Oversized pale green shirt and BVA girls

Oversized pale green shirt

Oversized pale green shirtBecause I previously bought the same shirt (slightly shorter) in white cotton and loved it, I thought it was a good idea to purchase this oversized pale green shirt as well. But it isn’t as easy to style as the white one. Where the white one was cute on my wide leg jeans (see this blog post), this pale green shirt wasn’t. So I opted for my old Paige flared jeans, which I bought in Vancouver in 2015. (That is why I have so many clothes…they last a long time. And honestly, I give away a lot of clothes too.)

Another reason why I hesitated to buy this shirt was the colour. It is a pastel shade and if you have followed my blog for a while, you know I adore bright colours near my face. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and solve the dilemma with colourful earrings.

We, the BVA girlfriends group, gathered at Marianne’s house and Jilske took photos of me in the garden.

Below: Close-up of the pinkish earrings (Lara Design).

OK, I grant you, they are not that colourful, but I like their style, they suit the outfit.
I just had my hair cut and hated it. My lovely hairdresser who is really good, always cuts my fringe shorter than I want, despite my warnings when she starts. And, having the choice between leaving my bob a little longer or a little shorter, she will choose the latter. From now on she is not allowed to do my fringe anymore. I felt dopey.
The photo below is taken a week later when I went back to Marianne to re-shoot her photo (I did a terrible job the first time). She then took a photo of me and my earrings as well, with my slightly longer hair.

Below: Did you spot my new boots? Blue cowboy boots with a narrow ankle. They are great for walking, especially when I wear my soft socks with that little bit of cashmere.

Before I continue with the outfit photos (they are more or less the same as a back garden isn’t the greatest background, but sometimes you have to make do), let me re-introduce you to my friends.

Below: Our host of the day, Marianne. I took many terrible photos that day or forgot to take any altogether, but this photo is the re-shoot.
Marianne’s outfit was very well put together again, a red-violet pleated skirt with a jumper in red-violet, green and cream.

Marianne

Below: Marianna (her name ends with an ‘a’). She doesn’t like being photographed but lo and behold, I was permitted to publish this one. She had charming shoes on, matching her cardigan.

Marianna

Below: Marijke in a chic cream-beige outfit. Always in a good mood.

Marijke

Below: Jilske. This photo was taken in a shop later that day. She carried my bag nearly the whole time. Great combination with her bright blue jumper (sweater).

Jilske

Below: Marijke tried this chair too. I think she looks so surprised because she heard the price, which was quite reasonable. It is a rocking chair by the way, and it swivels.

Marijke

Our 6th member, Claudia, couldn’t make it and she was sorely missed.

Below: The back of the shirt is fun with the split and the little buttons. I usually keep a few unbuttoned.

Below: Jilske was crouching to take this photo and I kept yelling at her that I don’t like ‘frog view’ photos as they are called. The orange bag isn’t as bright as in these photos, but somehow I cannot change that, not without making myself pale as a sheet.

Below: I tried on Marianne’s coat as Jilske had bought the same one and wanted to sell it again. I hesitated but, in the end, decided not to take the coat. (Sorry Jilske.)

Marianne is wearing green lace-up boots.

Below: I wasn’t bothered, didn’t need any clothes or should I say, I bought enough clothes the week before. Behind me are clothes from Essentiel Antwerp, my favourite brand. I turned my back on them.

Below: After our shopping time, we got out the French cheese, the nuts and the drinks. Soup was warming up and dinner was already in the oven. Not the most flattering photo but you can feel the cosiness, can’t you?

What happened in my life this week

Saturday I went back to Marianne to take a better photo of her, as you have read above. Afterwards I picked up two pairs of boots from the cobbler for two friends. It is easy for me to go there so I offered to take the boots for them and fetch them again. Always nice when you can make somebody happy, right?

In the evening, we had drinks and dinner with our friends Ger and Marja. We hadn’t seen them for a long time due to all sorts of mishaps. The restaurant was cosy, the food was very good and the service excellent. Especially when I accidently set off the motion-driven tap in the WC with my bag. That wouldn’t necessarily have been a problem, only it was a big tap and it was right above the opening of my bag. What a mess. Everything in my bag was soaked. A lovely staff lady cleaned up more than I did and gave me a plastic bag to carry wet stuff home. I did dry a lot in the restaurant.

Sunday Kitty dropped by and the three of us had a joyful morning chatting and drinking coffee. Did a lot of household chores.

Monday it was time for my fitness exercises and the physiotherapist again. I was really pleased I had the physio appointment as my calves’ muscles were tense and strained. I got spasms during the night, making me leap out of bed.
In the afternoon I cleaned the crystal chandelier, a hazardous chore and I changed the light bulbs. Gosh, the landing is now as bright as a lighthouse.

Tuesday Marcella came for coffee and I bought a pair of silver coloured earrings from her for my bonus daughter (see below). She coveted these earrings after she borrowed mine in golden. It was a stroke of luck that Marcella (Lara Design) had them in silver colour as she sells mostly gold plated.

And the third booklet for granddaughter Zoë arrived in the mail. Title Christmas is coming. Below a little collage, hurray for my creative husband.

Wednesday Marjolein and I did a photo shoot at the NEMO museum in Amsterdam, a delightful, interactive place. Unfortunately my preset settings on the camera were no good for the dark day we had. On the bright side, it didn’t rain and there wasn’t much wind, just a very grey and dark day. You’ll see the result next week.
Below: Marjolein in the interactive game whereby she had to protect the earth from all sorts of nasty stuff, like meteorites and acid rain. She is holding a shield above her head but like in the real world, it was hard to be in time.

Marjolein in NEMO museum

In the evening we had Georg and Marla over for a mussels meal. Of course Ron cooked them. Great evening.

Thursday Ron and I went into town to buy some stuff like amuse spoons, coasters, a cake plateau, Christmas serviettes etc. We have a fantastic shop in Haarlem for such things. Only when you walk around in that shop, you keep thinking “oh that is handy, I’ll have that too…” And it is a good shop, not a cheap shop, get my drift?
Anyway, with a drink in a coffee place and a little more shopping, I felt really Christmassy. (Ron didn’t.)

Below: I wore this jeans outfit with my black blazer. What I call an easy peasy outfit. Very comfortable and great for walking. I had been walking a lot the day before and my problem knee was protesting loudly.

Jeans outfit with black blazer

Friday we visited a friend for her birthday and did all sorts of things around the house.

As another correspondent has already said, it’s lovely to tag along for the events of your week.
    Xx

    1. I am glad you feel that way Catherine. Likewise, it is lovely to have readers who appreciate my blog posts. As I create something for others to see.

  2. I love these oversized shirts, they look great with jeans, a casual look that I’ve always thought was pretty. Beautiful earrings and gorgeous hairstyle. The back of your shirt is super original. All your friends are really stylish and charming, very elegant women.

    1. Sometimes I think they became my friends because we recognised so much in one another.
(I am only saying this because I want to be one of the “really stylish, charming, very elegant women” in your eyes hahaha.)

  3. I think the pale green blouse with the jeans looks great on you. Not sure why you don’t like your hair. Looks good to me. And your jeans and blazer is a look I would wear too. Merry Christmas to you, Ron, and Watson.

    1. Ah, the way you see yourself and the way others see you…can be so different. My point of concern is the hair and nobody else notices or cares.
The jeans and blazer look is an easy look which has been copied so many times. I have joined the ranks.
A Merry Christmas to you too Linda.

  4. Another wonderful week tagging along with you Greetje, what fun. I love your cowboy boots, navy is my black.

    1. Navy is much softer than black, not so harsh and it is perfect with jeans. And you know how much I wear jeans.
I am glad you enjoyed the post. I’ll keep them coming every week.

  5. You are all so fashionable! It’s nice to see a cheerful company.

I liked your green shirt too and i immediately wanted to buy myself something with buttons on the back.

Today i found and already ordered a white blouse:

    https://maven46.com/back-button-blouse-10045/

It turns out that shirts like that are rare.

    1. Thanks Natalie. There is already so much sorrow in the world, that I like to offer something cheerful with my blog. I don’t sugarcoat things and I don’t make things up, but I am just a lucky so and so whose life is pretty good. And I realize I am one of the few.
About the shirt, you are right, you don’t see many with buttons on the back. You found yourself a lovely one. Even buttons on the sleeves.

  6. Love the blue cowboy boots! Your friends are so stylish, you are also! Love reading your posts.

    1. Thank you very much Diana, your compliments make my blogger’s heart sing. I will keep on publishing posts, you just keep on reading.

    2. Hi Greetje, the connection you have with your friends, (and that they help with the photo taking) is delightful to read about. Good friends, good food and good times – what could be better?
The blouse is a fun shape, would be interesting to pair it with some aubergine/plum trousers or skirt, which you have, right? 😉
Also impressed with your creative skills with the book you both made for your granddaughter – those are heirlooms! Enjoy the festive season! 🎄

      1. You are right Helen, what could be better than good friends, good food and good times? I enjoy it so much.
I do not have a skirt in aubergine/plum but I do have a pair of trousers in blush pink. That might also work. And I saw a combination in a magazine of this pale green shirt with a pair of brown trousers and an orange top/shirt. I will have to try all these combinations. I think the shirt is too oversized and too long to work on a skirt.
The creation of the book is all down to Ron, I only put the photos he took of his creations into the framework of an album, which is similar to blog work. I do think Zoë will appreciate it, especially when she is a grown-up.

  7. Wow, you are such a chic bunch! Everyone looks great; I especially love Marianne’s outfit, AND her home decor!

    1. Thank you very much Patricia. Funnily enough we don’t regard ourselves as a chic bunch, but we’ll gladly accept your compliment.
Marianne’s outfit was too good to be ruined by a bad photo, it was well worthwhile to go back and take another photo. Her home decor, like mine, is very colourful. We love colour.

      1. Yes indeed, as soon as I saw it I was reminded of your home!

        1. Oh, you know my home decoration?! Fun.

          1. Well, no, I’ve not been round for tea 😊, but I’ve seen bits of your living room in the blog and it’s very colourful too!

            1. No, you haven’t been round for tea, that’s for sure, haha.
In this 2014 blog post you can see our living room with me as a brunette. The only thing we changed since then is the model of the striped chairs. We still have the same fabric but on other seats.
              https://www.nofearoffashion.com/2014/07/13/colourful-living-room/

          2. I couldn’t reply to your last comment, I couldn’t see the reply button, but thank you for the link. I don’t think I was reading your blog in 2012, but I’ve definitely seen living room photos before. I love all the bright colour – reminds me of my years living in Germany, I saw lots of white walls and colourful furniture and accessories there.

            1. There was a reply button but it is a bit hidden because the comment respons ‘tree’ is getting long haha. And you did reply otherwise I wouldn’t have seen this one. Anyway…our walls are cream or khaki-grey (apart from the purple wall) as I find white too harsh.

  8. Your friends are always so chic! I love seeing their different outfits. I must say, though, that Marianne’s outfit is absolutely stunning. What gorgeous colour combinations!
Your books for your granddaughter are adorable. I’m sure she will treasure those for years to come.

    1. I suppose, when you choose your friends, you are attracted to one another because of shared interests? Might that be the reason why my friends look so chic?
Your compliment of Marianne’s outfit I forwarded to her and she is very pleased with it.
Sometimes I wonder who has the most fun with the books, Ron or Zoë as he loves creating them.

  9. Happy holidays to you, your family, and your very stylish friends!

    1. Thank you Anne and of course best wishes to you too.

I always look forward to your blog, your travels, friends, and your love of color!! Here in Colorado bright colors stand out from the blacks, grays and browns. Not to mention the unrelenting sweatshirts!
Happy Holidays from the Rocky Mountains

    1. Thank you for your kind words Elizabeth and for reading my blog posts. When you create these things as a blogger, you like people to read it, right?
      Happy Holidays to you too.

  11. I like the back button detail on the shirt, and think you did a good job styling it. The orange bag is a nice bit of color, even if it isn’t as bright as it photographs.

You have THE most stylish group of friends!! And the book is adorable!

    1. It was not an easy shirt to style as the fabric is thicker than its white “sister”. At first I only tucked half of it in, but I like it better with a whole tuck.
The colour of the orange bag is better in real life, more chic.
I do have lovely friends, don’t I? And you are one of them.
Ron did a wonderful job with the booklet again.

  12. So fun! What great friends. And, not sure if Ron would be amenable, but those books are fabulous and could easily be marketed. They’re incredibly creative. PS. I love the last photo with your hair tucked behind your ears and the jeans and flat shoes. Chic.

    1. My friends are the best. Love them.
I told Ron the same, the books could easily be marketed but he is not interested. In his life he advised people, created things etc., lots of opportunities to become rich. Alas haha. Although I don’t think you can get rich from books. Unless you write Harry Potter.
In the last photo I tucked my hair behind my ears to show the colourful earrings. It is a comfortable outfit.

  13. Great outfit. Love your boots and the colour palette of the entire outfit. Pistachio may not be your best colour but it looks good with dark blue and the pop of orange. The shirt is very cool with the back buttons. I found when I stopped going to the hairdresser often my hair took on a much nicer form. Also I had a hairdresser who kept cutting my hair too short. Once I found one who actually listens to what I want, and not what she wants, I was much happier. Yet even so I am going to her much less and my hair has never looked better.

    1. Unfortunately with my hair, the hairdresser is often right. When she cuts it a bit shorter it stays in shape much better. If I don’t go to her in time (every 6 weeks…) my hair just hangs down my face listless. But leaving it a tiny bit longer than she wants means I don’t have to wait a week to look good. It is a very fine line with my hair.
Thank you for the compliments on the outfit.

  14. Hi! You’re looking really great in all of the outfits. I look forward to reading your blog, it always makes me laugh and I love that you’re so cheerful and positive!
    Have a wonderful Christmas.
    Linda in UK.

    1. I am so glad you said that my posts make you laugh. That is the goal of my blog but I am never sure whether I succeed in that. So thank you.
You have a wonderful Christmas too.

  15. Hello, You

Aren’t you the goody-goody, turning your back on your favourite clothes store? Respect, my dear! But you looked great (again), anyway – no need for new stuff. Once more, top marks for your outfit.

Like you, I find cowboy boots are very comfortable and am lucky enough to have several pairs bought from stores in proper cowboy country in middle America. As for that shirt, I love it! You styled it just right; I hope you can see why I think you look your very best in get-ups like this because this casual-chic look really does suit you. Crikey, another compliment! It must be Christmas!

You’re right, the photo taken at Marianne’s really does show the cosiness, it’s lovely. Like you, I cherish my friends.

So, my friend, have a good week.

    Gee x

    1. I wasn’t a goody-goody as I was a bad bad girl the week before haha.
The pale green shirt, by the way, is also new. It was still within the 10 items back in September.
I agree with you that my sweet spot is casual-chic. It does feel very Christmassy, all these compliments. Thank you. I wonder what you will think of next week’s post…(cliffhanger).
      Have a lovely Christmas time.
