White trousers with a bright blue top and pearls

White trousers with a bright blue top and pearlsThe statue is the depiction of a Dutch children’s song about the son of a count living in The Hague. He is pointing to where his father lives and I am doing the same. The outfit for this week is a combination of my wide white trousers with a bright blue top (or shirt if you will).

Because the top is shorter than most of my shirts and tops, I thought that I could just let it hang with no need to tuck it in. In hindsight I am not so sure. Tucking a shirt in at the front looks good on me, but actually only with mid-rise trousers. If they are high-waisted then a tucked-in shirt often highlights my short upper body. I think I will go hunting for a good pair of mid-rise jeans.

Anyway, I was in The Hague to meet my friend Peggy. It wasn’t my intention to turn our get-together into a photo shoot but this outfit hadn’t been on the blog yet and Peggy had no objection whatsoever to taking photos with my iPhone.

Below: Peggy, a cheerful, highly intelligent hardworking mum of three. She is a delight. I am so happy with all my friends.

Below: The Passage (again). Do you see what I mean with the length of the shirt? The fact that the sleeves are extra long, doesn’t help either. I should have rolled up my sleeves. Why do I always think of these things AFTER the photo shoot?

Below: I was smitten by this bird feeder in the shape of a diamond ring (of course I was). You can remove the ‘diamond’ to put in the food.

Below: We had to ‘document’ the mural in one of the restaurants. The little red bag by the way, is ancient. I bought it about 30 years ago and it was expensive at the time but it lasts.

Below: Looking at this photo, it strikes me that the trousers look flabby for lack of a better word.

Enough digressing. Back to the Denneweg area.

Below: You might have seen this statue of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt before in a previous post.

Below: Peggy spotted this lady across the road with that awesome jacket. I went over to her and asked whether I could take her picture and put it on the blog. I got permission. Peggy and I both could have bought this jacket if we had found it.

Below: And how about this lady? LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

What happened in my life this week

Saturday: I did a photo shoot with Loes at the market. A location suggestion by Ron as it is always lively at the market. And he was right. In the afternoon I was running around doing all sorts of errands. Ron had invited friends and neighbours Froukje and Petro over for an informal meal (salade niçoise). It was a great day.

Sunday: My friend Ayen celebrated her 65th birthday with 17 of her female friends (below). She booked a charming venue (an old barn) and we got served many dishes with delicious food.

Birthday party

Below: I wore this outfit to the birthday party. (Link to the original post and to the post with a black shirt.)

Pink cargo trousers with a green shirt

Monday we helped Nicky and Randolf by babysitting the grandchildren.

Tuesday I visited Selma, also in The Hague. I brought various salads for lunch at her house and afterwards we walked into town for a drink on a terrace (below). I fell totally in love with her shoes.

Selma and me

Below: My outfit to see Selma. I used to wear this Essentiel Antwerp top (a gift from Peggy) with boyfriend jeans but those jeans are at the end of their life cycle.
After seeing Selma’s modern slingbacks I thought my shoes were so lame, so run of the mill. As far as I am concerned, they are only good underneath wide leg trousers, only revealing the toe.

Barrel jeans with checked blouse

Below: Wednesday Helena visited me for a chat, coffee and to pick up my gift, my HIGH jeans. Every time I put those jeans on, they didn’t feel good. I managed to style them once with a black jumper and orange boots and I still like it. But other than that outfit, I thought it made me look masculine. My motto is: no matter how expensive an item is, if it doesn’t give you joy, get rid of it.
I knew Helena loves HIGH jeans and I also knew that the size I bought was her size. They fitted like a glove and she was ever so pleased. She came with almond sweets and treated me to lunch, both being totally unnecessary, but appreciated.

Below: Helena and me at the restaurant. She wore a great off-white denim suit. (Link to the original post of my Samsoe and Samsoe jeans with the white oversized shirt.)

Unfortunately (or fortunately) she decided it would be nice to go into town and browse through the shops. Something I shouldn’t do when my money bag is empty.
I saw the shoes I admired on Selma the day before, in a light blue jeans colour. They were my size and I couldn’t resist them. Small windfall, it turned out I had some credit with the shop that I had totally forgotten about. Not enough to justify the purchase though. Let’s just hope I can wear them to threads.

Thursday we helped daughter Nicky by looking after the grandchildren and doing some household chores.

Friday my darling friend Lia and I saw each other again. It had been quite a while. The usual stuff, talking, laughing, coffee, talking, laughing, lunch, talking, coffee, laughing and home again. Below: Lia.

When I grow up I hope I’m as stylish as you 😉

    1. Thank you for your funny comment. My advice: try to be stylish now haha. Really, it doesn’t come easy to me either. I am no stylist whatsoever. It is my fascination with clothes and anything adorning me, that makes me put in so much time to figure things out. If you haven’t got a passion for clothes, I don’t think you want to invest the time. But, you like me and my clothes so there must be a spark there.

  2. I don’t know what is more fun for me…loving your outfits or seeing all the beautiful scenic areas and so many of your great poses! I look forward to you every week.

    1. Janis, that is so good to hear. You have made me very happy. Thank you.

  3. Good morning. I know the wide leg pants are the style now but I have not warmed to them yet. The barrel leg style makes people look bow-legged. The very large ones take all the attention. I guess they are what we will all be wearing but I find them cumbersome. I no longer wear high heels so with most of my shoes the pants are way too long. I enjoyed the beautiful photos of you and your friends the sights of The Hague. Your hair is looking great!

    1. It is late afternoon here at your morning time (grin).
I agree that the barrel leg style makes people look bow-legged but I like the fun of it. I don’t always need to comply to the hourglass figure.
Glad you enjoyed the post anyway, despite the wide leg trousers haha.

  4. I’ve always liked the combination of white and blue, and I like the clothes you’ve chosen. The top and pants are very pretty. The photo of you sitting at the front of the theater is very beautiful. Are the flowers artificial? It doesn’t look like it. The woman with the purple hat and patterned coat is truly spectacular. You look very beautiful in the close-up with the pearls.

    1. Yes the flowers are most certainly artificial. These silk flowers are getting better and better. Expensive though.
I agree with you on the women with the purple hat being spectacular. A real bird of paradise.
Thank you for the compliments. I know you like my close-ups.

  5. It was a party with you again. You looked beautiful and besides the pictures also a lot of laughter and food for thought from another wise lady ;).

    1. Ah…that’s so sweet of you to say. I always think you are wise enough but exchanging ideas is always good. We both benefit.

  6. I have a similar, short-waisted body and have stopped buying any long-sleeved tops or sweaters or jackets where the torso is shorter than the sleeves. I always think I look good, until I see photos. It just doesn’t work on me. On the positive side, the blue is gorgeous and I love it with the white pants and shoes. As always, my favorite outfit is the last one. You look great in dark wash, simple, long jeans.

    1. I nearly always crop my sleeves. Because the sleeves of the blue top are extra wide and extra long, I thought it was the look. And also, it is harder to roll them up. Never mind, there is always a next time.
The last outfit is a great example of how good clothes can make you look. I look so slim in that. And believe me, it’s the outfit that achieves that haha.

  7. I actually think the blue top looks good untucked. I think the wide legs on the trousers are not always flattering on anybody. They always look baggy to me. I won’t wear them. I have wide hips and skinnier legs so even “slim” pants legs look wide on me. I like seeing the plethora of your outfits! And I agree that the jeans who gifted to your friend were not flattering. I love seeing the beautiful buildings in your country. America’s buildings (most not all) are boring.

    1. Most Americans like the buildings I show in my post. Probably for the reason you gave.
I don’t mind jeans not being flattering (hence the barrel jeans) but I don’t want to look masculine in them.
My hips are very narrow (no bum either). It has its pros and cons.

  8. I love those green shoes! They are both fun and cool. And I really like the green top-pink trousers outfit.

And I agree that rolling up the sleeves would probably have added the structure to the overall look that you felt was missing. So lovely to see the pretty areas of The Hague.

    1. Thanks Susan. We never went to The Hague but we could have. Then again Amsterdam and Haarlem have a lot to offer too.

  9. Hello Greetje, lovely to see your outfits. May I say I think there is nothing wrong with the length of your blue shirt for leaving untucked, and yes, rolling up the sleeves would have ‘fixed’ the look. Also your green shoes are so cool, certainly not run of the mill or lame. The white trousers are good too! You have some wonderful items.

    1. I’ll ‘fix’ the look next time haha.
You see my clothes and shoes with a milder look. Thank you for that.
