Despite my dislike of styling with stuff from my own wardrobe, I put in the effort, resulting into this outfit with a pair of my new shoes. I call them my Daisy Duck shoes which gives you an idea of how much I disliked them when I saw them for the first time. “How ugly”, was my first thought. But…knowing that I have a terrible frumpy taste in shoes, I listened to my friends who were with me at the shoe outlet and who were raving about them.
You might think “I love all your shoes and boots; what frumpiness are you talking about?”
Well, the help of friends and shop owners, all with styling skills, is why I wear nice footwear. If it was solely up to me, you would cringe.
The pebble coloured trousers you have seen before in this post and in this post. The length needs a little heel, not too much, just a little bit. The Daisy Duck shoes have such a heel as you will see better further down.
Marjolein and I walked through the familiar areas of The Hague after our first aim, a rooftop terrace of the library, which turned out to be a big disappointment.
We just started to walk.
Below: On our way from the station to the centre, we came across this mural in honour of Chuck Deely, a rock musician from Detroit. He played blues rock in the streets of The Hague from 1996 to his death in January 2017 due to a neglected flu, 62 years old. He was famous in The Hague. I have linked to his Wikipedia page but that is in Dutch, so you will have to use Google Translate.

Below: Here I am at Plein (= Square), seated on one of the benches. Plein is a big square, filled with terraces and surrounded by magnificent buildings. Alas, they are still renovating one of the largest buildings.

Below: We passed this big building which used to be a posh bank that closed in 2017. I couldn’t take a better photo as there wasn’t enough distance in the street.

Below: This was the bank’s entrance. Love it. I love the way they put bars in front of the door windows in a way they look like ornaments instead of bars. Reinforcement at the bottom of the doors and I am sure there will have been some sort of protection behind the long windows next to the door.

Below: See how close I was to the building? Trying to capture it with my iPhone, but it is difficult.
The photo of my back gives a clear view of the heels on these Daisy Duck shoes.

Below: Posh door of a posh building. The pebble coloured trousers have a split at the bottom, as you can see. A designer’s whim. The polka dot blouse is old and was part of a co-ord (see the full skirt ensemble here). I gave the skirt away as it was just a bit too short for my taste. The golden bag is a present from Marianne. The black and white belt is by Isabel Marant. I bought it together with a burgundy leather belt which I hardly use. But this black and white belt comes out to play many times.

Below: Marjolein’s suggestion for a pose. Perhaps I shouldn’t have stuck my belly out but I was trying to maintain my balance.

Below: This pose was easier.

Below: About time I showed you Marjolein’s outfit. I thought she looked soooo good. I love everything she is wearing.

Below: All the close-ups we took of me weren’t to my liking, so I cropped the bench photo to emphasize the earrings by Lara Design.

Below: And a close-up of Marjolein while we were having lunch, preceded by cappuccino. How cute is that embroidery?

Below: Impression of the street.

As we walked back to the centre of The Hague, we hit a couple of stores and bought something. The ‘damage’ wasn’t too bad. Fun day, brilliant weather.
What happened in my life this week
I visited Ron’s allotment for a change, after I think at least a year. Ron is going there a lot with our friend and neighbour Froukje who got a little patch of her own on Ron’s allotment. She loves it.
Of course, tongues started wagging: “We haven’t seen his wife for a long time and now he is here with this young blonde”…haha. Nothing to see here…keep moving…
Below: Some photos of Ron’s allotment with the big pond and the stone warrior keeping watch. He has two more sections, one with fruit trees and vegetables and one with a vineyard.

Below: View from the pond to his cabin. It has a terrace which can be covered when it is too hot; fancy…right?

Below: And Ron wouldn’t be Ron if he didn’t have something quirky in his garden, like this ‘Horse in Hedge’. Or better said ‘Half Horse in Hedge’ as there is no part coming out at the other end of the hedge.
The bottles you see in the pear tree contain growing pears and will become an eau-de-vie called Poire Williams; well…that is the plan.

I am looking after our neighbour’s cat further down the street during their holiday and he is naughty. His owners had left sweets on the kitchen counter and I had given him a few on Sunday. Only to come back on Monday to find he clawed a hole in the little bag and ate all the sweets. I also found a gross spot on the little door mat, so perhaps he threw up; serves him right.
Below: Cat and mischief.

Below: I wore this outfit but I don’t think it is worthy of a post. Got some nice comments though.

Most of the week was spent doing my posture exercises, ironing, pedicure, washing hair, again ironing, blogging, setting a timer (took me 30 minutes to figure out), getting the printer back to work and running a neighbour to hospital (just for a check-up).
Dear Watson was coughing and sneezing, so Ron took him to the vet. There is nothing major wrong with him; she suspects it is a grass needle up his nose. She couldn’t see anything but gave a medicine against inflammation/ pain killer. Monday she will look further up his nose under anaesthesia.
Visit, diagnose and medication came to a total of €45. I have heard horror stories of vet bills in the USA and I am thankful for this socialist country.
Below: Strolling through town I spotted this pretty building.

Friday I had coffee with Yvonne. We go back to 1991. As you know by now, I cherish my friends for a long time.
Below: Yvonne, radiant as ever. She is a beauty and a kind person who loves to laugh.
