Pink trousers with a multicoloured jumper and Milan

While doing a photo shoot in The Hague, Marjolein found this balloon arch which so delightfully matches my multicoloured jumper. They were there in anticipation of King’s Day, hence red, white, blue and orange balloons.

You know how much I love colour and as soon as I saw this jumper in the shop, I pounced on it. Yes, mine. It is soft as a kitten and great for these spring days when it is warm but not really hot.

We had chosen an area in The Hague with pretty houses, a canal and at a distance not too far walking from the centre.

Below: In a side street from Denneweg, called Maliestraat, we were immediately pleasantly surprised by these houses.

Below: There were even more charming houses around the corner on Hooigracht.

Below: A big green door. We are always looking for green doors but this one was on the sunny side of the canal and my flashlight is still on the blink. So, not a great photo.

Below: This is the front of that house. What amused me was the Delft blue tulip vase in the right window, but with the tulips in another vase in the left window. You have to be pretty rich to own such a house.

Below: As we walked to our favourite restaurant (LEUK), we passed this house, called Huis Huguetan, built in 1734 for the outrageously rich lady Adriana Margaretha Huguetan. You can read more about this house but it is in Dutch so you’ll have to have the page translated in English.

The area gave us plenty of photo opportunities. Of course, sunny weather helps to enjoy such a day too.

What happened in my life this week

Saturday Ron and I walked our dog Watson together. It was nice weather and nature always makes me zen. Afterwards we stopped at a garden centre to get a plant and I found a pair of black plastic boots (below) for next to nothing. Perfect for rainy Milan. My feet would be dry.

Spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what to pack for the trip. After I was all done I looked at the forecast again. In Milan it was going to be 14 to 20 degrees Celsius (but with heavy rain).

Sunday was a day for fitness and washing my hair. The weather in Milan kept changing although rain was still the main ingredient. I decided to add a summer blouse and summer shoes for that one day it would be warm.

Hereafter you will get a photo dump of Milan…just to warn you.

Monday I arrived in Milan earlier than Susan of Une femme d’un certain âge whom I was going to meet. I started scouting the neighbourhood and found this pretty courtyard (below).

Below: A beautiful church, Santa Maria del Carmine. Susan taught me a ‘trick’ with my iPhone photos. A brilliant trick. I can erase unwanted signs and such from photos in an easy way, like the “men at work” sign which was in this photo.

Tuesday Susan arranged an appointment for us with Toosh

Below: Here we are, having a coffee in a café just before the appointment. Claudia, the owner of Toosh, found us there when she came in for coffee too.

Susan and I

Below: This is a part of the Toosh showroom. So much colour, we were delighted. Lots of linen and silk. We came for a top or a shirt but we also felt the scarves Toosh is selling. Especially the vicuña scarves. Insanely expensive (for me that is; I hardly dared touching one) but so, so soft, you will not find anything better anywhere.

Toosh Milan

Below: Susan did a little interview with Claudia of Toosh. (And no, this is not a sponsored post. Not at all.)

It was a feast. Susan ordered a shirt and I ordered a bow tie blouse. Couldn’t resist it.

We continued walking to the big cathedral, the Duomo (below). You cannot go to Milan and not see this.

We also walked through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is magnificent, but it was so crowded, I could not take one decent photo. I will give you a Wikipedia link to learn more about it and see nice photos.

Below: We did manage to lunch with a view of the Duomo.

Below: Dinner at Stendhal, not to be sniffed at.

Wednesday we walked a little more and shopped a little more and as you can see from the photos, it was sunny weather. We did see some rain those 4 days, but that was either very little or at night when we were indoors. So much for a weather forecast.

Below: Susan discovered a pretty chair.

The hotel, The Urban Hive, is worth mentioning. We can both highly recommend it. It has the luxury you may expect from a hotel like that, but also a staff that really makes the difference. They are quick, keen to serve you, but not formal. It is as if you have found new friends.

Well, dear readers, I hope you are still with me. Believe me, I had many more photos, so I “killed quite a few darlings”.

  1. Today is all about joy and color. I love the print on your sweater; it’s adorable. The pink pants also look great on you, and the whole outfit looks balanced and beautiful. The outfit is perfect with the pretty coat. I always fall in love with the photos of urban architecture you share. Your country is like a dream to me. I love the “distracted” photo; it’s so natural. The earrings are adorable.

    1. I am surprised to hear you say that the Netherlands are like a dream to you. You have sooo many amazing cities with gorgeous architecture. I mention Barcelona to start with. I’ve been to the Gaudi places and was in awe. I even went to the top of the Sacrada Familia and nearly fell to my death, descending the stairs (shaped like a snail house). Fortunately a man who walked before me, could stop me from falling.
And I agree with you, natural, unposed photos are the best.

  2. Beautiful pics as always and love that colourful jumper! Are you able to share the ‘erasing’ tip on how to remove things from iPhone pics?

    1. I can share the tip on how to remove things, sure. But you need a fairly new iPhone for that. I have a 16Pro.
When you open a photo and you hit the three horizontal stripes at the bottom underneath the photo, you can adjust the photo. After that you will see the erase icon bottom right, click it and go over the part of the photo you want to erase and wait a few seconds. That’s all.

      1. Thanks Greetje! I have an iPhone 15, so I will see if that works on mine.

        1. I don’t know. Hope it does.

  3. How fun to see you and Susan together since I follow both of your blogs! Have you ever been to the top of the Duomo in Milan? It’s amazing!

    1. Apparently quite a number of my readers follow Susan’s blog too. Although it is the other way around as Susan had many more readers than I have. As a matter of fact, I bet that all the people who follow us both, started with Susan’s blog and found my blog after a shout-out by her.
I have never been to the top of the Duomo in Milan. I once climbed 1/3 of a church stairs in Delft, I climbed stairs at the Vatican in Rome and I descended the stairs of the Sacrada Familia in Barcelona (went up in the lift). I am now done with climbing church stairs.

      1. We paid the price of a ticket and took the elevator to the top of the Duomo! Not only did it save wear and tear on our knees, but we were only in Milan overnight so it saved us time as well.

        1. Ah…of course, like with the Sacrada Familia. Mind you there was a huge queue.

  4. What a gorgeous post! Thank you for showing us those lovely houses in The Hague. The detail and artistry are outstanding. I love both your outfit and Marjolein’s — so colourful.
How wonderful you got to visit Milan with Susan. I enjoy her blog as well. You both looked so chic but also happy!

    1. My pleasure Cynthia, I am glad you enjoyed the post so much.
Trying to find clothes for Milan was quite difficult. Like Susan, I start with the shoes. Not knowing whether I needed summer shoes too, made the choice hard. But I am so glad we hardly had any rain. It is of course, always nice to meet each other, but a bit of sunshine (or at least no rain) makes a city trip so much better.

  5. Love your colorful top. I’m happy you and Susan had a nice trip.

    1. If you know how much I like bright colours, you”ll understand that I went for the pile with these jumpers (sweaters) straight away.
Meeting Susan is always great, but having some sunshine while we are out and about was an extra I didn’t think we’d get.

I follow both of your blogs and I love that you both are friends and are able to spend this time together.

    1. If you follow us both, I imagine you will have read Susan’s blog about Milan too by now. It is indeed such a privilege to be able to meet (usually once a year, but not every year).

  7. My two favorite bloggers together. What a treat. Gorgeous houses, loved Milan and liked the video too. What a great concept for a Shopping and dining with friends is the best!

    1. These blog cross-overs happen as you are interested in the same topics. It is of course not a given that you will get along if you meat in real life, but with Susan and me it clicked from the first time she came to Amsterdam.

  8. Greetje, finally got to see you in that colourful jumper ( pullover) you purchased on our first outing in Haarlem …so you! And I think another way to wear it is with dark jeans too. Lovely architectural pictures with you and Marjolein in The Hague. I was in Milan on my own in mid summer of 2023…very hot, but a good pricing opportunity for a Uniworld cruise on the Venetian lagoon later. The Duomo is amazing, and just people watching there is so much fun while enjoying a gelato. As lovely as the Galleria was architecturally, especially the tile work on the floor, the shops are for very deep pockets indeed, so not my style. I found a dress at a little boutique around the corner which has turned out to be a good purchase. Your hotel , Urban Hive, looks so interesting and comfortable. I stayed a block away from the cathedral , across from Piazza Fontana, at the pricey Rosa Grand ( part of pre cruise trip package) . Slippers …but no robe provided…which was awkward when having room service! Ha Ha ! So pleased the weather changed for your visit with Susan. She’s certainly a veteran traveller!

    1. You are right about the shops in the Galleria. All Gucci, Dior etc. Those stores were empty though. I was wondering how they earn any money, even though their articles are that expensive.
Urban Hive was great and the room had robes plus slippers plus a Nespresso machine and a water cooker. Still, it is the staff for me who made the difference.

  9. Love the outfityou have on in front of the Gucci wall. And I notice you are always having good hair days lately

    1. Hahaha Petra…I always am having good hair days lately. That is because of my hairpiece. My life saver when photos are taken. No worries about my hair anymore.

  10. Loved all the outfits and architecture photos. Looks like you had a wonderful time in Milan.
    Have a good week.

    1. I knew I would have a good time with Susan, but it is so much better when you can roam the streets in sunshine. So, yes, we had a wonderful time in Milan.

  11. Lovely outfits, all three of you. Looking forward to the bow tie blouse!

    1. You will have to wait a little while for the bow tie blouse Eve-Line. It will be hand made and it takes about 4 weeks. Plus shipment. There is good Dutch expression for that: “Uitgesteld verlangen verhoogt de bevrediging” LOL.

  12. Loved reading about your trip to Milan. That Gucci wall!!!

    1. I heard from a friend that Gucci apparently has a new mural up each year.

  13. This is my all time favorite post! So many wonderful photos and outfits in the Netherlands and in Milan! Thank you!

    1. It was entirely my pleasure Sharon. I hesitated a bit, adding all those Milan photos but then I thought “If they are fed up with them, they can stop reading”.

  15. I LOVE your jumper. You look fabulously Spring-like in your pink pants and pink coat. Now I want to go to Milan. Ppff, so much for weather forecasts. But good in a way that you did not have too much rain to hamper your excursion. You and Susan look very happy in every photo, you clearly enjoy each other’s company, so nice when you have someone like that in your life, even if you only meet up once in a blue moon.

    1. I was so happy that the weather forecast had it wrong. It isn’t nice, exploring a city in the rain.
We do enjoy each other’s company and over the past 10 (?) years we have seen each other 7 or 8 times, which is not bad for people living so far apart.

  16. Love this week’s featured outfit! That top is so You. And the architecture in The Hague is really magnificent!

Those boots were a good buy, whether or not we had much rain. They look spiffy! I had such fun on our days together….we’ll have to start thinking about our next travels. 😉

    1. I agree, the jumper is very ME haha. The black plastic boots will come in handy I am sure. We have more than enough rain in the Netherlands, as you know.
It was really nice being together with you. Miss you already.
