These white sock shoes which I got from the outlet won’t be to everybody’s taste, but I love them. They are the right kind of shoe to give an outfit a modern touch. The white cropped blouse jacket with orange trousers prove that to me. The trousers are an odd length and I would normally wear them only with high heels. And those heels are gone. These shoes fill the gap.

Link to the original post featuring these trousers and matching jacket and high heels. Gosh, that fabric creases.

Loes and I were doing the photo shoot on a hot, hot day. Wearing orange felt appropriate as our soccer team (football, as we call it in the Netherlands) was still in the World Cup games. No idea if they still are when you read this.
Have you seen the insane amount of people in orange clothes flooding the streets in America, shouting “From left to right; from right to left”. It makes me giggle.

Below: What a pity. We had planned to go to the ruins of castle Brederode but it was closed and we couldn’t get near enough to take a decent photo.

Below: Time to photograph Loes in her cute dress. Perfect dress for warm weather. I think she was saying something as I clicked, but she couldn’t be bothered to redo the photo. She is not like me haha.

Below: Feeling very happy. The necklace looks like gummy sweets. It has four colours, each one joined to the next colour by a piece of metal. The colours are yellow, red, purple and orange. I choose to put purple and orange at the front, then added yellow earrings and a green bracelet. Why not?

Below: The sock shoes are great in warm weather (no blisters and air streaming through the shoe). You probably will see them many times.

We did rather well for such a hot day and not being able to use the chosen background of the castle.

What happened in my life this week

I tried to get my stiff neck solved with a massage but that didn’t help. The three times a physiotherapist tried to solve it, didn’t help either. Now I will consult an osteopath but she is on holiday and I won’t see her until the 13th of July. I think this stiff neck is holding me back with my posture course. We’ll see.

On Sunday we walked Watson in a park and saw that the restaurant was open (it is usually closed). There was even a wedding going on. That was the second wedding we witnessed in a week. The waiter told us it was a marriage in haste as the dad was terminally ill. Happiness mixed with sadness.

Wedding in the park

We took two plates with Niçoise Salad to our neighbours a few doors down as the husband had gotten a new hip. They helped us a lot when Ron’s wrist was broken, especially by walking dog Watson, so I didn’t have to that twice a day. Other neighbours had brought us plates with food too. We thought it was a nice gesture and forwarded it.

Then my car got a flat tire and needed a new one. And Watson split his toe nail again, now on the other leg. And again he had to be operated. Look at his sad eyes below. Don’t worry, the red you see, is tape. And he is very cheerful again. He looks different as he has been to the dog groomer.

Below: It might be hot in the Netherlands (36 degrees C) but we have a house with high ceilings, awnings at the back and air-conditioning in the bedroom. Heat is not a problem in our house. Every morning when I look through the French doors into the garden, I feel so rich and happy.

Below: A little video of our garden.

Below: I also made two collages of plants blooming at the moment. I might become a gardener after all.

The rest of the week I tried to move as little as possible with the heat and luckily, the hairdresser had air-conditioning.

  1. Good morning from a hot and humid Ottawa.. I love your garden and enjoyed seeing so much in a small area…beautiful for morning coffee! Someone definitely has a green thumb! The orange capris and short top are lovely and your sock shoes are interesting.. Are they leather or a cloth material! After a new hip I now have to choose my shoes carefully and it’s taken me a while to get used to flats but have found a few brands that are not only comfortable but stylish! Forget those god awful Birkenstocks! Not for me! That house in the park…well one can only dream! Stay cool in your heatwave!

    1. Our friend and neighbour Froukje is the one with the green thumb and my husband knows a thing or two about gardening too. Once every two years a gardener comes in to do the big work like pruning the big tree. Shoes that are comfortable and stylish (and a bit flat) are not easy to find.
I grinned when I saw your comment on my white sock shoes…”interesting”. Are you English by any chance? At work we used to have a piece of paper with three colums. The first column read: “This is what the Englishman says”. The second one read: “This is what the Dutch think he means” and the third: “This is what the Englishman actually means”. Interesting was a word on that list hahaha.

  2. It’s good when we realize how fortunate we are. Glad your house is built to withstand the heat! I agree with Yvonne on the brilliant outfit.

    1. Realizing the small (and bigger) good things in your life, makes you very happy. The heat went down today and will go down further next week. Thank goodness for that. Thank you very much for the outfit compliment. As I said to Yvonne, I never expected the outfit to get much cheer.

  3. Love hearing your voice and seeing your beautiful very full garden, now I want a pair of orange pants too – your outfit is great

    1. And you know, those trousers have been in my wardrobe forever without wearing them. I only wore them that one time with the matching jacket for the blog post.

Love the outfit – perfect! So cheerful. And your garden is lovely! I love your humour and posts.
    From Vancouver, BC.

    1. Oh…what lovely and sweet compliments. Thank you very much Marilyn. I am always grateful (and surprised) that my humour comes across.

  5. Your garden a lovely, a quiet. peaceful, place to spend lots of time. Coffee in the morning, a glass of wine to end your day.

Orange is your color, those white shoes look good on you.

    1. I am taking my coffee in the garden in the morning, but no wine at the end of the day. I don’t like wine. I don’t like alcoholic drinks at all really but give me a coffee liqueur or a cocktails (especially pina colada) and I am your woman.
Orange is definitely one of my colours, as are most bright colours. The white shoes are saviours.

  6. I love your outfit, fresh and fun, I wouldn’t change a thing. Your garden is a lovely oasis. We have Catalpa trees in Wisconsin as well as some of the flowers you have in your garden. I recently saw a chiropractor for ongoing neck pain and was amazed at the difference afterwards. I hope the osteopath works for you

    1. I like Catalpa’s because they only start to have their crown in June, which means they don’t block the sun in spring when I want to try and get a tan (from 4 to 5 pm) and they give shelter when it is hot in summer.
If the orteopath cannot help me, I will visit a chiropractor.

  7. Greetje, Orange is one of your colors! You look like summer! What a lovely garden! I could sit there all day. There were 35,000 fans in the photo that I sent you of Kansas City. There was also the large orange bus. I’m wondering if that was shipped to the US for the games? Have a great week. I hope that your neck improves. Do you have a small hand-held massager?
    Kathleen

    1. Oh yes Kathleen, that bus has crossed the ocean and arrived in Texas; it took 4 weeks at sea. The 35,000 fans weren’t all Dutch, you know that, don’t you?
I sat in our garden for a long time this afternoon. The weather was gorgeous, just the right temperature with clouds (so no burning sun) and the smell of the jasmine was divine.
My neck will hopefully improve but not before the 13th of July. I cannot help it but I grinned when I read “Do you have a small hand-held massager?” Sorry, I have a mind like a cesspool haha.

I LOVE THOSE SHOES — you must have a good outlet! Trousers also just right, and I love the neck-lace (literally) too.
The flowers are beautiful and one doesn’t need to be a gardener to enjoy a garden, because Nature is very forgiving and resilient. I’m getting more and more out of just sitting in my garden as I get older, or walking across the little park behind our home and smelling all the flowers and herbs.

    1. Oh great, a sock shoe lover. I think you either love them or hate them.
Like you, I am enjoying nature and our garden more and more. This afternoon I just sat there, doing nothing but enjoying myself and smelling the jasmine.

Love the view of the garden through the French doors. The orange bus is currently in our city (Kansas City) and we are loving it!

    1. When I came down one morning and opened the French doors, I felt a sort of a wave of happiness go through my body.
I have seen that the people of Kansas City love the orange festival vibe haha. I bet there are more Americans than Dutchies in an orange shirt.

  10. Such beautiful photos and I love your shoes! Poor Watson looks so sorry for himself – hope he is back to normal quickly.

    1. I think those shoes will either have lovers or haters, nothing in between. I don’t mind, I cannot please everyone so (as the song goes) you gotta please yourself.
Watson is lively again, sometimes walking on his 4 legs and sometimes on 3. We watch him closely.

  11. I love the outfit. Orange is one of my favorite colors, and the top and shoes look great with white. The whole look is very current and modern. I’ve seen videos of the Dutch fans following their World Cup team around the US, and they are very enthusiastic! Finally, your garden is absolutely beautiful with the shade trees, flowing water, and so many plants. I love how natural it looks, not formal at all. I look forward to reading your post every week!

    1. Thank you very much Terri, for all your compliments. We wanted a bit of a wild, natural garden and that’s what we’ve got. Unfortunately with lots of weed in between as well. As I cannot distinguish weed from plants, I am not allowed to pull anything out. But this afternoon my husband did a bit of gardening and out came the weeds. The Dutch are indeed very enthusiastic and since a singer came up with this stupid funny song “To the left, to the right” and the Orange bus was introduced, they went crazy.

  12. What a brilliant outfit xxx

    1. Oh wow, I didn’t expect such high praise for this outfit but I gladly accept it. Thank you.
