Multicoloured jacket against mural art

Here it is, my multicoloured jacket by Essentiel Antwerp, the one I tried on when I was in Antwerp with my Shopping Saturday friends. Didn’t buy it then, regretted it and went through some shenanigans to get it. As they say: “What doesn’t come easy, you appreciate more”. Or something like that. Probably why men chase women and women play hard to get.

I was never one to play games in love. You either got me straight away or not at all; playing hard to get seemed so fake and old-fashioned. How wrong I was, I learned the hard way.

Anyway, enough digressing. Over to the multicoloured jacket and the photo shoot.

Marjolein, being my photographer, had done some research and found mural art through the whole town of The Hague. We chose an area and off we went. Alas, it wasn’t that simple. Either the view on the murals was blocked by cars or many bicycles were parked against them. Or we simply couldn’t find them as the map wasn’t that accurate.

Last time we photographed an outfit against works of art, I wondered whether you were at all interested in the artists’ names and assumed you weren’t. But one of my dear friends told me I should mention the names as a thank-you to and recognition of the artist. And out of respect.

Below: The first mural is by Sergio Andrea. Marjolein took this in landscape format to show the whole artwork. The first photo of this blog is against the same mural.

Below: Artists are Sophia den Breems and Gordon Meuleman, an artistic duo known as SOGOShow. The colours are great with my jacket.

Below: Around the corner to the front of the mural. Marjolein risking her life by standing in the middle of the road taking this photo.
This time I am wearing the jacket with the zip up high. Other details are my beloved white shoes with silver flap (soft as a kitten) and my newly acquired black linen trousers. You will see the trousers more often in the coming months. Purchased them from Massimo Dutti.

Below: Marjolein decided to take an arty photo. The earrings are by Baublehaus. Alas, Baublehaus is no longer in business.

Below: We tried to find as many different murals as we could. Only I am the same, in the same outfit in every photo.
This mural is by Erwin Verkade. Oh, and the trousers have a drawstring, which I didn’t hide very successfully.

Below: You couldn’t miss this mural by Roelof Schierbeek and Patrick IJmkers. What a blast of colour.

Below: I chose to stand in the recessed space. Marjolein wanted me to put my foot up against the wall and immediately my hamstring caused me pain. She was telling me to up my fitness game immediately which made me laugh.
Wearing my jacket is only fastened at the bottom.

Below: Then Marjolein was the model and I was the photographer. Immediately she assumed 5 different model positions in 20 seconds. She is much better at that than I am. I save little videos and photos of posing models but never bother to look at them and learn. I am so lazy.

Below: Mural by Micha de Bie. Why not try that foot against the wall another time…this time no pain in the hamstring.

We really did a decent job of documenting these murals, didn’t we? Even with mentioning the artists.

Below: Marjolein in the restaurant where we had a drink. You can see her gauze top with the raised flower ‘stamen’. It works so well with the blouse she is wearing underneath. As if she bought them as a matching set which she didn’t. Wearing a set of golden earrings with a black pendant on the left and with an orange button on the right.

Below: Close-up of me so you can have a good look at the Baublehaus earrings. Also wearing a golden ring with 2 pearls and 1 lapis lazuli.

What happened in my life this week

Saturday I did some styling with new tops I got the week before. When I popped outside for a minute my friend and neighbour Froukje called me in for a slice of cake. Oh yes, please!
We were talking about the jeans she bought that day because her old jeans didn’t fit her anymore as she has lost weight.
When she described the old jeans I was interested…low waisted, G-Star Raw, baggy… that was the type of jeans I tried to buy the week before but couldn’t find. Long story short…they were my size and exactly what I was looking for. They are now mine.
How many pairs of jeans do you need? Well…I suppose 1 pair is enough, perhaps 2. Which means I am grossly overdoing it. Shoot me.

Sunday I managed to create a good outfit which you will see this summer. I am not giving it away yet.
Also did my fitness exercises. I decided for some reality on my blog. Below: this is what I look like in my fitness gear, hair a mess and no make-up. The yellow light of the sunscreens softened the wrinkles in my face and on my legs. But if you look at the arm with which I am holding the camera, you can see an abundance of wrinkles. It cannot be helped, I am 71. It is wrinkles or death.

Monday I wore this outfit. (Link to post with these palazzo trousers and two different tops.)

Palazzo trousers with a black T-shirt

That day I wandered into town and bought a new pair of shorts as Ron hates the shorts which I have. He likes the new pair (below) but thinks they are a bit too chic for going to the beach. Aagghh. I told him that one can never be overdressed and I’d rather look good and a bit chic than knowing he hates what I am wearing. (The colours are a bit strange in the photo because I had the sunscreen out.)

On Tuesday there was an Apple course about taking photos with your iPhone, which I attended. The small group was nice and I learned quite a few things but also discovered that I know a lot more about the phone and photography than I gave myself credit for. Below: wore this that day; old stuff with an oversized shirt from last year. The outfit is a bit outdated but I liked it. Nevertheless, this will probably be the last time I’ll wear these trousers like this.

Wednesday was a fun day meeting my brother and my sister-in-law at their home in Zwolle. Now that both my parents are gone (miss them dearly), I want to visit my brother and SIL more often as I love them both and it just won’t do, seeing each other only twice a year. The thing to overcome is the trip to Zwolle which is in the east of the country and we live in the west. It is an hour and 45 minutes’ drive if you have no traffic jam and you are exceeding the speed limit. Say a 2 hours’ drive and the same on returning. In our country that is quite a distance.

Zwolle has a few attractions apart from my brother and SIL being there. It is a fabulous old town with many historic buildings (you know, the kind you like). Ron and I set off early and did a photo shoot before arriving for lunch at my brother’s house. Gorgeous weather and the photo shoot went well. We only gave it an hour and you will see it next week.

Our dog sitter Wil had been taking good care of Watson that day but when we picked him up, it turned out Watson lost his tracker. A tracker can be tracked, right? So, off we went to the park and Ron tried to find it with the app on his phone while the battery was nearly empty. Lo and behold, he did find it in the sand.

Thursday the hairdresser did her magic again. Despite the fact she cuts marvellously, I hate my hair when it is just ‘done’. I feel like a total idiot for at least half a week until the hair settles. Which is why I am wearing my hairpiece in this photo with the Thursday outfit. (Link to original post.)

Sleeveless suit

After the hairdresser I visited Marianne (below) which of course, is always a pleasure. Doesn’t she look good?

Marianne

Friday was fitness day and in the afternoon my friend Aafke and I roamed around shops and went for a meal in the evening (below). We laughed our heads off. Hopefully we didn’t disturb the other guests.

  1. I love the print on your jacket; the look is perfect. I really like the background you chose for your photos; they’re beautiful murals. The earrings are adorable, and you look very pretty. I like seeing you in your sporty look; I really think you’re a beautiful 71-year-old woman, a woman of style and appeal. I like the other five looks, all very pretty. I especially like the one with the white shirt and black capris.

    1. You still amaze me. You like the white shirt with the black capris? I had just decided to never wear that again.
I am pleased that you like my looks, though I thought you’d prefer more elegant styles. You are a man with a broad taste.

  2. Superb pictures of all the murals, and I do like knowing the artists’ names. Love your Essentiel Antwerp jacket, Greetje – I always think of you when I wear my EA pieces (I thrifted that snakeprint shirt I had on the other day, which was by them).
I am like that too with a new haircut – I just had mine cut on Friday and it’s driving me nuts. Just settle down!

    1. EA have my love. Though I don’t like every collection, I often find something I want. Like the orange pleather trousers.
I saw your snakeprint shirt as I went to your blog. How about that? Not three weeks later but in time.
Your haircut looked fine to me, but I know that we all see ourselves so differently from others.

  3. I love all your outfits this week Greetje, but especially the multi coloured jacket and palazzo trousers.

    Thank you for the inspiration!

    Kind regards
    Wendy
    (Cape Town – South Africa)

    1. You are most welcome Wendy, my pleasure. I don’t know whether my black linen trousers are palazzo trousers, I think just wide trousers actually. Isn’t it frustrating to follow my blog when it is winter at your place and summer in mine?

  4. I love the murals! They remind me of ones we see when we visit Mexico. Your jacket is great too and I like the way you styled it with the black linen pants. I also like Marjolein’s outfit. Two classy looking ladies!

    1. Thanks Elaine, Marjolein is a real asset to my blog. With her photography, her background scouting and of course, with her outfits. My readers get two for the price of one haha.

  5. Hello Greetje. Your comments on love and playing hard to get made me wonder–did you play hard to get with Ron? That’s me being nosy. Also, I enjoyed the lovely photos of the murals. A local artist gave a workshop in mural painting in a city not far from us. I think we will be seeing more murals around here and I look forward to it. Your maxi dress looks so feminine and pretty. Nice! And I hear you about haircuts. It takes me a week or so to come to terms with it. It may sound ridiculous but I worry about it every time. And I really like my hairdresser. Just life I guess. I appreciate your attitude on being grateful and I laughed about “wrinkles or death.” Your “M” friends are lovely.

    1. Ron and I were colleagues so we got to know one another in a different way before getting together.
Haircuts straight from the hairdresser look too stiff for lack of a better word. Too prim and proper.
Don’t know what you mean with “M” friends.

  6. These are great comments about the number of jeans we have!

I am a white jean person, now having 8 pairs. Probably excessive, but I wear them all! I live in the Southeast US and they work like a uniform for me in the warm months..
Linen shirts are fabulous, but linen pants make me feel a frump.

I think your skinny black pants and big white shirt still look great, and I love the green outfit. It’s fun to see all your clothes and how you put them together!

The murals are too garish for me, but it’s nice to have a little change from your gorgeous houses and gardens. Speaking of gardens, yours is outstanding and your yellow and white awnings are so chic and happy!

    1. There are different types of linen trousers. Some crease less than others.
There is a big style difference between the skinny black trouser outfit and the green outfit haha. Both side of the spectrum.
The awnings are great to see and they have a function too. I would love to have them at the front of the house as well, but would have to destroy ornaments that over over 100 years old. And pay the city council a fee. So that is not going to happen.

Love the street art series, made for your beautiful jacket. Or the other way around, depends how you look at it. A big thank you in my name from the artist for mentioning their names;)

    1. Yes, it was you who pointed out to me that I should mention the artists and you are right. You see, I comply.

  8. I love all of your outfits. Your new jacket is very stylish. My favourite is your black palazzo pants. They look great on you.
Each week I find your blog so inspiring.

    1. When I started my blog I never in a million years expected anyone to call it inspiring. It was just the extravert in me and my passion for clothes that started the blog. But I never thought I was any good. Mind you, I have improved over the past 12 1/2 years. Even I can see that.

  9. Love the multi coloured jacket but the best for me is your Thursday outfit! It is up there with your black quilted outfit that to me was one of your best.. The murals are great..too bad someone doesn’t cut the ragged grass around them.. Your friend also looks lovely in her pale blue dress.. We are in the midst of a heat wave this way that would rival the temperature in India! We always factor in the humidity this way and by Monday we are expecting temperatures to exceed 43 – 47 C when you factor in the humidex! A/C’s blasting away but by Monday I may have to jump in my deep freezer!!

    1. Thanks for the compliments. You have a taste for the more quirky outfits then.
The temperatures at your place…insane! I think I would move.

what a fantastically beautiful ring… It’s too hot here for me to write more!

    1. Thanks Amanda. I appreciate your comment and compliment with all that heat going on.
In this post you can see the ring a lot better (the ring on the left I don’t have anymore).

What a great new jacket. And love the entire outfit. One of your best. Linen pants are the best, except in the snow!! Thanks for taking us along on your walk through the park. The murals are wonderful. This post is so fun!

    1. I think the post is so fun because of all the colours and perhaps because there is a sort of a story to it. Thanks for the compliment.

Love the jacket…it would fit with so many things in my own closet!

    1. I thought the same, it will go with many of my clothes.

  13. Love this post. Love the new jacket. I really love the pant and vest outfit with the white blouse. I didn’t like the strappy shoes with it. I feel the outfit needs more substantial shoes. Oh, maybe I should keep my opinion to myself? no disrespect is intended. Guess what! I live in hot Florida and do not own even one pair of jeans. I wear lighter pants or dress pants in our winter which is very short! Maybe six weeks long. The murals are amazing and your jacket looks really good with them. I am actually in Boston now and have tried to get in touch with relatives, telling them we are here for a week and would like to see them. No response at all. So sad when family does not want to get together. And I gave them two weeks notice. Oh, well. Sometimes it is just best to give up when only one group is trying to keep in touch. Your hair looks great, but I know what you mean. I always hate how the stylist styles my hair. I don’t feel like “myself” until I wash and style it myself!

    1. No, Linda, don’t keep your opinion to yourself. I am Dutch, we are brually honest with each other so I can take it. Your opinion may lead to another creative outfit.
Your family is strange. I don’t see my family (as in cousins) very much either, but if I go visit, they all group together. But it is not a regular thing.
The hairdresser cannot help it, it is just that the hair is too “even” or so. Monday I will wash it again myself.

  14. Oh, the murals are so fun, and a perfect backdrop for your jacket. It was lovely chatting with you this week.

I like the light green “apres hairdresser” outfit quite a lot too.

    1. Marjolein really is an asset to my blog as she helps so much in creating interesting photos. There are a lot of people helping me with my blog, like Selina with editing every week, Loes and Ron with photography and Karel with technical support. Without all of them, the blog would be a lot less interesting.
The light green sleeveless suit is a bit quirky but I like it too.

I love everything about this post. Your posts always make me smile. I sadly admit to owning 20 pairs of jeans….sigh.

I live in St. Augustine FL and one of the houses you featured that was bright colored on all sides is EXACTLY like a home here, right across from the ocean. For a minute I thought you were in St. Augustine.

    Always love seeing you

    1. I hadn’t counted my pairs of jeans. Now you telling me you own20 pairs, I started counting. 10 pairs are in full rotation, two pairs are waiting to see whether the “new” ones via Froukje are what I expect them to be and about 4 or 5 skinnies are in the closet, waiting to come into fashion again haha.
Perhaps the bright coloured house in Zwolle had its inspiration in St. Augustine. Or the other way around. The style reminded me of southern Europe like France or Italy.
Thank you for all your lovely compliments.

  16. Love the multi-colored jacket and linen pants. Can’t go wrong with linen pants which go with pretty much everything. New dress looks summery too. Your back garden is doing well and such a nice spot to relax and reflect on life. 🙂

    1. Yes, the linen trousers are a pleasant surprise to me. I will wear them a lot.
The dress isn’t new. I linked to the original post. But it is still a favourite of mine in summer.
