My face is a bit silly in this picture. It was the start of another glorious Shopping Saturday with my friends Sabine and Anke. As the knee wasn’t up to shopping (story is getting old) we decided (or I dictated) to shop in Haarlem. That way I could travel by bike instead of walking. Riding a bike is good for the knee. We started in a place called Heemstede which is glued to Haarlem, as we had done before in February 2017 (see this post).
The one shop definitely worth visiting is Joe&Brown (Zandvoortselaan 8A, Heemstede). Again we spent at least one and a half hour in there. As Sabine and Anke entered the shop I had a “WOW” moment. They looked so good.
Below: Anke. She has no problem with wide cropped trousers at all. (After my “maiden outfit” last week, neither have I anymore.) An easy style for shopping, nevertheless very elegant.
Below: Sabine in a splendid combination. I loved her trousers. My colour, my kind of trousers.
Below: Sabine directed me to the middle of the street “because the green trees will make a lovely background”. True…
Below: … but I nearly got run over when a car bolted around the corner. AAgghh! Wearing my AR.RT top (here with my wide black trousers) and my favourite Denham jeans which are getting “distressed” all by themselves, which I don’t want. The black flat shoes (so comfortable!) are the Molly loafers by EIJK.
Below: Right! Let’s hit the store girls. Lots of long jumpsuits and maxi dresses.
Below: Anke was tempted by this leopard maxi dress and so was I. Nevertheless, we both left it in the shop. Chicken.
Below: Just a peek of one of the swell shop owners on the left. She is going to hate me for this picture haha. (Sorry dear.)
Below: Lots of things to try on.
Below: Sabine was complaining she always goes for knitted stuff even when summer is on the doorstep. But this baby blue sweater was too good to pass up. She is still regretting having left a soft yellow cardigan in the shop last time we were here. So the blue one came home with her.
Below: Blue is really her colour. Look at that beautiful ring she is wearing. I think this is a pretty good shot. Lovely eyes to match the ring.
Below: Anke tried this dress but we all decided against it. Nice dress but not for her.
Below: She finds her earrings rather classic but I just think they are very good.
Below: This is the knock-out outfit Anke bought. Including the shoes. (I bought them too, such a copy cat.) The jumpsuit (overall) needed some adjusting: roll up the legs, pull the string a bit more so it sits higher, leave the top open a bit more. But then it was perfect. Especially with the espadrilles: still a bit of a heel, same colour as the overall thereby elongating the leg and casual enough for the outfit. Perfect shoes. I loved them which is strange as I hate espadrilles. But these are nice, they are cloth and not leather (no blisters) and I have a lot of blue clothes.
Below: Sabine went for these jeans. The bottom of the legs made them attractive and the fit was great. My camera obviously did not focus on her but you can still see the jeans.
Below: Anke bought this soft knit jumper in a pale goldy colour. Sabine decided against the white with yellow shirt, which was a bit tight around the arms.
Below: No I did not buy this one. We felt it made my shoulders look very broad which is not visible in this photo. Furthermore I would always have to wear a top underneath it as I don’t want to show the wrinkles on my chest. And a top underneath it would probably spoil the look.
Below: We had already paid when Anke spotted this sweater. Too cute to leave behind. Good shot of her earrings as well.
Below: Before we left for lunch in Haarlem, my new sunglasses were discussed. They make me look like Anna Wintour. Oops, lipstick on my tooth.
Below: Close-up of my flat black Molly loafers by EIJK. Very good for shopping. I bought them a little bit too big because I wanted to fit my support soles in them. Which I don’t use anymore. Would have been better fitted one size smaller, but still nice.
Below: LUNCH. Lovely lunch place called Meneer Frans in the centre of Haarlem. We were lucky to find a seat outside underneath a parasol. I cycled so I was there much quicker and while waiting for the other two, I claimed the best table as soon as it became available.
Below: I am in love with Sabine’s ring.
After lunch our next stop was Levv, Schagchelstraat 39 in Haarlem. I had already stocked up at this shop the month before (….). My orange trouser suit from last week is from there.
Below: Anke in a shade of blue that becomes her. After I took this picture, we found out it looks even better tucked in at the front (proportions!).
Below: Sabine “needed” tops and this sweet white knitted (again) top came home with her.
Below: “What does it look like from the back?” Sabine goofing.
Below: I was looking for trousers in a fun colour and chose these red ones. They are rather skinny and I am trying to buy trousers a little less skinny these days but they were so comfortable I succumbed. The sweater stayed behind but I did buy another one. Not going to show you as I am saving it for another post.
Below: “But look what happens when I reach for something?!” Easy to solve with a matching tank top of course. See how narrow my hips are? I am like a boy.
Below: As we were goofing, Jacky, the owner of the stop, decided to join in the fun. All of a sudden she did a split !! She is 50 and had no warm-up and did a split!! We were in awe. Talking about lithe.
And that is the end. Both shop owners of Joe & Brown and Levv are really good. They let you get on when you want to and help you with good advice and different sizes when you need it.
The afternoon ended abruptly when Sabine got a call that her son had broken his finger. No worries, everything is just fine now, but you can imagine that she was needed elsewhere.
Greetje
I enjoy being able to “virtually” accompany you and your friends on your shopping expeditions. I rarely go shopping with friends; it is usually a solitary activity for me. I love that jumpsuit, and the soft blue sweater Sabine purchased. Seeing you in your red pants made me miss my one pair of red jeans that I “grew out of”. You and I have the same “no hips/no bum” silhouette. It makes it very hard for me to find pants that fit, but you seem to do very well.
Very impressed with the flexible shop owner!
These days most jeans (trousers) have elastic in them, which makes the fit so much better. But I will admit that I spend quite a lot of money on them. Brands like Paige and J Brand make the most wonderful jeans which give you an awesome figure but they are pricey. I used to like 7forallmankind a lot too (even more expensive). And my best ones (Duch brand: Denham Jeans) were €150.
Truth be told my best jeans for a long time were jeans without any elastic in them and they were very low priced. So it can be done but it takes a lot of trying on.
Running from the car- you made me laugh! I love these posts and your sense of humor and style!
Thank you dear, these are very nice complements. And I am glad I survived to tell you this 😂😂😎.
OH! So much to say on this post. I love your pointed flats, I love the red jeans (anything red, really) I wish SOMEONE had bought that long sleeved leopard maxi dress because I have been looking for one forever! I love the outfit both of your friends are wearing (the pizza and champagne tee especially). I like the dress that Anke didn’t purchase even though it has flowers on it, the fit is amazing. I would never choose the top you are wearing for you, but it looks so gorgeous on you. On a hanger I bet it looks quite conservative, which you are NOT, but you bring it to life. What a fun day, I loved seeing everything. PS: I hate espadrilles too.
The top I am wearing probably is quite classic. It came from a very high end store (need I say more?), but I liked the colours and the print. When I had it on I was amazed by the fit and the neckline. So that has been a good purchase.
The leopard maxi dress hah? I could solve it by going back and buying it haha. I am afraid it might look a bit common.
Thanks for sharing another entertaining story Greetje. I love the blue jumpsuit of Anke, including the cool shoes, so I totally understand the copy cat element there! Love, Lieske
Those espadrilles are very comfortable. I took them for a test run, they will do me fine.
Oh dear Greetje…my post has appeared twice !!!! sorry ….goodness know what happened there ?!!!
Don’t you worry, I will delete one of the two same comments.. 😉
YES!!! I always love it when I get to go shopping with you, Sabine and Anke! I can almost feel the loving energy of your friendship through cyberspace! Anke and Sabine are very stylish and the three of you make an awesome crew!
I’m glad that your knee is slowly improving and that you’re working to keep it strong by biking. Can’t wait to see the purchase you made in an upcoming post.
You will see other things first in the upcoming posts. Have been meeting Sylvia of 40+Style and Anja and Misja.. so other stuff, but hopefully equally entertaining.
I feel the fun jumping out of these photos. I love your shopping trips with Anke and Sabine. Your sunglasses are too good. And I think you all did a fine job at finding incredible pieces. Such great shoes must help make your suffering bearable. They are fantastic flats. And the bicycle is a great idea. So happy to read this post. Finally, your photography is excellent. I laughed at your remark, “Sorry, dear,” and the photo of you on the road, “Aaaack!” Hahaha.
Wore those espadrilles today. For two times half an hour. They are no flats… they will have to wait as my knee is not ready yet. Definitely improving though. You can i agine the fun and laughter so well, as we had the same in Vancouver. Such happy memories. Glad I could entertain you 😊.
I’m glad that the shop owners don’t mind you taking all these fun photos. Awesome on the sales gal doing the splits! Ha! I wonder how many times a day she gets to do that for her customers.
You guys look like you did some serious damage on your pocketbooks.
I do kind of love that denim jumpsuit.
Your new sunnies are fab!

I don’t think Jacky does the split often for their cutomers. I would say not at all. But the mood was there and we like each other. She probably felt “safe”.
These shop owners don’t have a chain of shops which means they are entrepreneurs. They get it that blog photos are free publicity.
OK I believe there is not a post ever written that features a sales person doing the splits. I love that there is always such great surprises on your blog. I do love your skinny jeans and that blouse you are wearing with the ruffle trim at the sleeve.
Anke and Sabine looks like they are having a great time shopping with you. I do wish that she had bought that lovely floral dress however, but I am glad Anke bought that lovely yellow sweater.
Yes I do envy your slim hips and long legs! How fabulous in those red jeans. I’m very glad you did not get run over by that car, please be very careful in the future!

Oh I love everything you buy – except that orange suit last time lol. I love your blouse, it is so pretty. and I love your friend’s red pants with the stripe. I think you have a great fashion sense and as your blog says, no fear of fashion! I have lots of fears, but love to see how daring you are! Hope your knee gets better soon.
Ha ha, you had me there. There is another Linda who liked my orange suit, and you didn’t. I had to do a little search before I realized that you weren’t the same Linda 😉🙃. I admit that the orange suit is an acquired taste and most certainly not everybody’s. I am fine with that and I appreciate it very much that you dare to be honest with me. Thank you.
And thank you for all your compliments. It is not difficult to be daring for me, I just don’t care what other people think of my actions. Usually they don’t think much haha. Of course I always make sure I do not hurt people. But other than that… pfff me no care. What is the worst that can happen to me? Nothing.
Greetje – Thank you for another wonderful post. Your writings, especially your wonderful sense of humor, and lovely posts of fashion outings with your circle of friends are a bit of sunshine each Sunday. I hope your knee is better soon, though I do think flats are the way to go.
Warmly, Ann
Thank you Ann, the knee is improving. At last! It will still take quite a while but at least I now know that the diagnosis is correct and that I am on the mend.
Flats are of course much, much easier to walk on, I will admit that. But the high heels are calling me anyway.
I love reading your friends and shopping posts, so much fun! I love all the outfits and the clean lines and bright colours on all of you. Happy week, Greetje!
I feel the same about your blog Sheila. Always so entertaining. When I saw Sabine and Anke coming into the shop I felt a sense of pride. “These are my friends, look at them, gorgeous”, is what I thought haha. Silly and totally irrelevant but I did think it. And really I do not choose or pick my friends on their ability to dress.
Fabulous jumpsuit! And that split is very impressive!
Totally agree about the overall/jumpsuit. Doing the split… I mean who can do that?
This store sounds amazing. Your top and jeans look is my fav. But the red colored jeans with black top are great too!
I am still very glad with that AR.RT top. It screams quality. I let you in on a secret, I bought the black sweater in white to go with the red skinnies.
That brown v-neck sweater needed to be left behind it’s just too sloppy and baggy, most unflattering! But those red skinny pants-a total wow! Most women would kill for those legs and hips-play them up and don’t regret the straighter hip. I think the shorter blue cardigan you bought (along with the matching pants and shoes), is a great shorter length for you, enabling you to show off those gorgeous legs! Enjoy!
I cannot remember shorter blue cardigan. Do you mean the one halfway my thighs? With blue leggings underneath which have a side stripe? And with silver shoes. Is that the one? Then I agree, but hey.. that cardigan doesn’t show bum or hips haha. When I read your comment I can hear my mother’s voice from when I was in my teens: one day you will love your small hips and bums. When everybody else is complaining about a big bum and broad hips. Of course we all just want it to be perfect haha. Mind you, my small bottom frame is easier to adjust than the opposite. So I am grateful. My legs are my assets. I should insure them.
Perhaps I misread? I thought you said you also purchased the blue outfit shown in your blog, on your friend. Perhaps it was just the shoes? Which are also very very nice! : ) I also liked, on you, the asymmetric hemmed black top you were trying on, along with the red pants. It was an altogether sharp andmodern outfit! A fun day.
I never go shopping with girlfriends, but it’s always fun to see you and your friends doing it with so much enthusiasm.
That split; amazing! Was she a professional cheerleader or athlete? Hahaha….
Amazing that split, isn’t it? She said she could always do this. Perhaps it is also a case of how your body is “put together”?
Oh I am glad with that compliment. It is not easy for me to look good with flat shoes. But apparently I nailed it that day.
As my mother used to say, don’t play in the street! That yellow sweater is really wonderful on Anke, I’m only sorry that someone didn’t try out the yellow bucket bag I see hanging in a couple of the pictures. I long to go back to the Netherlands, and visit Haarlem this time around.
The government should pay me for attracting all these people to our country haha. Actually, Amsterdam is having a problem with the amount of tourists visiting that city. But as far as I am concerned you are welcome. The yellow bucket bag? Hmm I am not too keen on bucket bags. I have one and can never find anything in it.
Wahhh this is such a great post!
Firstly I adore Sabines tracky daks so so much! Next absolutely killer flats Greetje, totally my style, yep want those too 😉
But I do think the best by far is the last minute sparkle jumper. Good catch girls! My word you lot know how to have a good time, don’t you? xx
Oh Anke’s yellow sweater you mean with “the last minute sparkle jumper”. Had to look through the post to see what you meant. And yes, we “do” this very, very well haha. That is why our Whatsapp group is called Shopping Saturday.
The flat pointy shoes.. you know EIJK by now and they ship internationally. (I am such an enabler 😘.)
I almost felt as if I were shopping with the three of you fun ladies. Thanks for this wonderfully put together post. Love the coveralls!!! Especially after you styled them so perfectly.
The best part, along with your amazing sunnies and smile is the joy of your shared friendship.
Yes, friends, shopping and laughing, it is the best combination. As for the overall.. I didn’t style them. Sabine did, with a teeny bit of help from me.
Love your Anna Wintour glasses and your top. Anke’s jumpsuit and espradilles are just perfect. Looks like another fun shopping spree with the girls. Unfortunately a lot of the other pictures don’t open.
Greetje, I may just have to be patient, the pictures have now all opened. Took me 5 minutes, perhaps it is just the bad SA internet connection.
At least they opened. That is better than last time. Cannot make them less heavy than this. Thanks again for the warning.
Had those espadrilles on myself today. Hmmm … feeling the knee again. My physiotherapist had warned me about that: as soon as your knee starts feeling better you are going to overdo it.. He was right.
Anyway, yes it was a fun shopping day.
You guys always have the best time, and I’m so glad to see that you enjoy shopping with others. I always hate it when I read that you shouldn’t shop with friends because they talk you into things you wouldn’t normally buy. Yet to me, that’s the best part of shopping with friends. Otherwise we buy the same things over and over!!
Just like maybe you wouldn’t have bought those shoes otherwise???

Indeed Jodie, I wore those espadrilles myself today and they are perfect. Of course not for too long as the knee isn’t really completely better, but progress is made.
I have to say that shopping with Anke and Sabine is easy as we have similar taste and we know what suits the other. So no bad buys with them.
I love Sabine’s blue ring, really suits her. And it looks like she has royal taste– it reminded me of the aquamarine ring Prince Harry gave Meghan Markle, it was Princess Di’s — https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/a20760263/meghan-markle-princes-diana-aqua-ring-royal-wedding/
Indeed a beautiful ring. I see why it reminds you of Lady Di’s (and Meghan’s) ring. I actually like Sabine’s even more because the setting is so modern and unusual.

What a fun day you had, you all looked lovely and I really liked what you were wearing ( my sort of outfit !!!) You have such a great figure and I am jealous of you …..those jeans looked fabulous…go girl !!!
I do wear flats, though need a bit arch support, those shoes you had on looked interesting and a shape I have never tried. I might do a bit research as I tend to wear quite boring shoes and boots, though get a bit more adventurous with sandals. I have noticed that your footwear always makes a statement and perhaps the style of the shoes you were wearing might be a step in the right direction for me to try ( sorry for the pun !)
I have aninverted triangle body shape (broad shoulders, small hips) with reasonably big boobs and a bit of a belly. But I have become more and more clever in emphasizing my strengths (legs) and downplaying my less loved parts.
As for pun, intented or not, I love it.
Shoes… always a little difficult. My mother used to be flabbergasted by my choices of shoes: very old-fashioned, boring granny shoes. I was very unadventurous and it is still an area in which I virtually pinch my nose, close my eyes and jump. Like these black flat shoes.. I thought they were not nice at all when I first saw them, but they still attracted me. It highly depends on what sort of trouser style and length you match them with, whether they look good or not. Well, in my eyes.
Everyone and everything looks wonderful! Love the red pants and that jumpsuit!!! Want one and the yellow leaf sweater and the white one too. And you look marvelous.
You will have to go to Heemstede I am afraid. Better ring first to see whether they still have the stuff you want in your size.

A fun day.
