The photos in this post are from two photo shoots, one with Marjolein when it was a wet day with drizzle and one with husband Ron on a sunny day. Also, the outfit with the blue cardigan and black wide leg jeans is slightly different.

With Marjolein’s shoot I was wearing a big neon yellow shirt underneath the cardigan, blue boots and long blue earrings. With Ron’s shoot I wore a white shirt, silver ankle boots and yellow bracelets/earrings. You may decide for yourself which styling you like best.

Below: Let’s start with this photo by Marjolein (recognisable by the blue boots). She suggested I’d fill the alley as a sort of a cross. Creative.
The brown leather jacket is by Second Female and I bought it with Anke and Sabine in Alkmaar in a lovely clothes store called TwentyoneWood. If you are ever in Alkmaar, do visit this shop. They have really good stuff. The black wide leg jeans, the blue cardigan and the neon yellow shirt are also from this shop.

I totally fell in love with the leather jacket; never had such an item. And I am glad I went for the large size and not the medium; medium would have been too short, although that was the intention of the designer. You can pull the strings at the bottom to make it into a bomber jacket or just leave it wide.

Below: I will alternate showing you the outfits (with blue boots and neon yellow shirt as below; or with a white shirt and silver boots).

The yellow shirt has an advantage over the white shirt as the neck is higher which hides the fact that the neck of the blue cardigan is drooping a bit.

What happened in my life this week

After some more rainy days (I was so fed up with them), the sun finally came out after the weekend. Lucky for me, our neighbours are still often taking dog Watson out for 1 walk a day, which allows me to dress reasonably nice for most of the day. By the end of the afternoon, I will change into ‘doggie clothes’ and take Watson to the park for his second walk.

Below: Waiting for my neighbour to arrive and take Watson to the park. He wanted to be on my lap. He is not allowed on the sofa but he can occasionally sit on my lap. Of course, he is too big for my lap, so part of his body is on the sofa but he doesn’t know this.

Below: I wore this on Saturday. If you want to see a sharper photo, click through to the original post where I called the jeans “man repeller jeans”. And yes, I lost weight with all this dog walking and so many more chores. I will put it back on once Ron is able to do his bit again.

Monday was another beach day for Watson and Ron came with us. We all enjoyed the sun so much. No rain…heaven.
The next day, we sat in the sun again, this time on a terrace near a canal (see below).

Ron’s cast is off and his wrist has healed well. But as it is stiff, it hurts when he moves it. It will get better once it is more supple again. And he has a brace for when he uses the arm a lot. All paid by the hospital/health insurance. Such good health system in the Netherlands. The surgeon said the wrist will take about 4 months to be back to its normal good use. I nearly fainted. FOUR more months with all these extra chores? I am already so tired. Of course, it will not be that bad for the whole four months, but I do think it will take at least 4 weeks before he can drive again and take the dog for walks. I am soooo happy with my neighbours, taking him for one walk a day, usually 5 days a week. The days they cannot do that are exhausting.

Below: Mind you, these sunny days and so much more light at the beginning and end of the day, make the chore of dog walking a lot nicer. I now listen to a podcast while Watson is amusing himself.

Park in the early March sun

Thursday we couldn’t go to the granddaughters because their mum and dad were having a really bad cold/the flu. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a happy day for me. Ron had his shower without any help from me. I didn’t expect that as his arm still hurts. It wasn’t a big effort to help him with showering, but the fact he can now do things himself again, gave me a hopeful feeling.
(I do whine a lot about helping poor Ron, don’t I? Sorry dear readers.)

Forwards, to sunny days, like the one below. Photos taken at the beach. The reality photos.

  1. It’s exhausting to pick up the slack when one partner is out of commission! I totally feel for you, all the extras you have to do until Ron is back to his normal routine. I’m glad you have friends who help out with Watson!
I like both versions of your outfit, but prefer the one with the yellow accessories/silver boots, as they give a nice pop of colour and draw the eye around. Your leather coat is gorgeous!

    1. I did well with these new purchases, didn’t I?
And to add insult to injury…Watson hurt his paw and it had to be fixed with a small operation. So now we have to be very careful with walks for at least a week. No more playing with the neighbour dogs. Sigh. Luckily, he is healing well I think. At least he walks on four legs again.

  2. The cardigan is adorable and so unique. Wide-leg jeans aren’t my favorite, but the outfit suits you well. I love your bracelets and yellow earrings; they’re so pretty. I think I like the blue boots better. The photo of you looking at the jewelry, taken from the other window, is fantastic. I’m touched by your devotion to Ron; he’s a lucky man to have you by his side. And, of course, I’m a huge fan of your real photos; I find them absolutely beautiful.

  3. Even when you are exhausted, your blog is fun. And funny. Don’t know how you have the mental clarity to keep up with it on top of everything else, writing, taking pictures, getting dressed imaginatively! Good job. Keep it up, please!
And Watson! My lovely son in law is also named Watson, He is not quite as hairy as yours.

    1. I keep my mental clarity by kicking and screaming haha. Not really but I do use some bad language sometimes when things aren’t going my way (quickly enough) as I am easily irritated now. Ron hates that, and of course, it is not nice at all. Since a week, I am trying to use such bad language in my head. So far I have only lapsed once.
Ron named the dog Watson because he regards himself as a bit of a Sherlock.

  4. Hello Greetje! Sorry I haven’t visited for a while.
I like both outfits but the one with the leather jacket is a little more fun and I love the boots! The photos, as always, are fabulous. You have such beautiful locations in the Netherlands.
I’m sorry to hear that Ron has been in the wars. I do hope his wrist heals quickly now that the cast has been removed — for both your sakes!!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

    1. We are all so busy Suzy, it is hard to keep up with other blogs. Especially for you with writing your new book, THE ENCHANTED MIDLIFE. I am sure it will be informative yet not ‘preachy’, well written and a book one should read going through menopause. Wishing you every success with the launch on the 8th of March.
As far as Ron is concerned, he is getting a bit better every day.

  5. Love the picture through the window! Genius!

    1. I agree. It is lovely!

      1. As I said to Sue, my husband does have the Creative Eye. I would never think of such a shot, despite all the tutoring and photo assignments.

    2. My husband does have the Creative Eye. I would never think of such a shot, despite all the tutoring and photo assignments.

  6. I liked seeing the two versions of outfits using the sweater with a different tee. I need to be reminded that one little change can make a difference.

Wishing Ron the best now that recovery is moving forward. He has such an artistic eye with his photos, garden, everything.

I also appreciate your tree photo as a signal spring is coming.

    1. The two versions happed by accident. Once I saw the photos Marjolein took, I thought “Hmmm, don’t know whether I styled it well enough”. My husband had already commented on the blue boots and I should have listened to him. I think I will wear this combination with the neon yellow shirt and silver boots. I am still contemplating on the accessories as the yellow ones will clash with the neon yellow shirt.
I agree with you about Ron; he does have an artistic eye. Luckily his recovery is going well. He gets physiotherapy and does exercises (gently).
I am glad you mentioned my tree photo. I wasn’t sure whether to include it or not. After all, trees are everywhere.

    love your outfit

    1. Thank you. It ticked my boxes ‘arty, edgy, modern’.

  8. I too broke my wrist falling on ice several years ago. I was in my 70s then so healing was slow….does Ron do physical therapy? I did immediately so I wasn’t in pain but just very careful about how much stress I put on my wrist. It was my right hand too. It did take about 4 months before I could do most everything with ease. I lived alone however and had a cat and hate being reliant on others so driving and everything came back quickly. Aso I had to work (doing wine tastings) so I did that too. I believe men are different than women when it comes to rebounding from a health issue. Women just carry on because they have had to forever. Love that sweater!! Want it as well as those man repeller jeans (no longer available anywhere) and the cat pin. Want that too!!
    Hand in there Greetje.

    1. The healing is indeed much slower when you are getting older. Darn. Yes, Ron does physical therapy and it is going well. As you say, very carefully.
And I so agree with you about the different attitude of men when they have a health issue. Just this morning he asked me to peel a mandarine. I did, but come on, he should be able to do that himself, surely.
That cardigan is cool, isn’t it? I was immediately in love with it as Sabine put it on.
Surely, similar man repeller jeans should be available somewhere?
With “Hand in there Greetje”, you probably mean “Hang in there Greetje”? Haha.

  9. Great black leather jacket and, yep, I do like the barrel jeans!
Your pictures of your city are fantastic and love seeing them.
I love your sense of humor! (you can see I like using !! when I e-mail)
And, Watson is bigger than I thought!!! What breed is he? He’s a cute poochie.

    1. Great, a barrel jeans lover. Nice to meet you haha.
I am always surprised when I read that a reader loves my sense of humour. Sometimes I re-read a post to see what was funny. But I am ever so grateful that I can get this across and even in a foreighn language. Fills me with pride.
Watson’s breed is a ‘Korthals griffon’. If you google it, you can read all about them. They are an all-round hunting dog. We don’t hunt but as you might know from previous posts, Watson is always searching for mice and such.

  10. The photo Ron took through the glass is genius! I absolutely love it, and the vignettes (!) of your actual hair and face, last photos. As far as the outfits, I prefer the white, silver, yellow version, but both are fantastic.

    1. I agree completely!

      1. Nice. As I said to Bette, I think I will wear the outfit with the silver boots but with the neon yellow shirt and then I have to think about the accessories as the yellow accessories will clash with the neon yellow shirt.

    2. My husband has The Eye for photography. As you know, I tried to develop one as well, but so far I don’t think I have. Of course, I learn, but still I just shoot point blank.
Great new word, “vignette”. Once in a while I want to put some reality into my blog posts. The hairpiece, the nice clothes and photos…all good and well and nice to look at, but it is of course, a bit fake.
As for the outfit, I think I will wear the silver boots but with the yellow shirt and then I have to think about the accessories as the yellow accessories will clash with the neon yellow shirt.

  11. Hello, You

You’re wearing those darned barrelly things again in one pic, aren’t you? Grrrrrrr! As for those saggy, baggy things with the silver boots at the end of them, are they barrelly too? I reckon you do it on purpose🫤! Your second get-up is the nicer because for me, your earrings and bracelets look rather deliberate, as if you’re trying to balance things, especially with similar shapes. Just saying…

As ever, your scenic photos are lovely and Ron’s pic of you between shop windows is exceptional. But best of all this week is (drum roll), Marjolein’s cowboy boots! Love ’em!

Glad that Ron’s plaster has had the old heave-ho. I bet you are too.

    Have a good week

    Gee

    1. So sorry Gee, but I am a lover of barrel jeans while you are a hater haha. The black wide leg jeans aren’t barrel jeans I think as to my knowledge, they have to be tapered at the bottom. The black jeans are just wide and they are the same jeans worn with the blue boots.
Marjolein will be happy with your compliment about her boots.
