Sequins at a farmers’ market

SequinsWhen I arranged to meet my friend Marjolein, I was in need of blog photos. Seems to be a recurring thing. This time the “theme” was sequins. She didn’t mind taking my pictures that afternoon. Great. Now…. would she know a good place to do the shoot? No wind, indoors with a lot of daylight, therefore huge windows? Her husband came up with Urban Farmers in The Hague. Fantastic place. The two top floors of a seven-storey building were converted into a greenhouse and farmers’ market. So nice and weird finding this in the middle of a city. View Post

Swinging yellow skirt with a blue jacket

Yellow skirt with blue jacketStill keeping my promise to show you more skirts and dresses. I wanted to pair this yellow skirt with a blue jacket. A jacket that wasn’t too long, not too short (belly showing), fitted, not too warm, not too cold. Can you believe my luck when I found this versatile jacket in the sale? The skirt was a holiday find in Spain last year. You already saw my reports on that holiday here and here. The skirt was really inexpensive and a bit of a risk. With its dangling strips it reminded me of a Hawaiian skirt. I wasn’t sure whether it would look dead common or quirky. The combination with the classic jacket fixes that. It creates a juxtaposition (I love that word.) View Post

A blue sequined top to wish you Happy New Year

Blue sequined topUsually I don’t buy anything new just for Christmas or New Year. There are no parties we are invited to and my closet is stocked with nice stuff anyway. So why bother? Then I came across this blue sequined top. (I was inspired by Lisa, The Sequinist.) It was a bargain, it suited me well, it was festive but I could still wear it with jeans. Furthermore it had long sleeves and a boat neck to hide any old skin and it was warm. I can never understand why in December women walk around in flimsy dresses with little straps and often with bare legs in peeptoe shoes as well. It is winter for Pete’s sake. I am always COLD! Am I the only one? Or do you not mind suffering as long as you look good? Don’t get offended when you are the flimsy dress woman, I think it looks great. Blame it on jealousy. View Post

Blue Kenzo jacket dress worn in Amsterdam

Blue Kenzo jacket dressFriend Misja asked me whether I wanted to model for a spring fashion shoot she had to do for a German magazine. Haha.. of course I wanted to. Vain as I am. She had to photograph 14 different women, all over 40, in spring clothes. With Amsterdam as the background because the title of the magazine article is: “What do women wear in ……” …..Amsterdam this time. Oh and no coats and no black clothes. Not such an easy task as spring was still very young two weeks ago. We chose my blue Kenzo jacket dress. Fortunately the sun shone lovely and away we went. View Post

Red jacket… finally

red jacketI have a red jacket!! I have a red jacket!! YAY…

Red is totally my colour, it suits me so well. But if it is not in fashion, it is hard to come by. And vintage shops are nowhere near as good in The Netherlands as they are in the USA or Canada. Three weeks ago, to my total surprise, I saw this red jacket in the window of a shop. Of course at that moment I was totally skinned (financially). Nevertheless I bought it straight away. I know ….. totally irresponsible behaviour. I am like that with clothes (and shoes). But now that I finally found my jacket, right colour red, right length, right fit, right size, right price, there was nothing to stop me from acquiring this trophee. View Post
