Patterned pink skirt

Finally, a skirt again. I told you in a previous post that I spotted this patterned pink skirt by accident only a couple of hours after I saw a woman on Instagram styling it six times. Loved it and ordered it. Fits like a glove.

I created many outfits with the skirt, a few of which are copies of the Instagram inspiration, of course, copycat as I am. This version with my golden yellow top from Milan is my favourite. The suede yellow slingbacks from Marks&Spencer bookend it perfectly in my opinion, although a bit matchy matchy. The shoes are holding up surprisingly well, considering they are suede in a light colour and six years old. Bought them in Newcastle when I was there with Nikki of Midlifechic. Scroll down a bit in that post and you will see them.

Below: After I sorted all the photos at home I discovered there is a man behind me, sticking his tongue out haha. I guess he won’t mind being recognised in this blog post.

Below: You can see the lower hem at the back. I like such a feature and I like that the skirt is really long. Can I also mention the quirky heel on the slingbacks?

Below: This is one of my favourite stalls with French cheese, sausages, pesto, you name it. All sorts of delicacies. Great for when people come round for drinks.

Food delights like French cheese, sausages, pesto etc.

Below: And the nut stall is fab too. A queue (actually 4 queues) all day long but well worth waiting.

Below: And a close-up of my shiny bracelet. I think I found it in a second-hand shop once. It was at the back of my wardrobe where I suddenly saw it again. People are right when they say that if you haven’t got your clothes (shoes, accessories etc) in view all the time, you forget about them. In our small home it is just not possible to have everything in view all the time, but luckily I have a good memory.

What happened in my life this week

Saturday Ron was selling all sorts of nearly antique (or just old) stuff at an outdoor antique market. Stuff from our house, his allotment and the shed. The market is called Antique Market and sells ‘brocante’ which is a French word for anything old but not yet 100 years old.

Below: The antique market in the morning when it was raining cats and dogs.

Below: After 1 pm the sun came out. Ron is on the left, in front of his stall. The photo isn’t sharp and it was at the end of the day when they were packing everything away. He was there with our friend Marla and they both sold well.

Below: I made Salad Niçoise with fried chicken this time instead of fish. I don’t like cooking and I am not very good at it either, but this is just a matter of assembling. I figured Ron would be tired after a long day at the market. I can be nice. If I want to haha.

 Nothing to report about Sunday.

Monday on the other hand was a great day in Amsterdam with Sylvia of 40PlusStyle.

Many photos to come.

Sylvia (below) was the one who gave me the support and encouragement to start my blog in 2012. Now living in Portugal and still travelling a lot, she visits the Netherlands now and then. Of course, we meet when she is here.

Sylvia is still able to pack everything in a carry-on suitcase even if she is away for a couple of months and still look stylish.

We had tickets to visit a historic house of rich people around 1884 which is now a museum, Museum Van Loon.

Below: There was an exhibition called Flourish by an artist who paints portraits of people he approaches in the street in Suriname. He paints them after a painting of someone of the Van Loon family. The artist is Kehinde Wiley who also painted the official portrait of Barack Obama.

I quote: “Kehinde Wiley’s new body of work constitutes a visual response to the portrait collection and historic interiors of Museum Van Loon. Melted into the museum’s collection, Flourish addresses ties between Western portraiture, Dutch global colonial presence and contemporary art as social and cultural practice. Simultaneously, Flourish highlights beauty and grace in the 21st century, captured through models the artist met in Suriname.”

Note: apparently Kehinde Wiley is under investigation for rape and sexual harassment.

Tuesday the day started with rain and this continued until noon. By that time I had arrived at Marjolein’s house and she made me coffee and lunch. As the skies had cleared, we ventured out for a photo shoot. It is always hard to find a new and interesting background for our shoot but Marjolein came up trumps again. Several public objects throughout The Hague had been turned into artwork and became a mural. We found a number of them. We couldn’t use all of them as people parked their bike or motorbike against it (rude). Below one as an appetizer. I ‘removed’ the cart that was parked against it. By the time I went home the sun came out. Never mind, we had a good day and a successful photo shoot.

Wednesday I took the shoes back which I bought a week ago. I didn’t think they were too comfortable, Ron hated them and frankly, I didn’t have the money to spend. The shoes went back to the shop and surprise, surprise, I got a refund! Usually, you get a voucher. I was so pleased. Rest of the day physiotherapist, fitness, chores and clearing the leaves from the garden.Thursday Ron and I walked dog Watson at the beach on a gorgeous day. Below: Ron and Watson in the shadow.

  1. Just popped in to say I LOVE this post. Gorgeous outfit, great scenery, chic friends, and sweet granddaughter!

    1. I was very pleased with the post myself. Wish I could make them like this every week but I cannot. There are boring weeks and there are failed outfits. You will see it all.

  2. Greetje, that pink and yellow skirt is STUNNING on you! I love this styling even with the matchy shoes. Good job on NOT matching your purse!😁
    Murals are fantastic backgrounds!

    1. It is so difficult for me, not to match things in my outfit. And I do think that not matching is much more interesting. It just takes more styling skills, which I do not think I have. I am getting better though.

  3. Greetje, I cannot add anything novel to these very positive comments …I loved you in that vibrant outfit…so chic and downright feminine! A bit of everything that I so enjoy from your upbeat blog. I agree with everyone…one of the best editions you have put together!
I am a bit late adding my bit…been busy with a community yard sale here…my first , since I am a new member to this seniors place. Not as interesting as a brocante, but fun to see what other residents have out on their tables, and meeting more of my neighbours . I took home over $100CAD, after I had purchased a few little treasures from others. I’d say not bad at all , and boxes of unsold items are ready for the Salvation Army charity shop to drop off.

    1. I love yard sales but it is not something we do here. Not that many yards haha.
You did really well taking home that much money AND little treasures.
As for the outfit, I agree, it is one of my best posts.

  4. I love the elegance of this skirt; this length is my favorite; I find it very feminine and pretty. The print is gorgeous, and the whole look exudes balance, cadence, and elegance. I love your shoes. Thank you so much for dedicating your close-up photo to me; it’s a great honor and makes me very happy. And I love your earrings. Flowers, cakes, cheeses, ceramics… a super interesting fair. I really like your shirt versus the salad; the print is very pretty. And that you can be kind sometimes, I don’t believe it; I think you’re always a very nice and friendly woman. My dear friend, a 10 for this look. You look gorgeous to me.

    1. I agree with you about the length. My favourite too. It reminds me of the fifties and the New Look by Dior.
And I knew this outfit would be right up your street. Often do I miss my job when it comes to clothes (and colleagues and laughter). My outfits were more feminine in those days as I didn’t have to walk too far on high heels. Just to the coffee corner haha. Having “an audience” for my outfits was an added bonus.

  5. The pink and yellow top and skirt are so feminine and great for summer. Very pretty. I would enjoy shopping the antique market and I’m glad Ron did well. Your friends look stylish too and attractive. Tell Sylvia I admire people who can travel with so little and look so good. Lovely photos as usual. I would enjoy the historical home tour. So pretty and interesting. Always fun to see Watson.

    1. I think I can safely conclude you enjoyed the post a lot. That pleases me so much. It means that I reached my goal.
      Thanks for your loyal commenting.

  6. How interesting about Kehinde Wiley and his portraits influenced by the wealthy Dutch family. I suppose the family made their money in Suriname?
Your posts are always so delightful, and take us along vicariously to the museums, the beach, the cafes, and the brocante.
I don’t think that I would have put pink and yellow together, but they work like magic in your outfit. I’m trying to get more colorful this summer and this is inspiring.
    Love the yellow shoes too!
I agree with Gee about those jeans, but I they do have “personality!”

    1. Yes, the family Van Loon made their fortune through enslaved people. The current generation acknowledges that and tries to create awareness for how wrong this was.
There is yellow in the pink skirt so it was easy to come up with the yellow top. Other creations with this skirt have different vibes.
Ah…the barrel jeans, you either love them or hate them. I suppose my taste goes from one extreme to the other.

  7. Such a beautiful look Greetje!!! The colours work so well together and you look divine. Those shoes are very cute too,Hugs,Paula,XXX

    1. Thanks Paula. I felt beautiful (whether that was true or not, doesn’t matter haha. I felt that way.)
The items of this skirt outfit go with so much that I have created multiple other outfits with them.

  8. Hello, You

Wow! I thought, a post without those jeans! You know the ones I mean, don’t you? Yes, you do! So I read on, loving the summery outfit and thinking how good you look in bright colours, and then…arghhh! There they were, laughing at me! Still, you were having a great time, so I forgave you!

Glad Ron did well at the brocante market. I love those; well, any market really with their bookstalls and vintage clothes stalls, art supplies and handbag stalls and….need I go on? Why didn’t you go too? You could have browsed all day! Oh yes, you had a salad to ‘cook’!

How lovely spending time with the family. Littlies grow up so quickly – we’re seeing it now in our great-grandchildren – so cherish every moment.

In fact, have a great week!

    Gee x

PS I wonder if Linda V has ever ventured into any of the small-town Mom ‘n’ Pop restaurants in America? We’ve never been made to feel felt we must eat ‘n’ git (stet) in any of those. The folks are always friendly and the food’s good. And as I’m a naturally slow eater they’d have a job rushing me anyway.

    1. I am a person with extremes as far as styling is concerned. You know that by now.
Brocante isn’t my thing anymore. It used to be our hobby in 1995 and we decorated our house (built in 1903) with a lot of brocante stuff back then. But after a while we went back to modern. As I was at the market anyway (to bring stuff) I walked up and down the stalls. Nothing remotely tempted me.
No idea if Linda V ate there. Hope she reads your comment.

  9. Love the new skirt which goes so well with the yellow top.

    1. And the skirt goes well with a lot of other tops too. Which of course, you will see in the near future.

  10. I love your style!

    1. Actually, I don’t know whether I have a particular style. I always say that my style is all over the place. I just as much like an elegant dress with high heels as I like my barrel jeans with sneakers. But thank you anyway.

  11. Greetje, Thank you for another interesting and lovely post. Your outfit is stunning and perfect for You. I appreciate the beautiful photos of historic buildings and current lifestyle of you Ron, family and lovely friends. Always feels like I have had an special outing.
Inspired to try new colour combos with my very classic wardrobe!

    1. If I convey that feeling you describe (you feeling like you have had a special outing), then I have done excellent work. So, thank you very much for this compliment.
Hope you will create a lot of new combinations with your wardrobe. Colour is not reserved for just one style.

  12. Great pictures! The pink and yellow outfit is stunning on you.
Nice to see pictures of Ron and family too.

    1. I loved creating this post. Everything worked, the outfit photos, the museum story and the family pictures. A bit of everything and colourful.

  13. Wow! Best post ever! You look fabulous in bright colors. I think they not only flatter you but I think they make you happy wearing them! And I am in love with the photo of you with the salad!! Looks like you had a wonderful week and thank you so much for sharing with all of us. We love it.

    1. When I read your comment, I had to read the post again to find the salad haha. Didn’t know what you were talking about. I thought it wasn’t the most flattering photo but I showed it anyway as the salad was good and I don’t strive for perfection.
But I agree with you, bright colours do make me happy as does this outfit.

  14. Another wonderful blog post. Everything about the pink and yellow outfit is delightful and so becoming on you. Thanks for all the photos of some of the pleasures of your beautiful country.

    1. I will admit that I liked this post a lot myself. I cannot say that for every post because it all depends what I am wearing and what my photographer and I encounter during the shoot.

  15. I love your outfit! And the yellow b are not too much. They make the outfit complete in my opinion. And the skirt is gorgeous on you. Loved seeing your friend, Sylvia. She must have an iron in her hotel room, because her pants look quite fresh looking. My clothes in a suitcase always end up wrinkling. I do use the roll up items trick but that only works so far. I love the outdoor restaurants where you can watch the crowd and enjoy your lunch. Over here in America, we have very little of them. And everything is rush, rush, rush. I feel they play loud music here in restaurants so you will eat quickly and leave!

    1. Sylvia is in a B&B, so I suppose there is an iron in the house. Cosiness is a big thing in the Netherlands. We even have a word for it which is in no other language: “gezellig” and rush, rush, rush is the opposite.
When Dutch people emigrate I think that is the thing they miss most (apart from family), meeting friends for coffee or dinner in cafés and restaurants. Usually you don’t have to travel far as we are a very small country.
The rush, rush thing in the USA I experienced at a banquet there. I hadn’t finished my main course and the waiter wanted to take my plate. I grabbed it back and said I hadn’t finished my meal yet. For punishment I didn’t get dessert haha.

  16. I really like your blog – was surprised to see you have a beach nearby and I wondered where you live?! So nice to have so many pretty places to visit near Amsterdam xx

    1. Really, everything is near in The Netherlands. Even from Amsterdam it is only 30 minutes by train.
