Yes, I have been at it again. Not going on holiday to Spain with my BVA girlfriends left me sad and needy. (I know, it is pathetic and a very first world “problem”). After having worked the Monday when I was supposed to be on holiday, I decided against working that week, took the rest of the week off and arranged several dates with friends. This day I was with Marjolein and it was a day of orange clothes.
You have seen this jacket before, recently styled with trousers of the same material, creating an orange suit. Last year I styled this jacket on green leggings with a side stripe. It is a more versatile piece than I initially thought. I will come back to the orange clothes in a minute, as I like to go through the day in chronological order.
Below: Going out to lunch. Although it seems lunching is all I am doing in my life, it is not true. Usually I am at work eating the boring sandwiches I brought with me. I tried normal sandwiches this day instead of gluten-free sandwiches or a salad. It tasted delicious but it was not a good idea.
Below: My friend Marjolein, whom you have seen many times before.
Below: The restaurant is called Jacobus Pieck, situated in the most picturesque street of Haarlem, the Warmoesstraat. This restaurant also has a courtyard, like many other restaurants I have shown you these past 6 weeks. We thought it was a bit chilly and stayed in the little conservatory, with a good view of the courtyard.
After lunch, visiting a shop called Summum Woman in the same Warmoesstraat. A Dutch brand with nice clothes. Not too cheap, not too expensive. That is… according to my spending habit, which, admittedly, is more than average.
Below: Marjolein browsing through the racks.
Below: “What do you think of this top?”
Below: Before you ask, here is a close-up of the cute shoes Marjolein was wearing.
Below: Marjolein called my attention to the trousers I am trying on here: “Wouldn’t they go nicely with that jacket you are wearing?” she said. Honestly, it had not crossed my mind. Hmmm.. they DO look good.
Below: Other side? Yes, still nice. I was carrying a blue cross-body bag, which I had just bought before we went for lunch. We passed the shop on our way to the restaurant.
Below: While Marjolein was making artistic photos (and used that angle for the above photos of me), I tried three sizes of the trousers: my regular 40 (European, which is large), a size smaller: 38, to end up with size 36. Haven’t had that size since I was 16. What can I say? This Dutch brand apparently makes clothes a bit bigger for Dutch women. Or it was just coincidence and these trousers have a lot of elasticity in them. And yes, I bought them. What do you think?
Below: This is the cute bag I bought, but unfortunately the leather on the left side folded, which totally annoys me. I went back to the shop the next day and they took it back. Bought another blue bag, but it isn’t leather. So now I am waiting to replace it for one of Nikki’s cross-body bags. In blue. Nikki is the writer of the fab blog Midlife Chic. She started selling some bags as a service to her readers who liked hers so much, but they are sold out very fast.
Below: Marjolein really wanted to stop by the vintage shop where I have bought many good things: Kat & Ko. She found a beautiful purple tote by MyWallit but hesitated as she already had a purple bag at home. Purple is her favourite colour. Sure enough I got a message from her that evening saying her own bag was really falling apart and she wanted the MyWallit after all. So I offered to cycle to the shop the next day and be at their doorstep the minute they opened. I snatched it up for her.
Below: We found this chair outside an art gallery. Photo moment. Turned out to be a tricky chair. Very lightweight which meant it tilted as soon as you got up.
Below: Our visit to this last shop was very brief. We had to return as my knee was starting to hurt. This is what I was wearing. See the blue earrings of ADOR by Ayesha again? Jeans: Denham, silk top: Bellamy Gallery, espadrilles: Dune.
Below: Close-up of the espadrilles.
Below: This is what Marjolein was wearing underneath her long blue jacket blouse.
Below: One last shot… Marjolein thought it would be a good idea if I played mannequin in the window. Of course, why not? Pulled a matching face.
Next week I will show you a dress for a change. I like dresses, however the knee is still not good enough to wear wobbly high heels. And I like my dresses with high heels. This is a tough year for (my) styling.
Greetje
you two look adorable!
We gave it our best effort. When blog photos are taken, you don’t put on your old T-shirt haha.
LOVE the patterned trousers that you bought! The DO look perfect with what you were wearing when trying them on!
The courtyard looks lovely…hope you get to enjoy it on a warmer day! (Without the wheat!)
We are enjoying an exceptionally warm spring and summer here in The Netherlands. We don’t know what’s hit us and are so grateful. Everybody is so much more outdoors. And here at the coast it is not too hot. Really good. Terrace with drinks weather.
You look beautiful in orange. The vibrant colors suits your personality. I am so glad you bought those fabulous pants . YAY ! Looks like you had another fun day shopping with friends. That is a shame about your blue reptile bag, but I know you will fix it soon by buying another new one .
Your friend captured great photos.
Sorry you are struggling with those health issues!

Yes, the knee trouble gets me down at times. But then I think of other people, suffering so much more and tell myself to snap out of it.
I get a lot of compliments when I wear that top outfit, but I learned from my fysiotherapist that the espadrilles are not the best shoes to wear with my knee. Too little support. Bummer.
I feel you, I also can’t wear espadrilles. I am getting some pain relief from a form of turmeric, called bio curcumin by Life Extension. My rheumatologist also says there is evidence for this as an anti inflammatory. Turmeric hurts my stomach , burn this formula doesn’t..it is also better absorbed.
Give it a try..

I will try anything. Thanks.
You look stunning in orange! It’s amazing how easy you pull it off to wear this hard to style color! Love the looks
Orange and me are a very good match. Bright orange that is. Pastel colours are totally wrong. We are all different. YAY.
I love the colour orange. Most people don’t realize how everyone can wear it and look good.
That photo of you being a mannequin in the window turned out amazing!
Looks like a fun day.
Shame to hear your knee is still bugging you.
Those fab espadrilles have a high enough heel on them for a dress. I realize that they don’t have that classic pump shape that you adore for your dresses though.
I think it is interesting that you are obsessed with creating a long lean line when you are so lean and tall already but I guess more is even better : )

Thank you for all your kind remarks. Very sweet of you.
Me being obsessed with creating a long lean line? Hmmm, I don’t really think so. I like a sleek line, but you know my boyfriend jeans by now. When I wear them with sneakers, you cannot talk about a long lean line.
I think those trousers look fabulous with that jacket and shoes! I’m sorry your knee gives you so much issues!
Ach well Nancy…. the knee hopefully will be better one day. There are worse things in this world. At least I can walk again, even if it isn’t very far. Far enough to make photos for blogposts haha.
Wow! I love your posts. The orange is W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L.
Thank you very much Dorothy. How fantastic to see this comment. Hope I can keep you entertained for a long time. New post every week on Sunday.
The orange espadrilles are perfect! Again, you manage to look fabulous in the bright colors. And Marjolein’s shoes are really fabulous, a nice mix of masculine and feminine elements!
I’m so bummed about your knee though! I hope it starts getting better soon.
Bright colours love me and I love them back. No pastels for me. Remember the green Tara Jarmon coat?
And I agree with you about Marjolein’s shoes. The minute she walked in the door, I noticed them and grabbed my camera.
I think you’ve done a wonderful job styling without heels so far this year, Greetje! If you hadn’t pointed it out, I bet most people wouldn’t notice.
Loving your orange jacket and espadrilles – such a good colour on you! I love seeing your shopping expeditions – makes me want to shop with you again!
That would be such fun Sheila. I keep seeing that face you pulled when you saw the Prada pricetag on Sylvia haha. And I did cheat with the heels. Wore some on the blog posts for 2 minutes. Just to shoot the photo and take them off again.
So much fun shopping together. One picture I like most is the one you are leaning in the door post. The orange/blue/jeans have a sunkiss effect in this picture. Till next time dear.
I like that one best as well. Ron wasn’t too happy about my new trousers. Never mind, we cannot always agree.
Hi Greetje, lovely post again, I do look forward to logging on and finding you have done a post !
I liked the orange/navy combo and again I have to say how you suit jeans ( promise I will stop saying that soon – if I remember ha ha !!!)
I have a friend who has to eat gluten free, we sometimes find it easy to find lunch places and other times the choice is so limited on the menu. At least there are more and more places that cater over here in the UK now. Wonder how we fare against other countries for this ?
Haarlem always looks a really place, I remember talking to a young Dutch girl a few years ago and I said I had been to a few countries in Europe but not her country. Anyway, she said if I ever visited The Netherlands I must go to Haarlem.
Glad you enjoyed your time off work and your shopping – you have to have extra treats on holiday !!!
Glad you agree on the extra treats haha. As far as I am concerned you don’t have to stop saying I look good in jeans (big grin). These jeans make anything and I really mean anything look good. They are getting distressed now. Although that is a very fashionable look, I want them to stay the way they are. So I have put a patch behind a rip.
Glutenfree food is in nearly every restaurant, but I don’t have to be very strict with it. I am not allergic. Only bread is not a very good idea (headache). I am trying to find out what I can eat and what I cannot.
Would love to wear high heels and dresses again (these things go together as far as I am concerned), but the knee trouble will continue for a few months I am afraid.
Love the orange color on you! I’m more into blue, like your friend!
My sympathies about your knee pain! I’m there it’s you as I’ve had one knee replaced a few months ago, and now the other one hurts . . .
Happy shopping!
Ouch… you seem to be in more knee trouble than I am. Poor you. As far as the diagnosis goes to date, I cannot be operated as it is inflammation. If it takes a year to heal, it takes a year. Not funny, but at least it will be all right. Something I am starting to doubt…
When I see anything orange, I immediately think of you and of Catherine. You both wear it so well! I love the trousers you have on here, and I ADORE the mannequin photo of you! You have such fun days 🙂 xx
What do you think? New career for when I retire? Being a live mannequin in a shop window? haha
Orange looks great on you. Hope you got the orange patterned pants. They looked fantastic!
Oh yes I got the orange patterned trousers (sorry I learned British English). Thought they were too good to leave behind.
Orange is one of those colours that I rarely buy. But I see that it’s fantastic on a tanned skin…lovely ( and comfortable ) espadrilles! Nice combination with blue.
I am a little envious of your day with friends!! 🙂
Hope your knee will be ok soon…
I wish I could to shopping with you again. But this day with Marjolein proved again that I can only walk three streets and then the knee starts hurting again. On the bright side: it is so much better than back in February.
When I did a colour test in 1995, the colour orange as a good colour for me, was the surprise of that afternoon.
I love the color orange, and I love how it looks on you! You are a worthy representative of the Netherlands! The print of the pants is cute and you are perfect. The look with jeans, as always, perfect for you. You’re my girl with jeans … LOL
I am your girl in jeans, aren’t I? haha. I will admit, although I love skirts and dresses, I am more of a jeans and trousers women. Presumably because they fit me nowadays (elastic in them) and I know what sort of shoes to wear with them. Dresses are more difficult for me. But I couldn’t live without wearing them. There is still an elegant side of me.
As Sheila mentioned, if you hadn’t mentioned that you weren’t able to wear heels for a while, I don’t think any of us would have noticed. You own a number of pairs of very stylish flats and wedges. Nice to see photos of you two chic women out on the town.
Daphne, the owner of LAB Women’s Clothing is always so glad when she sees women in the street making an effort to dress nicely. I will admit, often you want to grab somebody and do a make-over. Which is of course none of my business.
Hi Greetje. How good of you to show some orange in the middle of the world championship! I like that touch of Dutch humour. Orange is a colour that definitely suits you and I think those trousers will be a wonderful asset to your orange jacket and espadrilles. Love Marjolein’s shoes too. I often add a bit of romance in my outfits too. As for the fun part of this week blogpost: the winner is the photo of you as a mannequin. Really funny and well posed Greetje! Looking forward to seeing you in a dress next week. Love, Lieske
Hahaha, don’t for a minute think I did this on purpose, wearing orange during world championship (without us). I just love orange, that is all. And as you see, orange loves me.
When Marjolein walked through the door, her shoes were the first thing I saw.
Glad you liked my impersonation of a mannequin. I might start a new career when I retire haha.
I cannot wear heels at all, so I understand your styling problems with flat shoes! However, my condition is permanent. I sincerely hope your knee gets better soon. You do look very nice and styled in your casual outfits! You look very good in orange!
I am so scared that might happen to me as well. That in a year I will hear : “you can never walk on high heels again”. So far, the orthopedist said that I can wear high heels, even now. Seems to totally depend on the person whether you can or cannot. It doesn’t matter for the knee. Some high(er) heels are indeed quite comfortable. They have to be solid though, like block heels, nothing wobbly. But whatever shoes I wear, there is still some pain and no distance.
You in bright colors never fails to brighten my day Greetje! This orange jacket really has proven to be quite versatile! I like it with the print pants as well as the jeans. I envy your slim legs Greetje and although I like you in a dress I LOVE you in pants and jeans. You and Marjolein are so stylish you must have turned a few heads! Marjolein’s shoes are darling!! Aren’t you a great friend to go back to snap up that purse for her!!
I don’t think we have turned heads. But I wasn’t paying any attention to other people either. We were too busy talking to each other.
Going back to get her that bag, wasn’t a big deal. Just 10 minutes on the bike. That’s all. It is a small country.
I forgot to say, I love those orange pattern leggings. You should have bought them! Or did you? I also want to say you must have a very large closet! Ha Ha
I have to correct this in the text. You are the second one asking me whether I bought them. Indeed I didn’t say. Yes I bought them. Of course I did (big grin).
LOVE the patterned trousers that you bought! The DO look perfect with what you were wearing when trying them on!
