot on a gorgeous sunny day. You will see it in two weeks.

Below: Even though some days it was bloody cold, Haarlem looked as if it was splendid spring weather with all the daffodils that the council had planted through the whole city. A sea of bright yellow.

Daffodils

Now that the dog’s paw has healed and Ron can drive again, life resumes its normal pace and we can visit the granddaughters again. And Nicky, of course. Her husband Randolf is usually at work when we are there during the week. He said “I don’t need extra help; just be there for my girls.”

Below: Reading to both girls to quiet them down a bit before their midday nap. It worked for Zoë (3 years old) but on Evy (1 year old) it was wasted. She went to sleep 2 hours later. Evy was intrigued by the loose skin of my neck and kept pulling at it.😂🤣 That kicked vanity right out the door.

Granddaughters

After visiting the granddaughters, we picked up Watson at Georg and Marla, stayed for a drink and a snack and headed home. We had French fries for dinner. After 8 weeks of cooking, I was ready for something easy.

I love all the photos you post and I especially love the outfit. I think I have the same exact green purse is it made by Louella Grey. I especially loved the pictures of the hat shop. It brings back so many memories of me learning how to make a hat. I must admit it wasn’t easy but I remember my Mother and Grandmother wearing them proudly to church on Sunday. The pictures of you with your granddaughters are precious. I’m so glad Ron and Watson are doing much better. We have finally gotten rid of all our snow and my crocuses are finally popping up no sign of the tulips yet. Take care keep posting and I’ll keep reading.

    1. My green bag is by Essentiel Antwerp. Such a bag is a great addition to an outfit, isn’t it?
I am impressed that you are a hat maker. That is indeed, not an easy craft. You must have been proud too that your mother and grandmother wore them to church. It is quite the acknowledgement.
Wishing for you and me that spring is now definitely arriving. I long for it.

  2. I love the outfit and all of the photos, especially the puddle, and how the yellow and green pansies call back to the colors in your outfit!

Glad to hear things are getting back to normal, and I hope you’re able to enjoy some nice weather soon.

    1. I imagine you don’t have many puddles like this where you live. At least that is an advantage of all that rain.
I am hoping for nice weather too.

  3. Greetje, you look wonderful. I love everything about this post; your outfit, the photos, your weekly update and the gorgeous shot of those sweet grand daughters. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Oh goodie…I hit the jackpot again with this post. Thanks for the compliments. When Marjolein and I went out for that hour in the wet weather, I doubted a little bit whether the outcome would make for a good post. Just goes to show, you never can tell.

Thanks for another delightful post. And what a well-done photo of your granddaughters — we see everything we need to see to appreciate them, and their privacy is protected too! Well done!! And I envy your luscious brown braided coat. I hope you congratulate yourself for buying it every time you put it on — it’s stunning, and it looks so good on you.

    Have a good week

    1. The credit for my granddaughters’ photo goes to my bonus daughter with a big thank-you.
I will admit that I do congratulate myself every time I put it on (which is often). What a great find.

  5. Love all the photos…from the eye closing dog (looks like a sweet boy we lost about fifteen years ago) to the granddaughters…and of course all the clothes and then the hat shop!!
Oddly, Matchy Matchy was the rage when I was in high school … odd because it was the late 1960’s and away from school we dressed like bohemian slobs. Once “matchy matchy” is in your dressing soul, its there to stay. I also think the very precise suits we wore in the early 90’s was a big influence as well. BTW…I never thought I’d have a second run in life finding flared jeans that worked on my short body. If you shortened them, you lost the best part of the flare…if you didn’t take enough you were dragging them by the hems through the rain. My ex husband was shocked at how short I really was without my very high square boot heels.

    1. In the late 1960’s there were also women dressing matchy matchy, especially our older sisters or mother. For me, it is the explanation they gave to that, which is still in my mind. “Usually you cannot afford to have a bag matching your shoes as it is so expensive, especially when it is another colour than black”. So, for me, matchy matchy meant you were comfortably off. As we didn’t have much money when I grew up, it was something I aspired to.
Funny that your ex husband was shocked at how short you really were haha.
Good luck in finding the right flared jeans.

  6. Love the brown outfit and it goes so beautifully with your leather jacket. The green bag and yellow earrings really pop!
Great photos with the puddle reflection, the sleeping cat, your friends, and of course, the granddaughters.
All those daffodils remind me of the year I ordered 100 bulbs from the Netherlands. In the autumn my brother-in-law helped me plant them all around my house. In the spring only one came up! Turns out the squirrels ate all those bulbs. Sigh.

    1. Oohhhhh….what a shame of those bulbs!! And what a waste of money and effort. Never knew that squirrels eat flower bulbs. And then that ONE flower coming up, as if to laugh at you.

  7. My grand daughter absently picks up the loose skin on the back of my hand while we are snuggled on the sofa reading books. She asked why my skin doesn’t fit properly. I am in the process of deciding that growing old is a privilege that not everyone gets to enjoy and I can model to my grand kids that I am literally comfortable in my own skin. But she also delights in choosing my outfit from my suitcase including coordinating underwear, clothes, shoes, jewellery and lipstick. I may be wrinkly but I’ve got style 🙂 thanks for continuing to inspire me to take care with my outfit choices and have fun.

    1. What a little stylist your granddaughter is !!
Being wrinkly is no big deal when you’ve got style. Style is ageless. Kudos for you.

  8. Brown and green are two colors I’ve stopped combining—a matter of color quirks, I suppose. But looking at your outfit, I think maybe I was wrong, because this ensemble suits you so well. The jacket is adorable, and the striped sweater is lovely too. Your earrings and the pansies look fantastic, especially in this lovely urban setting. The hat display is absolutely spectacular. The wrinkles on your face are a symbol of beautiful maturity. Your photo with the two girls is absolutely adorable.

    1. Looking at the colour wheel, matching brown with green should be no problem. (Not that I look at the colour wheel much…)
I thank my lovely bonus daughter for taking the photo with the two granddaughters. She knows I love posting a photo, even if it is without revealing their faces. I understand her concern completely. I feel very rich when I look at that photo.

  9. Love, love your sense of humor about “age.” I’m there also but I’m on the inside looking out and don’t have to look at myself much, from the outside, lol. Really enjoy the pictures of your city and the gorgeous surrounding buildings and flowers. Keep up the good stuff!

    1. True, we are all on the inside looking out. The devil must have invented mirrors haha.
Thank you for the compliments and I will keep the posts coming. It is my hobby and I only have this one hobby.

  10. I love the way that you manage to get such sweet photos of your granddaughters without revealing their faces. I also enjoyed your visit to the hat shop. I love hats, but don’t wear them as often as I should.

    1. My darling bonus daughter is so kind to take the photos of me with the granddaughters. She knows I like to share them on the blog from time to time and she manages to take a cute photo without the children’s faces visible.
I have bought about 4 hats in that shop when I went through a hat phase. Wore them all once. I am not a hat person.

      1. Haha! Yes I went through a phase of really wanting to be a hat person. I bought a lovely beret that I wore once.. but knowing me I will forget that phase and try it all again one day.. I also tried to be a “white linen in summer” person but that wasn’t a success either !

        1. Hahaha, funny. Usually I don’t learn from my fashion mistakes either, but hats I will never try again.

  11. Greetje, such a lovely post, as usual! Thank you for sharing your part of the world.

    1. As Marjolein and I did the shoot, I thought it would come to no good with the little time we had and the rain. But apparently it didn’t turn out too bad.

      1. The photo of you reflected in the puddle is genius.

        1. With a big thank-you to Marjolein.

  12. Oh that hat shop! I live in the desert, lots of sun! I’m not fond of sunscreen, so I wear a hat almost everyday. I would have had a ball in that shop. Thanks for sharing your stories with us!

    1. It would be a bit too much to travel to the Netherlands to buy a sunhat haha.
And it was my pleasure providing the stories. Thank you for reading and commenting.

  13. So many wonderful photos today! The puddle photo is artsy, the architecture photos are interesting, and your photo reading to the girls grabs my heart. So nice to see Marianne’s big smile and your and Marjolein’s outfits are very becoming.

    1. Compliments all around, thank you Sharon. And the photo shoot was done in one hour. Sometimes that is all it takes.

    2. Many compliments, thank you very much Sharon. I must be doing something right.

  14. Hello, You,

Great outfit again this week; I really do think that casual-chic suits you best. See, no matchy matchy doesn’t half work!

Drooled over your pics as usual and I’m sure you heard the “Aw, sweet!” when I reached the photo of you reading to Zoe and Eve. My two greatgrandchildren love books as well and HAVE to be read to every night before bedtime.

Don’t mention wrinkles! I’m finding new ones every day and loose bits too, all over the place (sigh). I’ll need a sack soon to cover me up!

What a lovely floral thought from your neighbours, and yours about the new parents. I’m sure the baby gift was very welcome. Marianne is looking very well, so are you and your cobbler is on the mend after his operation. Yay!

    Have a good week

    Gee

    1. I know, I know…no matchy matchy is better. It is just that when I grew up matchy matchy was the rich way of presenting yourself. I cannot seem to shake it.
Don’t talk to me about loose bits…Evy plucking the loose skin of my neck was quite confronting haha.

  15. Good morning, my Friend! I enjoy reading about your weekly activities. My daffodils are blooming too. Many years ago I bought a very large bag of daffodil bulbs and planted them around or house and in our community’s shared landscaping. Seeing them bloom year after year is the best part of Spring!

    1. What a rewarding bunch of bulbs that is. I wonder how many years they bloom.
