Black and white blazer with baggy jeansNot a laughing face for a change. Ninety-five percent of the time I am smiling when a blog photo is taken. My normal expression is “a resting bitch face”. This photo above is not even the worst I can look.

I was wearing a black and white blazer with baggy jeans. You have seen this blazer before in this post and as second outfit in this post with blue/purple trousers. As the blazer is quite formal, I decided to wear it with jeans this time.

Below: I met my friend Aafke in the old town of Amersfoort, chosen as Europe’s prettiest town. This particular day it was grey, rainy and dark…sigh. It could have been so nice.

Below: When I looked in the mirror that morning and saw myself like this, I couldn’t help but saying to the mirror “Gosh woman, you don’t look half bad.” I am never that convinced or proud of my body so that was a lovely moment.

Below: We tried to take a photo of me with these buildings in the background, but the camera kept focussing on the poster face instead of mine. Which is our Crown Princess by the way.

Below: We had to wait until the rain had stopped so we did the shoot in two shifts. The second shift we went to the big church of Amersfoort.

Below: After I had sold my gold necklace because I found it to be too elegant, too old-fashioned, I bought this necklace at &Other Stories for EUR 39. More modern and at that price you can change it when the fashion changes. The earrings are from Lara Design.

Below: Ron doesn’t like the blazer, but I still think it is lovely, especially with that statement back view. I wanted the bag to look heavy duty, not delicate. This (second-hand) bronze Mulberry bag fits the bill. The white boots do have a little heel, but I can easily walk on these.

Below: Amersfoort is such a picturesque town. I will do another post in Amersfoort when the sun is out and the trees are green.

What happened in my life this week

This part of my blog post is short this time as it was a dreary week. The weather was horrible; wet, dark and windy. On Saturday my agenda was empty for 6 of the 7 days. Saturday, Sunday and Monday absolutely nothing happened; I was just sitting indoors reading and blogging etc.

On Monday one cheerful thing happened, dog Watson did a big pee at 10.45 PM, something he hasn’t done for half a year. He was traumatised last year’s Christmas day and we have no idea what caused it, but the result is that he doesn’t want to leave the house after 7 PM, sometimes not even after 5 PM. As I worry myself sick about his bladder and his kidneys, I get up at 7.15 in the morning to walk him and let him pee. We have tried everything believe me, vet and all. So Monday night was a happy event. And the happy event lasted the whole week. I am so hoping his trauma has gone, but let’s not speak too soon.

Below: How about a photo of my little vase with flowers to cheer things up? The vase was a Christmas gift from bonus daughter and her husband.

On Tuesday the lying weather apps (all 3 of them) said it was going to be dry and sunny from half past 1 to 4 o’clock. I asked Ron to do a photo shoot with me, and he reluctantly agreed. He had other plans that afternoon.

As I said, the apps were all lying. At our first destination it started drizzling after 3 minutes. Such a thing brings me to boiling point, and I uttered some pretty bad words in anger. From there on it can go two ways. Either Ron will respond to my aggression with the same aggression and we’ll get into a fight, or he comes up with a solution to calm me down. Very undeservedly, I received the latter. He said, “Why don’t we go to that restaurant on top of the car park with those big windows? Have ourselves a cappuccino and continue the shoot there?” And thus, did it come to pass. I am not (always) the sweet person some of you think I am.

Three things spoil photo shoots: 1) my hair, 2) my posture, and 3) the camera settings. I now have an appointment with a hair salon to get a hair piece if possible and I have an appointment for Mensendieck exercise therapy to improve my posture. The only thing left spoiling a shoot are the camera settings, but I am getting better at that.

Wednesday we had the electrician in the house for some jobs. We like the man and his employees, and they like us so we always have a an hour of banter and laughter.
In the morning Marcella (below) came for coffee, lunch and a chat. Her cardigan is soft mint green, but I couldn’t get the colour right in the photo. When she adds a scarf, it looks so good, just like Susan (Une femme d’un certain âge). Susan offers a lot of tutorials on how to do a scarf, but I just don’t seem to get it. I always look as if I have a cold.

Marcella

Thursday we saw the grandchildren which is always great. I went out for a walk with Zoë. We were both dressed in black and white, so funny.

Friday I met my friend Maurits (below). We have been friends since 1985 I think, colleagues at an advertising agency.

Maurits

The week wasn’t as dreary and empty after all.

  1. I love the jacket and of course you expect me to mention the black/white leggings and the Fluevogs you bought in Vancouver!

Sending good vibes re: Watson. It’s so distressing when our pets are going through something and we can’t help them.

    1. You know I never wore those leggings; too much. I have worn the Fluevog boots though, quite recently even.
Watson now also often has a sore leg. I think a visit to the vet is in order.

  2. The jacket is cool and looks great with the white boots. If you are not wearing colour, wearing something that catches the eye suits your personality. I’m sure people notice you (for all the right reasons) when you wear that jacket. Predicting the weather seems to be a problem all over the world, in NZ they are not able to get it right at the moment either!

    1. Thanks for the compliments Claire. I have to say, usually people notice me anyway. I don’t know whether that is a good or a bad thing. Depends on what you like I suppose. Even when I don’t speak I tend to be present, sometimes even loud (for instance because of conspicuous clothes). Some people frown upon that and others smile. It is who I am, cannot change it.

  3. I like the jeans cuffed and they are particularly fetching with the boots. I noticed that your friend Marcella had her jeans cuffed as well and they looked great. I often do that when I have jeans on with boots.

    Those church doors are incredible!

Glad to hear that your dog seems to be doing better. I hope that continues to be the case.

Weather predictions! Please! The other day I was in the car and the radio broadcaster said the day would be sunny all day. It was cloudy all day, so it was clear the person was reading from a script. Couldn’t he look out the window? How about saying that the weather report said that it would be sunny, but he was seeing clouds? Oh well. It’s good that you wound up at a restaurant to escape the drizzle.

    1. That is often said…”Why don’t you look out the window instead of looking at an app?” But you want to know what the weather is going to be like that afternoon, not at this moment. But I agree that the radio broadcaster could have done better. Perhaps he doesn’t get that freedom from his boss.
Dog Watson has a set back and is scared again to go outside after 6 o’clock. Horrible.

      1. Sorry to hear about Watson’s setback. Hopefully he will make forward progress.

        1. I doubt it, but perhaps when spring arrives and the days get longer…

  4. I love the black-and-white jacket! It’s a great outfit this week, and Amersfoort is a lovely town. My husband and I also have a code word for when we get too cranky. It is “Harper,” which is the name of one of our former prime ministers, whom we both disliked!

    1. Hah, we got another supporter of the black and white jacket.
I laughed at your code word. No idea why you disliked him as I don’t know him and Wikipedia didn’t help.
We still don’t have a code word.

  5. Great outfit, and cuffing the jeans adds a fun element. Even on a dreary day, that town looks so charming. (If you want to send some of that wet weather our way, we’ll take it!)

Glad to hear Watson has overcome his pee trauma. Don’t you wish sometimes they could talk and tell you what they’re upset about?

    1. Believe me, if I could send you our wet weather, I would, your poor LA people. At the moment it is dry and sometimes even a bit sunny. Plus near freezing. I’ll take that over rain any day.
Alas, Watson has a set back so we are back to square one. No idea what is the matter. It would help enormously if he could talk.

  6. Not half bad indeed!

    1. That is a clever comment on this two halves’ blazer haha. Thank you, you made me giggle.

  7. I do hope that Watson has recovered from his mystery complaint. I do like the jacket too!

    1. Ah…another supporter of the jacket. I think it is either hate or love.
And no, Watson had a set back and I am gently trying to get him to pee later at night.

  8. So glad that Watson is possibly on the mend! It’s so hard with pets because you can’t explain to them why they are having issues with health. All pet owners know the sadness of not being able to do more…

    Happy New year!

    1. Watson had a set back unfortunately. I am guiding him gently back to the later time to pee at night.
And I totally agree with it being hard not to understand your pet.

  9. Good Morning , Greetje, from at last, a sunny spell ☀️here on Vancouver Island! Like you, it was becoming rather dreary with rain and grey skies.
I looked back at the previous ways you wore the black/ white blazer and admit I like the more stylish ways better than the baggy jeans, but then being short, I haven’t embraced that jeans look. I too tend to look rather severe with my resting face, so while driving or out walking , I have tried to turn my mouth up a bit …not comically…but to not have that flat line so obvious on my passport ! Makes me feel a bit more positive inside as well.
Now knowing you worked in advertising makes sense to me…outgoing, creative, and with a sense of humour. Hope you have some sunny days ahead too …such a good tonic !

    1. Oh yes, the resting face on the passport…I know. Horrible, right?
According to the weather forecast, it is going to e sunny, cloudy with low temperatures and no rain. Fine by me.
And I understand that you like the blazer better in the stylish ways. It is a matter of taste and (in my case) occasion.

  10. Love your sense of humor…”resting bitch face” cracked me up. I think it pretty well describes my look a lot! Love the jacket. Hope Watson continues to improve since, if you are like me, you love him a lot and want him around for a long, happy time.

    1. You know the term ‘resting bitch face’ is even explained (well, I think) in the Cambridge Dictionary?
I heard it mentioned years ago and immediately knew what it meant.
The jacket knows lovers and haters, which is to be expected I suppose.
Watson had somewhat of a fall-back but I am getting him back on track. And yes, we love him a lot.

  11. Sorry – I’m with Ron about the jacket, but it’s your business, right?! Loved the photos of Amersfoort, and I’d like to see more.
As the possessor of a champion resting bitch face, I can empathize with yours!
    Have a good week.

    1. No biggie Anne, we all have different taste. I often wear things which are a bit (or a lot) off the charts. Funny thing is that the ones which I consider the weirdest, often score the most compliments.
From one bitch face to another, I hope you have a good week too.

  12. Love that you own your bitch face. We all have one. You are funny Greetje.

    1. Sometimes I want some reality on my blog. Which is why I also did a photo slideshow of my ‘make-over’. Not really a make-over, just photos from when I have no make-up on, wearing the wrong clothes to a full make-up and a nicer outfit. If you type in ‘make-over’ in the search box, you will find it.
And thank you for calling me funny. That is a fab compliment in my book.

  13. I love the mix of formal and casual in this week’s outfit. I think it works really well.

Amersfoort looks lovely even in the rain, so I can only imagine how beautiful it must be on a clear sunny day.

    1. Juxtapositions often work well. I have no idea why. (I learned the word ‘juxtaposition’ from fashion blogging.)
You are right, it is a beautiful town, so I will go back to it for a shoot in the spring or summer.

  14. That church is just lovely. I’m constantly inspired to come and visit all these places – must pull my finger out and organise a trip! I also love the way both you and Marcella style your jeans, rolled up with boots. I’ve just bought some black lace up boots. My husband took one look and announced they were my ‘bovver’ boots. My original intention was to wear them with skirts in the winter, but I think I need to try them with jeans too 😉

    1. Why don’t you organise a trip indeed. Try May, June, July or August. Those are the months with the most change of good weather.
Husbands can be sooo supportive, right? NOT haha. ‘Bovver’ boots…no, just lace up boots. When fashion items becomes less ‘pencil skirt and high heels’, men have difficulty to adjust.

  15. I was also taken with the church doors, wow. Do you know anything about them? Maybe I’ll have to do some research myself… You do look good, you always do. For posture, you may also wish to consider the Alexander Technique, it’s the single best thing I’ve ever done for my health. Most of us have our moments, something would be wrong if we didn’t. Love the jacket, Ron has his opinion, but it’s eye catching.

    1. Some church doors, right? Here is the Wikipedia link (in English) to tell you more about the church:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onze_Lieve_Vrouwetoren
I am writing down the Alexander Technique. Apparently in the Netherlands there are therapeuts who use this technique.
Although Ron is a good stylist, he and I aren’t always agreeing on garments. I just try and not wear something he doesn’t like when we go out together, but I will keep it if I like it.

  16. Amanda Sebestyen Avatar

so glad about your dog! And loved the beautiful modernist bronze door to the cathedral. I also laughed at your description of the interaction with your husband, really similar to things which happen here… I lose temper more often, sometimes he does too but he’s more level-headed and brings us back to normal. We’ve established a code word for when things are getting too angry — for some reason it is ‘Congleton’, a town that neither of us has even visited!

    1. Sounds like you have a similar relationship and characters haha. And your code word is so funny, I am amazed that it works.
