Long pencil skirt with a white bomber jacket

long pencil skirt with a white bomber jacket

long pencil skirt with a white bomber jacketThe next item from my Paris purchases is a white bomber jacket with a grey marble effect pattern. It is well made, is exactly the right length and is wider than a normal bomber jacket (which looks stupid on me).

As I think this long denim skirt needs a modern top, I was pleased that the jacket went so well with it. The first reveal of this skirt was with a white and black jumper (sweater) and also yellow accessories, even the same earrings. Still, I see it as a different outfit. I even dared breaking out the yellow Coach bag. I often think it is too ladylike for my regular denim outfits.

Ron was my photographer.

Below: Finding a spot in Haarlem that hasn’t been on the blog a thousand times, is a challenge. We walked around and Ron saw this coach house. Coach houses were at the back of fabulous big old houses.
He explained that the coaches would go through these doors and the hay was hauled in through the three openings above the doors. I was missing the hook to hoist things up but later I realised that the hay was probably stacked up high on a cart and was swung in with a pitchfork.

Below: Next to the coach house was this. According to Ron, the horses would go in through these doors.

Below: Two doors down was a sign, stating Stalhouderij which means livery stable.

Below: The little street proved to have more hidden gems, like these icons set in the brickwork.

Below: Close-up of the three icons although a bit blurry. The text underneath the middle one says “De Liefde” (The Love).

Below: Just goes to show, there are still areas and streets I haven’t plundered for a background.

Old house in Haarlem

Below: The house next door is a little wonky, partly because of my camera lens but mainly because it is tilting. As it is between two other houses, it cannot tilt any further.

Below: A mural created by James Jetlag. Such a shame that they put that stupid grey electricity box in front of it. And to add insult to injury, there is ugly graffiti on it.

Below: Now this is a stunner of a photo, don’t you think? I am not the main thing, the sculptures are. This building had a couple more of such columns.

Below: Not wanting to wear my long black coat again, I took this workman’s jacket which we found at the vintage market Chatou near Paris. I should have left it open or button it up higher. Now it looks funny.

Below: We had enough photos of the outfit and went for a cappuccino in café De Volkslust. Ron spotted a colourful man with his colourful basket on the bike. Or he had borrowed his wife’s bike.

Below: Another styling with the white bomber jacket. If it is OK with the jeans skirt, it is also good for wearing it with jeans. I am wearing my mum’s hematite jewellery set (necklace, ring and earrings).

What happened in my life this week

Saturday happened to be the day we celebrated King’s Day in the Netherlands. It should have been on the 27th (Sunday) but King’s Day is never celebrated on a Sunday. I was unaware of this; that’s what you get when you are blissfully retired.
Traditionally everybody wears orange, red, white and blue clothes. I published a new post last week with orange trousers on that day. Just a happy coincidence. On the actual day I wore this (below):

Outfit King's Day, barrel jeans with a red and cream striped jumper

Unlike other years we didn’t go into town to celebrate. At my age (71) I have been to so many King’s Day (and before that…Queen’s Day) celebrations that I know how it is. These days it is too packed with tourists and really crowded, no fun anymore. If you want to get an idea of what the day is like, click through to these posts: King’s Day 2014 and King’s Day 2018. I personally find the 2014 one the best; such a great day and I was 11 years younger (sigh).

We were invited for dinner by Froukje and Petro who had forgotten King’s Day celebration too but rushed out to get Indonesian food. They also had a delicious cake for dessert. Happy evening.

Sunday was left to do the laundry, do my fitness exercises (I hate them so much) and to dye my roots. Boring day with lots of sunshine.
Our friends Georg and Marla came to dinner which ended the day with an up.

Below: the Sunday outfit. As it was warm, I thought I could put on my yellow summer trousers and combine it with the blue and white pleated ‘cardigan’. That was a mistake. It is still cold in the evening which made me change into jeans. Plus, the cardigan is warm and the trousers are ‘cold’. I never understood how women can wear a tank top in summer combined with trousers and boots.  I cannot do that. I would either be too hot or too cold.

Monday was another quiet day but also exciting because my tech guy (who fixes the technical stuff of my blog) created a new blog look. I chose to let it look like the old one as I was fine with that. I won’t bore you with details why I had it re-done but it was necessary. The transfer from old to new of all the posts, photos, comments etc.  took many hours. And of course, all the hours my tech guy needed to create the new “shell”. It’s my hobby and hobbies cost money. No big deal. I am glad everything works again.

Tuesday I got to know the new way of creating blog posts. It isn’t that different once you know where to look but I really needed the help of my tech guy.
I also started preparing for my trip to Milan. The weather forecast says ‘rain all day for four days’, which makes packing clothes a challenge, especially the shoes. Who has rain resistant summer shoes? I don’t, I hardly ever go out when it rains.

Below: Wore this on Tuesday. (Link to original post with green high heels.)

Wednesday I did another shoot with Marjolein in The Hague. Because it was heavenly weather and I had a summer dress to photograph and also because I had to return socks to a shop in The Hague (long boring story). Like always, it was a great day.

Thursday, as often, we spent with Nicky and the granddaughters. It was a hot day, unusually hot for the 1st of May and we spent the afternoon splashing around with Zoë. Well…Ron and Zoë did. Ron amused Zoë by throwing buckets of water over his head. We had good laughs.

Friday my friend since secondary school, Jeanne and I (photo below) roamed through Leiden. The usual: chatting, laughing, lunch and coffee. It is such a blessing to have friends.

Jeanne and me in Leiden

We had a fun day and I photographed two beautiful buildings for you. Cause you like them so much. Leiden is an old university town.

  1. I love long pencil skirts; I find them elegant and feminine. The jacket design isn’t my favorite, but the color combination of the look works well. The urban photos you post are beautiful, as always. You know I don’t like the word “sexy.” I prefer to say that your legs are really attractive and beautiful. I like the yellow accessories; they look great on you. I think the Rembrandt photo is charming.

    1. I forgot you don’t like the word “sexy” but it figures, you are such a gentleman with so much respect for women. You are one of a kind.
A bomber jacket is usually not a garment for me but I really liked this one. You don’t, well we all have our preferences.
Ron took the Rembrandt photo and is quite pleased with it.

  2. Enjoyed this post, loved your outfit, long skirt and bomber jacket, perfect for you. Loved also your referral in 2014 kings day, very very colourful photos. 😊😍

    1. Glad you liked it all. I will try my best to keep you entertained.

Your yellow Coach bag is a terrific piece. Please consider using it more often. I think it adds an eclectic vibe when carried while wearing denim. 💐

    1. That is nice to hear, I will take your advice. The bag cost me enough so, I must bring down the cost per wear. Initially I was drawn to this colour yellow but in a tote shape. While ordering it from Coach, I hesitated and thought that the one in this post was better. But that was when I was still in a corporate job. Nowadays the tote would have been better. But I’ll go with your eclectic vibe haha.

  4. Oh I love this outfit! Such a perfect bomber. I have one that is a bit too masculine for my liking, funny cos I usually like fairly masculine, but when I pair it with jeans it is too much. Yours has such a feminine and unique shape. Good Buy! I really like all your other outfits in the post too. Enjoy your travels. I suggest you take a bit of a mix of clothing for various temps. Currently where I am on the Black Sea South West, it is cold enough for a jacket in the morning and night and then really hot after midday until around 5pm. So I am constantly adding and removing toppers!

    1. Some clothes (and boots) make me really masculine and a bomber jacket is one such an item. But not with this one, so I am really pleased. For Milan I am frantically checking the forecast but I cannot really decide what to do.

  5. Love the barrel boots and white heeled boots combination

    1. You mean the barrel jeans with the white heeled boots combination? I love that too, although I think the white trainers are equally good.

      1. JEANS DAMMIT I MEANT JEANS

        1. I knew, it had to be jeans. That is the word belonging to barrel haha.

  6. Any chance you can share where you got/the brand info of that blue and white pleated jacket? I can’t get it out of my mind….

    1. I am sorry but I cannot help you there. I cut out the label in the neck. In the side seam it has a mark in gold and the letters VS. It came from a shop in Paris which you can find on Instagram (@addictedparis). Perhaps they know. That shop always used to sell clothes from upcoming designers, sometimes fresh out of school. No idea whether they still do that. If so, there might only be one of them. But give it a go. Send them a DM through Instagram with a photo of me wearing it.

  7. I really like the shape of that jacket. I think you’ll get a lot of wear from it. Can’t wait to see you in Milan!

(We just had a crazy hailstorm here in Paris!)

    1. I agree, the shape of this jacket is good for my figure, unlike normal bomber jackets. So, now I finally have such an item.
On Instagram were a lot of videos of Paris and the crazy hailstorm…insane.

  8. Great variety of outfits. I especially like the bomber jacket. Thanks also for all the building photos. Have a wonderful time in Milan!

    1. Thank you Anne. I always think of my readers when I see a beautiful buildings. I aim to please.

  9. The white bomber jacket suits you so well and it can travel easily I bet. Well worth losing another of your ten annual purchases. The hidden streets are fascinating and Ron’s a very good photographer for you- perhaps he is truly aware of your emotions as well as body language more than anyone else. I enjoy my Saturday dreaming time- I won’t make it back to Europe again, but you leave me feeling as if I have. Have a lovely trip. Beth

    1. I am afraid I am already exceeding my ten annual purchases but I don’t mind really. I fell off the wagon, tomorrow I might try again (the tricky bit is in the word ‘might’).
You made me quite proud by saying that my blog provides you dreaming time. Thank you.

  10. I love the skirt and jacket outfit! The architecture is grand also! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Creating a blog post every week is my joy Lisa. I am glad you like it. Hope I can keep you amused.

  11. Do let us know what you select for summer shoes that tolerate rain. That one always stumps me.

I love the vintage workman’s jacket. I am looking for one of those. Love the color.

And the photo with the columns is superb!

    1. Well, temperatures are dropping in the forecast. I cannot make head or tail of it. For my feet I just bought plastic boots which look pretty cute (for rain boots that is). Higher up I am thinking of jeans. I had just established everything I should pack but now I am in doubt as it says that it is 14 degrees C in Haarlem now and to me it is really warm. It will be between 14 and 19 in Milan. I may have to redo my packing tomorrow.
Funny that you like the vintage workman’s jacket. I thought it was a bad purchase although I wore it today and it was just right.

  12. Wonderful blog post today. Loved all your outfits and photos of buildings and family. Here’s to a lovely time in Milan, regardless of weather!

    1. Susan and I will make the most of Milan, I am sure. I bought cute plastic boots to beat the rain. If life throws you lemons, make lemonade is the expression I think.
