Another glorious day in my life…spending time with the Shopping Saturday girls, Sabine and Anke, this time in Deventer. For walking all day, I am wearing my yellow shoes, which are exactly the same colour as the side stripes on these green Adidas trousers. When you love a colour, you usually own several items of it. As the trousers are quite long, these shoes with a little platform were perfect. The trousers are a gift from Marianne beginning of September. She was clearing out her wardrobe.
Let’s start by re-introducing the Shopping Saturday girls.
Below: Anke.

Below: Sabine.

Deventer is a historical old town in the east of the country. It is pretty and picturesque but they don’t have many nice clothes shops. Sabine however, managed to find a beautiful pair of trousers. I bought a long raincoat, fit for walking the dog in the pouring rain.
Below: New trousers for Sabine. They are a little long for her but a tailor will sort that out. The matching blazer is stellar. She needed size XS which she ordered online as the shop where she bought the trousers only had size M.

Below: Here they go, also in sensible walking shoes but keeping it stylish.

Below: You will get to see many beautiful houses and buildings. They preserved them well in Deventer.

Below: We tried the trousers you see in the shop window but they didn’t have our size.

Below: It was busy on the Saturday afternoon, but not crazy. The yellow top is ancient as I never throw tops out, or belts or scarves. And again, the same colour as the shoes and the stripes. The bracelets are from Africa, bought at a market in Amsterdam. Bag Dries van Noten, blazer Drykorn (seen in this post and in this post).

Below: Of course we hit the shops. We are not the Shopping Saturday girls for nothing. Bought a silver- coloured brooch here.

Below: Sabine found this fun card haha.

Below: This was a gadget shop. Anke tried to put a crow on my shoulder.

Below: Sabine is a goofy girl as you can see. She bought her skirt in South Africa.

Below: The ‘Waag’ of Deventer (Weigh House), of course not in use as such anymore.

Below: Sabine tried to take a photo of me with this plant as my hair, but I couldn’t get close enough without trampling on the plants on the ground.

Below: She had better luck in another spot haha.

Below: We came to a beautiful building called Penninckshuis. Built in 1583 as a house, and since 1891 it is a church hall for Anabaptists and Remonstrants. The Wikipedia page is only in Dutch.

Below: I climbed the statue of Albert Schweizer in front of Penninckshuis, but I am not as bendy as I used to be. I made it, although not gracefully.

Below: After lunch, checking the photos I took with my iPhone.

Below: Sabine in a relaxed pose. That bag is a Miu Miu trophy she found in Japan.

Below: Our three bags, all together.

Below: Art shop in a historical building. Those faces on the corbels look so lifelike.

Below: Anke in front of a brocante shop. Brocante is a beautiful French word for old and second-hand, sometimes nearly antique, often not.

Below: This is the Brink (the big square in the centre) where many restaurants are situated. We had dinner here later that day. It was packed by then.

Below: Before dinner we had drinks on a terrace with a view of this magnificent church, the Saint Lebuinus church. The following link to the Dutch Wikipedia page gives much more information than the previous English link.

Below: For the architecture lovers, here is another old building, which dates back to 1612, as evidenced by the date anchors on the facade. It was originally constructed as a substantial warehouse with a large cellar. This explains its functional architecture, such as the hoisting beam assembly at the top of the bell-shaped gable and the large windows (formerly fitted with shutters), designed to protect the goods stored inside.

Below: This building struck me and I looked it up. It is the former women’s prison of Deventer. That sculpture of the escaping woman is brilliant.

Below: Anke was holding my tote. It is for my camera when not in use. I wonder whether the resident of this house stole that Abbey Road sign in London. It looks genuine.

Below: The goofy girl in front of a chemist.

Below: Not all photos are a success.

Below: Doesn’t this look professional? Don’t let it fool you. I know very little about photography.

Great day.
What happened in my life this week
The weekend was quiet with a little birthday party thrown in (not mine). Took poor Watson to the vet on Monday to check on his claws. Fortunately, everything was OK.
Marjolein and I did another photo shoot. We nearly cancelled it as it was raining and the forecast was not good for that day. Lo and behold, as soon as we set out to go anyway the sun came out and didn’t leave us until I went home. Weather is still unpredictable.
Below: Wore this one day, my Piazza Sempione suit. (Link to original blog post with trainers and link to post with high heeled boots.)

I have been busy with painting wooden earrings in the colours that I want them. Like I have this bracelet and necklace with green and orange. Wearing one of my orange Lara Design earrings with it, feels like too much; too many focus points. I wanted something simple and searched Etsy to no avail. This is the solution. You have seen this trick before with my green and white necklace.
Below: Work in progress. Stacked the earrings on a piece of clay.

On Thursday, I had an ‘in-between’ appointment with my hairdresser. Leaving my hair longer than usual at my previous hair appointment had not worked: I could no longer keep it in shape so I gave up. As she is usually fully booked I was lucky to get a slot after someone cancelled.
Below: At the top my hair like it was at the end of September. Not too bad. In the middle my hair after I had just washed and blow-dried it last Monday. My hair looked how I love it but I also knew that within 4 hours it would be a disaster, hanging flat against my face so I called my hairdresser. At the bottom after I had just had the haircut last Thursday. I am not a fan of a short bob but at least I can keep this in shape. And I bet you can hardly see the difference between the three of them.

My friend Hanka came to Haarlem this Friday and we had a lovely afternoon together. Such a pity it was raining most of the time. After so many beautiful sunny days. Bummer. After lunch and visiting a few shops, we sat yapping for ages on a terrace underneath a sunscreen which acted as an umbrella.
Below: Sweet Hanka.
